  1. Take note of the lenses used too - referring to the lens size for each shot, ie. 27 mm, 21 mm, 15 mm, etc. Lot's of info in the clips. Cheers.
  2. Sorry for the above mish mash list. It didn't cut and paste as I thought. Cheers.

  4. Check this out. Camera with lens breakdown. Cheers.
  5. Here's some more readings. Cheers. http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?300214-Canon-1DC-crop-modes-surprise! The 4K mode is quite sharp, it didn't show any aliasing and while only 8bits (too bad) it becomes a 444 signal once resampled to 1080p, which isn't bad right?
  6. Wow. Congrats to Panasonic. Keep an eye on the upcoming show in Japan for additional info on the GH4? Link below to the show. http://www.cpplus.jp/en/ Cheers
  7. Not the Oscars, but a lot of good movies being shot on the Red, such as Lone Survivor, Robocop, 300 Rise of the Empire, etc.

  9. Hi Kedbear, Proper Post Production - denoising, color correcting, color grading, texturing, etc., along with sound, editing, effects, etc. Canon log can be tricky. The 1DC needs light. Do not under expose. I'll post some footage when I have time. Shane has some good stuff: http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2013/01/camera-tests-outside-the-studio/ http://www.hurlbutvisuals.com/blog/2013/10/menus-for-cinematic-capture-on-the-canon-1dc/ Cheers.
  10. 2012 Zacuto shootout. Not sure if anyone has seen all the cameras at once. 9 cameras on screen at the same time. Change the Youtube settings to 4K. Cheers.
  11. Odie, The 1DC is actually quite an amazing camera. I've been experimenting since I first bought it. It is a tool and part of the equation for a production. The 1DC has its strengths and it has its weaknesses. By experimenting, I am able to go around a corner faster but I still do slide off the road - if that makes sense. When I think I have mastered something, I mess up. Messing up is part of learning, at least that is what I keep telling myself. I use Canon Log - amazing at times and it can suck the big one at times depending upon the situation(if I light incorrectly). Lighting properly is important. Muddy waters if lighting is too weak. The latitude, imo, is around 13 stops with Leica lenses ( I like the Leica). Depending upon the lighting, green fringing can show in the shadows especially in blonde hair (purple at times too). Again, it depends upon the lighting. One has to be careful. Under a lot of light (the camera likes to be a light pig), 1DC likes the light - it is amazing. With proper post production, it is difficult to tell the difference between actual film and the 1DC footage - again, proper post production. Also, the footage needs to be shot correctly too. I've been experimenting with lighting - from Costco led bulbs, Home Depot bulbs, Chinese led lights, grow lights, and so on. My wife thinks I'm a little nuts, but hey, she married me. With the 1DC, cranking the iso up to around 1600 is okay( in Canon Log - outside of Canon Log you can crank it up more). At first, I was scared to crank the iso as I'd think I'd lose dynamic range and get lots of noise. It's all good. You still may need to denoise depending upon the situation. The 8 bit can be a pain due to banding issues at time. So being aware is important. Handheld is a no, no - unless you have rock steady hands. Using a steady cam of some sort or a tripod plays it safe. File sizes are huge too. Overall, I like it. Cheers.
  12. And not to forget a special thanks to Andrew for hosting this site. All the best. ;)
  13. Hello everyone, I want to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. May everyone prosper in 2014. 2013 has been a very exciting year with the Magic Lantern Raw, the BlackMagic 2.5&4K, and so on. Exciting times lie ahead. Cheers.
  14. That was a lot of work these guys did. Congrats to them. Cheers.

    Windows 8.1

tehgeek, nope, I didn't do anything wrong. turned on my computer and Windows 8.1 installed. After the update, a small amount of data exists on my D hard drive. I won't debate with you as I know what happened. Websites such as Youtube and Dailymotion do not work as they should at times too. And I get an error dll when booting up, which has to do something with logitech mouse too? Damphousse, do a net search and you'll read that Windows updates haven't gone smoothly for everyone. I'm not the only one who had issues. I tried one HDD recovery program, no luck. I'll try another. I posted my experience to point out that things may not go as they should. Cheers.

    Windows 8.1

Updated to Windows 8.1 the other day. I have 2 hard drives each backed up to another hard drive (each raid 1 mirror to their own drive). Most of my data was wiped out. Advice. Backup to an external drive too. I read that the update wouldn't cause any problems. It did. Talked to Microsoft person and he said it shouldn't have happened, and blah, blah. He said to go to a data recovery company and contact them back. I didn't want to go through the grief, time and expense so good bye data. Only reminding others here , to always back up in other sources as a precaution. I thought I was safe due to my data being backed up with my 'raid 1' setup. Cheers.
  17. Great movie, imo too.  Acting, pacing, etc., well done.  It kept my interest.

  20. It'll be interesting to see how this next season turns out.  Here's some "filming secrets" used on set.  Cheers. http://thestir.cafemom.com/entertainment/151171/walking_dead_filming_secrets_condoms 'Walking Dead' Filming Secrets: Condoms Make Zombie Meals Extra Juicy (VIDEO) by Linda Sharps February 13 at 12:21 PM ||| |Email 1 Do you love nerdy behind-the-scenes info about your favorite shows? I do and I don't. Sometimes I like to perpetuate my emotionally unstable belief that the characters and their world actually exist, which is why I don't really enjoy filming trivia about Game of Thrones. (You just SHUT UP about those Northern Inuit dogs, they're DIREWOLVES.) I do, however, like hearing about what goes into making a Walking Dead episode, maybe because I totally know zombies aren't real. They aren't real. They aren't real. They aren't real. You just have to repeat this a few times when you get the urge to stockpile ammunition and MREs. Anyway, if you're interested in how the Walking Dead creators use condoms to film zombie attack scenes, or find out who made a cameo in last Sunday's episode, I've got the lowdown. How they film certain scenes: The crew uses high-grade gyroscopic camera stabilizers to create steady shots when they're shooting from a moving vehicle. This gyroscopic technology dates back to WWII when it was used on gunner sights for warships. The More You Knowâ„¢! How actors playing zombies can hit the deck without getting hurt: Most of the zombies you see that take a fall onscreen are wearing knee and elbow pads under all that fake rotting flesh, so they can dramatically drop to the ground when need be. How they get those shocking headshots: The Walking Dead shows a lot of zombies getting shot through the brain, obviously. The way these scenes are often filmed is the actor has to violently jerk his or her head at the exact moment they hear the fake gunfire go off, so FX artists can digitally add in the splurting blood afterwards. (Personally, I think this trend of CGI woundsplatter dials down the creepiness factor -- it still looks pretty fake compared to physical visual effects.) What the condoms are used for: When you see walkers tearing into a victim and blood geysering everywhere, the actors playing zombies are often biting into a condom filled with fake blood. Yum! What famous faces were camouflaged as zombies in last week's episode, The Suicide King: One was none other than co-executive producer, director and special effects make-up designer Greg Nicotero. (You may also know Mr. Nicotero's work from a rather spectacular moment involving Gus Fring in Breaking Bad.) He says he likes to put at least one "zombie cameo" in every season, and he made his own appearance as a zombie who had breached Woodbury's barricade. Also, NFL star Hines Ward was unrecognizable as a walker who attacked Rick's group after they rescued Daryl.
