  1. Still around $20K.  With Red, they could slash prices even further depending upon the market.  With the BMC 4K on the horizon, it becomes an interesting poker game.    4K is plenty of fire power for the vast majority.  4K is a lot more demanding to work with due to the file sizes.  How much resolution is enough?  Having extra dynamic range is always welcomed.  I find with the 1DC, it is plenty of firepower for my rookie purposes.  However, there is always room for improvement.  Cheers.

  2. @screenspro,  good questions.  Scarlet with 5K and if at least 14 stops (even though Red touts at least 16 stops); it would be amazing.  The BMC  is/has probably pushing Red?   I'm always thinking a company should be very aggressive with their pricing and try to secure as much of the market - leads to further accessories sales.  Once a company loses market share, it is difficult to get the customer back.   It will be interesting if Red will have a Scarlet with Dragon Sensor in its store.  It would make sense especially with the BMC 4K coming on the scene.

  3. Been looking at lights.  LED's are starting to move further on the scene.  Sylvania ultra hd bulbs exist.  Others exist too.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_CRI_LED_Lighting

CREE, manufacturer,  is pushing the quality too.http://www.cree.com/news-and-events/cree-news/press-releases/2013/january/crtrofferseries

Professional cinema led lights coming, ie.,   http://hexolux.com/cinewhite/

Even Mole Richardson is moving in the LED direction.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vllvIGTVlM&feature=player_embedded

In the next few months, it should get very interesting.

  4. Red Scarlet upgrade  (amazing times).  Old news now.  I'm not sure if anyone posted this, so don't "shoot" me if they have.

    From the Red Site.

    2 Simple Options.

#1. Trade in your Scarlet to Full Epic-X (including new black body) - $9500. After that.. you can upgrade your Epic-X to Full Epic Dragon through the normal Epic-X to Dragon process.

#2. Upgrade your Scarlet to Scarlet Dragon - $9500 ( keep your grey body ) Get all the dynamic range and new color science of the Dragon with a max framerate of 5K 60fps. Full specs to come soon.

Pre-orders begin this Thursday. Upgrades begin July.

  5. It'll be interesting if the camera comes in July.  On a marketing perspective, announce a date, as it discourages the prospective purchasers at looking else where.    If BM has a release delay, people wanting 4K/global shutter for $4K, will be disappointed.  However, the vast majority will wait it out unless another product comes with similar specs and price.  Cheers.

  6. Nothing wrong with a little compression in the work flow.  Amazing what BMC is doing!  Let's see. It cost me $13000 (for 1DC and extras).  If I buy the BMC  $4000.  1DC + BMC and then divide by 2.   $8500 for 2 cameras.  Now will Canon have a 10 bit firmware update for my ancient 1DC?  Hey, I have an expensive "photography camera" now.    Well done BMC.  Cheers.

  7. Noticed the Evil Dead's synopsis.

In the much anticipated remake of the 1981 cult-hit horror film, five twenty-something friends become holed up in a remote cabin. When they discover a Book of the Dead, they unwittingly summon up dormant demons living in the nearby woods, which possess the youngsters in succession until only one is left intact to fight for survival.

Doesn't it give too much information?  Cheers.

  8. @Bioskop

I am getting too old - new injury each day.  By the way, I play Blackops with the kids - I'm consistent - lose all the time.  Watched the entire video now by moving back a few feet (30 inch monitor and a foot away can provide too much stimulating shake for these old eyes).   Glad I don't need the diapers yet.  Cheers.

  9. Been looking at adding an external monitor.  Squinting is aging my old eyes more and more.

    Thinking of the following:

    1.  http://www.adorama.com/FPFVPRO.html

    (2 year warranty)  1024 x 600      Entire Package $350

    2.  http://www.smallhd.com/products/ac7/

7 inch $599  1 year warranty  About $700 with extras

    1280 x 800

    3.  http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Peaking-1280x800-HD-5-6-Inch-DSLR-LCD-Field-On-Camera-Video-Monitor-Kit-HDMI-BNC-/200901495545?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2ec6a98af9

$215.  5.6 inch.  (Read some good reviews and some not so good)

Need for framing and focusing.  Any thoughts?

  10. @Zach, image stabilization agree.   I haven't been able to watch the entire video due to the shakiness - although I think the video is exceptional.  These guys have put a tremendous amount of effort in the video and hats off.
