entry level dslr or mirrorless camera for video
milandirector replied to milandirector's topic in Cameras
Thank you JazzBox. Much appreciated. -
Hi guys, I used to follow EOSHD religiously, however in past year I had a lot of work and did not have any time to follow up on what's happening with new DSLR and mirrorless market. My girlfriend is just starting up with photography and videography and I want to get her for Black friday an entry level DSLR or mirrorless camera. Something on the cheaper side, but with decent video capabilities. I have no idea what's bang for back camera out there. I saw Sony has some interesting stuff, There are new Nikons and Canons, but I don't know which ones are decent for video. Something like GH4 is out of my price range for now. This would be a start up camera, until she gets her feet wet with photography and videography. If anybody can give me their opinion on what to go for please do I would appreciate. Thanks a lot!!!

Hi all, I have request from a client to shoot in 3D. Possibly a commercial and a short promo film. I never shot in 3D so I guess this is great opportunity to try it out, since I kind of have to. I just have no idea what set up i need. Is it possible to shoot with DSLR. I shoot with 5D mark 3 mainly. What cameras do you suggest to be used (something not extremely expensive to buy or rent), also what kind of mount do I need, and how is it possible to sync up the cams. Does syncing the cameras happen with some external hardware? I know that BM URSA can be synced for 3D shooting, but for now it is too expensive option. Also what lenses work best for 3D? Is it better to shoot it RAW or is it fine with codec (or on external recorder in prores)? Any help from your experiences would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much. Cheers!

Thanks a lot for your advice. If there is anyone who could help me out with shooting RAW on 5D M2. There is a lot of stuff including Andrew's guide for shooting on M3, however if anyone could help me out about M2 and RAW I would be very grateful.

Hi, I would like to get back up camera (and also a nice stills cam) and unfortunately I do to have finances for 5d mark 3, so I will go either with mark 2 or 6d. Which one is better for video, and could I try shooting RAW on either of these. I know that Magic Lantern is in very progressive stage in regards to Mark 3 but I didn't follow if there are possibilities on Mark 2 or 6D. Thanks a lot for your thoughts and comments.

Hi all, I m just starting out with anamorphic shooting. I have got Andrew's guide, but I m still little confused. I have found these two lenses on ebay - 2x Schneider Iscorama and Kowa Prominar and would like to get opinion which one should I get, and if anyone has experience with either of the lenses, could you let me know what lenses I could use with these and from what focal lenghts. I would use them with BMPCC and BMCC. Thanks.

Thank everybody for your insights. I m sorry for late replay, as I was out for couple of days on work and did not have steady access to internet. I would need camera mainly for short and feature dramatic (narrative) fillms. Not really documentaries. However most of these upcoming productions are low budget. I believe that for the price of 5dM3 I can get BMCC and BMPCC and shoot pro ress untill I m able to push the budget higher in order to support RAW workflow cost. This way I would be able to shoot with 2 cam set up which I preffer much more to single cam shoot. Down the line I would lofe to have that FF camera too, but I guess I will have to go one step at a time. Thanks again.

Thanks a lot for your replays. So is ML hack stable now? Sorry for my ignorance. I tried going through several threads on this forum, but there is an overwhelming amount of information, so it gets very confusing. Is it 2K RAW or above and what are the file types? Is it Cinema DNG, and is there a crop factor?

Hi folks, It is fun time out there for getting a new camera. I m about to shoot a short narative film, and hopefully soon a feature narative. They are boh very low budget mind you, but they are (or will be soon) a work of love nevertheless. I need to buy a new camera for these shoots (and few more, that are hopefully coming. The two cameras that I have mostly been looking in lately are BMCC mft mount and Canon 5dm3. Blackmagic has been almost a go for me (mostly because I could use my LOMO lenses with it), but since ML guys got RAW on 5D, my mind is going that way. I didn't have time to closely follow the updates on ML RAW, so I don't know if it is stable yet, and I need a stable (or as stable as possible system). I m not very good "hacker". I had so much fun with my hacked GH2, but it gave me troubles on two paid gigs (probably my fault), but than I decided to sell it and go with something more stable. Tha's why BMCC seems like a great bang for buck, but overlooking some of Andrew's posts and forum here, I m really getting bouth on the whole 5dm3 ML RAW thing. Any thoughts would be apreciated. I guess the price of the cameras are similar, considering all the add ons needed for both of them - BMCC is probably little cheaper, but considerably. Thanks for any insights. Cheers!

Blackmagic Cinema Camera goes anamorphic with the Isco CentaVision 2x
milandirector replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
First of all amazing footage Andrew!!! Second is this anamorphic lens the same as Iscorama Isco 2x Anamorphic lens that you can find on ebay, and what other lenses except Helios could you mount on it? For Example could it work with Contax Yashica 85mm, or any 35mm like Rokinon (or any other lens for that matter)? Also would you suggest LOMO Anamorphic lens to go together with LOMO 35mm and possibly 24mm? Thanks a lot!! -
Thanks a lot Andrew for your response. It will probably save me a lot of money. The only Nikon glass I have is 50mm 1.8 and I m not sure if it is a G mount, so I'll wait for the EF to MFT Speed Booster and buy new fast 50mm glass. Do you have a suggestion for a FF cinematic fast 50mm glass that does not cost an arm and a leg? For my lenses, I m using mostly Rokinin 35mm, C/Y 85mm, Sigma 24mm and my favorie LOMO 35mm and 24mm (later one has big problems with focusing)

With this recent price drop in BMCC, buying a 2.5K camera seems relevant again. Especially since it has one extra stop of dynamic range over the 4K version, and with the metabones speedbooster it actually has similar form factor regarding the DOF. And It could be a great B cam once you decide to get a 4K version (or if finances are low, get a pocket version as a B cam for 2.5K) Now my question is, would I need to buy a metoabones speedbooster for each of my lens types as I have contax yashica, Leica, Nikon, EF, etc... (which would be extremely expensive), or could I only get the EF to MFT version (once it comes out) and use the C/Y, Leica, etc... to EF adapter? Thanks a lot for your responses.

Nikon's $800 D5200 24mp body, 4:2:2 8-bit uncom. out, Anamorphics + Atomos?

Nikon D5200 frame grab - versus Panasonic GH3 - I'm surprised
milandirector replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Thanks. You mentioned similar thing with GH3. How about lens compatibility and D5200? Would the cam work with wide range of mounts (with proper adaptors) or is it limited to Nikon glass? -

milandirector replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
This is really impressive Andrew! Does the camera have clean HDMI out as it's big brothers? If it could work with Atomos Ninja 2 than this could be very interesting piece of equipment. Does it only work with Nikon lenses though? My lense mounts range from Contax Yashica FF to Nikon FF, EOS FF, Pentax K FF and LOMO OCT 18 -
What about 6D?

haha.. now I understand.. :)
