Axel Are we talking about fictional films are the right to show Hyper real violence that is just plain sick. For a ten year old watching a woman being sawn in half on TV is most likely going to have an emotional impact on many kids that age. The reason that the army mostly consists of 18 year olds is because at that age their ability to seperate fact from fiction is impaired. Thats why you get young drivers tear around the streets causing mayhem and why teenagers take risks an adult wouldnt dream of doing. Childrens minds are extremely susceptible to this stuff and they seek it out. You and I can watch a Tarrantino film and seperate out reality. Because I can do that personally I find that level of violence distasteful. However I like the old spaghetti westerns Some films can work well with hyper violence as they press home the grim reality of violence. However start seting extreme violence to trendy music and cool looks with the bad guys winning and show this to kids and have the critics call it a masterpiece then you have something I not only strongly disagree with but where kids wanted to play John Wayne now want to play Tarrantino characters. Bruce Lee was violent and a whole generation turned to karate schools and for the most part were taught a good philophosy. In SAW 5 A kid is shown how to get even in an awful graphic way that takes away any responsibility from the perp in fact the perp is now the hero with cool looks and hip style who without batting an eyelid murders on masse. I wonder how that might effect kids? Well I'll tell you from my years of experience and personal experience IN A VERY BAD WAY INDEED.

Why is Django unchained a masterpiece? If its anything like the disappointing inglourious basterds then tarantinos extreme violence and the tension build up promise of it will be as inconsequential. Tarrantinos work had shock value to pull us all up to accept extreme violence on the big screen and to accept the cool characters that go with it. For example Clint eastwood John Wayne movies we all knew were fantasy However Tarrantino movies make it real. Any society is conditioned and taught by its values for example Romans had amphitheatres Aztecs took the living heart from their victims and cannibals taught each other to eat human flesh. What is tarrantino teaching us and what effect does it have on our society? Our kids and does anyone care? I was once against censorship now to see the sick and twisted stuff that would be perfect viewing for a serial killer I am now in no doubt society needs to have censorship to protect our values and way of life. I watched SAW 5 on TV at 10pm and watched a woman being sawn in half. There will have been many kids watching that. Sorry what Tarantino does is not create masterpieces he badly uses ideas already done and adds sickening realistic violence to it in a way that glorifies and horrifies with an audience now getting used to this new level. As humans we all wonder how we would react to extreme violence and want to learn. Short of going to Iran and participating in war crimes you can now watch a tarrantino movie and get an education in how to be a sick psycho.

I have plugged in a mic with its own power but can't tell if it's working or not. The mic level adjustment stays the same if you remove the mic . The mic has a power boost to 20db, even then I see no difference on the screen power levels. Does anyone have any experience using an external mic?

Chauffeurdevan or anyone who knows :) Could you explain Wny does the BMC 2.5K have to be downsampled to 1920 x1080 What I think I understand The sensor is 2.5K and not 4K then it has to be downsampled to maintain its integrety because of bayer processing. What I want to do Use super 16mm lenses and either crop or debayer down to a resolution that means I dont need to crop. So what is the best option for maintaining highest 1920 resolution. 1) Debayer the 2.5K down to 1920 and crop that. 2) Crop the 2.5 k image to super 16mm size then debayer that to 1920 I have a feeling the answer will be 2) But how much resolution or quality hit would there be?

Canon lenses and colours are perfect for a colourful glossy look. Undoubtably why he's gone for them. Maybe thinking along the lines of Top Gun. I imagine he has a workaround for the rolling shutter like fast shutter speeds or maybe shoot in slow motion and speed up or slow down as required. Always a way round but then that's Shane's trademark.

Not even a very good troll are you?

The phrasing wasn't ambiguous at all. Telling Andrew to take it easy is a putdown because he was pointing out you didn't read his post. Now your accusing me of not saying please and thank you? So why should I be thanking you?

I don't think this was really a good test Darth?

Come on Look at the railings in the opening shot or the light strings in the second. Bricks in the third are clearly different perspectives and the nikon is further away. The Nikon is a better camera but then with the canon its like lens flares The camera can make beautiful bokeh shots.
-
Hey stop being condascending. If its your mistake you should apologise not turn it around to the other persons fault.

Yes and look at how better the nikon captures the highlights and the better dynamic range. Other shots show the 5200 has better resolution That one shot seems a little out of focus for the nikon. From this video its quite obvious the 5200 flattens the canon. Except I doubt it would do this in beauty bokeh shots. The only thing the 5d excels at and is top of the class.

Jarrett I admire what you are doing but this has already been done much better by Black Magic. I think you need to have an outboard recorder Although it would be kinda cool if you had a laptop as a centre of operations with the ability to switch from camera to camera and edit as you go but I think then you're into professional territory where money is not so much an issue. The problem with 30 foot cables is people will trip over them. They will get snagged and they will be in the way if a lighting cable lies underneath and the camerman suddenly moves Arrgh. What might take you into NEW territory is if you could design a Five camera heads 2/3 / 16mm 4/3 / S35 / Full 35 that all fit the same recorder body. The five sensors should slip cartridge like into the camera body and further along a slot for the SSD drive. This way you could have one Do all PL mount at the front Or maybe your own design mount with five different mounts for each of the formats. Or maybe just make a mount body for each sensor! I think though once you have bought the main camera the sensor accessories should be as cheap as possible. Maybe a £1000 a go. Anyway good luck I'm sure your enthusiasm will get something made regardless of anyone else!

The Nikon wins hands down. Higher resolution and more latitude. The thing is though we know the Mark 3 is inferior but with bokeh shots it has a filmic look that hasn't been beaten and that's it's strength. I hate these little DSLR's form factor with their fiddly little buttons and rubbish monitoring. Although on a budget definately good. I bet the Nikon is the worst of the lot in this regard and it's limited lens choice. However Image is king on a budget.

I need something to promote the films business plan. Not there yet with this. Thanks Sanveer! :)

These patent wars are encroaching on - WE own the physical world and trying to play God. If Sony has nicked Reds ideas fine but to lay claim to existing physics is wrong. We were the first to record RAW therefore we own it is ridiculous. RAW is a state of being that can be compressed so while you can hold the right to the codec its wrong you can hold to the right to the physics of the thing like the compression ratio or to record outside of it or anything else that is not invented but part of the physical world. To allow patents to cover that will really stop the world from progressing and is stupid..

RED Epic versus Blackmagic Cinema Camera - Part 2 - Resolution and conclusion

Andrew regarding the test in Raw was the 2.5k downsampled to 1920 x 1080 then tested? Or is this just straight 2.5k? -
RED Epic versus Blackmagic Cinema Camera - Part 2 - Resolution and conclusion
markm replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Resolution on the BMC looks great without an anti aliasing filter and maybe why they left it out. At a guess those streaks could add to a more filmic look perhaps and not so cold and clinical as an alexa? Treat it like an emulsion I reckon on the big screen the BMC will have its look The same as a film stock Zero reason I think to not use it in favour of a more expensive camera. Thanks Andrew. -

Trying out a Canon 50mm F1.2 Rangefinder lens on GH2
markm replied to Fly-Catchers's topic in Cameras
Quite well shot! To my eyes the lens didn't look to be multicoated. -
The CP2's are just modded versions of the zeiss I think. My opinion is there may be cheaper film lenses The prices are ridiculous A set of Zeiss CP2's with T stops sometimes of 2.8 or higher are riiculous and not much use on a BMC if you want shallow focus. Can a single set cover all formats? Shouldn't the glass be modified to fit the frame size it is intended for. I wouldn't want to get stuck with £17000 worth of CP2 lenses The price of a nice family car (Ridiculous) only to have better ones come along. The demand is there now as most of us are using larger sensor cameras and need lenses. Although the CP2's are very pretty and would like nice in front of customers I don't believe they are high enough above the Zeiss distagons to warrant the massive price hike. Personally I'd give them all a miss in the hope Nab might produce something much better.

Can't we calm things down here? Who cares who knows what it's what we can do as a forum that counts and all you guys bring stuff to the table. Lets stop bitching and work together.

https://vimeo.com/59311322 Test film with my Arri Zeiss 9.5mm using the GH2 in crop mode. Still quite a wide angle though. The only camera it seems is the Nikon D4 With its CX crop mode that is similar to the Super 16mm frame IE 12.52 x 07.41 mm. Of course its a lotta money for just that mode and to my eyes the image doesn't look that filmic either. Waiting for the MFT BMC is like watching grass grow. I need something NOW.
