  1. What impresses me the most about EOSHD is Andrew's transparency and accountability. The Canon XC10 and the Olympus E-M1 II are two examples where Andrew is transparent enough to change his assessment based on new information. He tells it like it is with no obligation to pay lip service to the big corporations. Not getting a GH5 sample to preview can be a good thing, as he is not pressured to heap praise where it is not warranted.
  2. How usable is the continuous autofocus? I'm looking for something more reliable than the GH4, and am considering a mushy 1080p Canon for my run and gun needs just to get Dual Pixel.

  4. Thanks for the footage Mercer! While the AF doesn't seem to be as bulletproof as Canon's Dual Pixel, it does seem like an improvement to past DFD implementations. I'm on the fence between the FZ2500 and the XC10. Does the FZ2500 have Auto ISO with exposure compensation in manual mode? It seems to be consistently absent from all Panasonic and Olympus cameras, but I was hoping that the addition of ND filters would also introduce Auto ISO.
  5. Awesome news on the LX100 added to the compatibility. I was thinking of selling mine due to the dreadful skin tones and magenta cast on lips, but this EOS Pro Color makes me think twice. Now if Andrew can add Dual Pixel AF to a Panasonic, I can officially dump my Canon gear
  6. Mercer, nice video! A couple questions: - Was this shot with auto or manual focus? How do you find the reliability of the continuous auto focus? - How is the stabilization in 4K? I found the FZ1000 to be a bit skittish and jittery, similar to the Panasonic 35-100 2.8 lens.
  7. How well does auto focus in video mode work? Prior DFD implementations were abysmal, and continuous video AF seems to be the last unaddressed weakness of the micro 4/3s system.
  8. The only feature I'm interested in is C-AF. If it can focus in video more reliably than my Sonys, then I'll likely pick one up. Otherwise, I'll get an 80D for run and gun AF.

  10. As much as I dislike Canon's practice of crippling their DSLR's, there's things like color and DPAF that prevent me from selling off my Canon gear. As Michael Corleone said in Godfather III: "Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in."
  11. Gorgeous color, but I think I prefer the 1DXII footage ever so slightly. Pound for pound though the X-T2 is unparalleled for the price.
  12. This makes the E-M1 mkII's rumored price of $2,000+ look even more outrageous. The pricing of the new m4/3 flagships need to come back to earth.
  13. This will be the tipping point for me in choosing a new m4/3 body. Panasonic's DFD isn't cutting it for me for run-and-gun scenarios, and I'll likely pass on the GH5 if it doesn't have some sort of PDAF or dual pixel for improved C-AF.
  14. Looks like the engineers STILL haven't figured out Auto ISO + Exposure Comp in manual mode video in all these new releases. GH5 maybe?
  15. As puzzling as it is to release a top spec'd A-mount camera, I commend Sony for STILL supporting a legacy mount, and rewarding long-term users with a current body. Samsung could learn a thing or two from this practice!
  16. Hopefully the LX10/15 did not eliminate the need for an LX100 successor by consolidating the LX7 and LX100 lineups. Wishlist for an LX200: - Articulated touch screen - Exposure compensation with Auto ISO in "M" mode - Improved color profiles (no magenta cast on lips), Cine-D, v-log
  17. My auto ISO wish list for Panasonic: 1) Show ISO values in auto ISO for all modes (i.e. "A", "S", "M") 2) enable exposure compensation for auto ISO in "M" mode. It seems simple enough, and is common place in Canon, Sony, Samsung, and Nikon cameras.
  18. Dean, well said with the Auto ISO behavior. It seems like ALL Panasonic cameras (LX, FZ, G, GH, GX, etc.) do not display the ISO value in Auto ISO mode. I don't think Olympus cameras do either, which makes me wonder why. For all the innovative features Panasonic and Olympus create, how hard is it to display the ISO value?
  19. Can anyone comment on the AF-C performance of the NX1 and S lenses versus Dual Pixel AF in the Canons?
  20. What focus assist tools do you use when using adapted lenses in video mode? While peaking can be accessed, the NX1/NX500 bodies do not seem to allow an enlarged/magnified view for further fine tuning. In photo mode, hitting the OK button brings up the enlarged view, but this doesn't seem to be available in video mode, unless I'm missing something.
  21. I hope Panasonic can give us Auto ISO in manual mode with Exposure Compensation. Having the ability to lock a lens like the 12-35mm at F2.8 and 1/50s while letting the camera determine the ISO with EC would be valuable to me.
  22. It is almost as if the entire industry is in collusion, and will not offer new features to dominate the market. My perfect hybrid of all the manufacturers would include: - Full frame and S35 - Sony's FE/E mount for universal lens adaptability - Sony's low light capabilities and DR - Touch screen and/or joystick for focus point selection - Panasonic's codec efficiency - Olympus's IBIS - Canon's color science and Dual Pixel AF - Canon or Nikon user interface, reliability, and battery life So far, most manufacturers offer a mix of about 3 of these items from the list. The NX1 seems to have checked most.
  23. What bothers me is that every camera system has big limitations. Canon DSLRs gives us: good color science, good reliability, good user interface, touch screens, and stunning Dual Pixel AF. The drawback is the soft details in the image. Sony is the exact opposite. As much as we chastise Canon (and rightfully so), I do miss the reliability and ease of use of my mushy 70D and 5DII.
  24. If you needed a body now, I would get an NX1. It's more of a complete package with longer battery life, good ergonomics, no overheating, great image, etc. As of today's date, the NX1 gives you a better shooting experience. Don't worry about an eco-system or an investment. Cameras are meant to be used, not collected. Sony's future system upgrade path won't fix the current flaws of the A6300 (i.e. no touchscreen, poor handling, rolling shutter, etc). You can use an NX1 until it dies after the warranty is over, and then maybe look at a A6300 successor. Sony make some really questionable design decisions, and the A6300's deal breakers are too hard to ignore.
