  CMR (makers of the Blackbird) has been doing R&D on a gyro dynamic stabilizer since at least 2007.  Granted, they aren't as big as Steadicam. 

What worries me about Panasonic is how they have omitted (or overlooked) key features for strange reasons.  No punch-in function on the AF100?  GH1 era sensor on the AF100?  2.5mm mic jack on the GH2?  No peaking on the GH3?  Really Panasonic?  I just hope they don't pull a Canon and cripple anything less than top tier. 

It's funny how the Japanese imaging leaders (Canon and Nikon) are using the American auto industry (i.e. Ford, GM) as the basis for their business models.  They are trying to sell the most products to the largest target audience while taking the least amount of risk.  If you follow EOSHD.com, the you are likely an outlier on Canon and Nikon's mass target audience list.    I paint Nikon with the same brush, as they're also out of touch.  A D300 successor is nowhere on the horizon, the D800 and D600 QC issues are your fault (not theirs), and the virtues of the V1 and D5200 were unintentional.

Bottom line: Canon, Nikon, Panasonic, etc are in the game to make money.  They will only innovate when they stop making money.

  Andrew, how is the focus ring on the 24-105?  Is there enough travel between macro and infinity to achieve accurate manual focus?  I know Bloom said the 17-55 is too tight.

The only thing preventing me from buying the EM-5 is the lack of 24p.  If this comes out in a firmware, I'm on board.

How much of an effect does the lack of image stabilization have on this camera? The Sony Action Cam includes it, so I'm wondering why GoPro chose not to.

There are no ethical implications to what a business choses to charge for its products. We live in a capitalist society where price action is governed by supply and demand. Canon's goal is to maximize profits. Demand will ultimately dictate price. As much as it sucks, Canon are under no moral obligation to provide cameras at a reasonable price for low budget filmmakers. Take a look at Apple. Margins on most of their products are significantly higher than the competition, yet the demand for them is through the roof.

Sticking with it is extremely limiting, and just another example of Sony's insistance on proprietary products. It's a legacy mount. Traditional DSLRs are at a saturation point, while the mirrorless market share is growing. I can easily see Sony placing the Alpha mount on the backburner much like Olympus and Panasonic have with the original Four Thirds mount. In terms of workflow, many of the lenses used on the FS100 will not be usable on an A99.

Regarding Auto ISO, say you want 1/50 sec and F1.8 to be constant, but want Auto ISO to vary based on changes in lighting while shooting. I didn't think it was possible to achieve this with the GH2, correct?

Is there Auto ISO in manual video mode? The GH2 doesn't have this option, which is frustrating if you want to maintain a specific aperture and shutter speed in variable conditions.

Andrew, how does the AVCHD codec in the FS100 compare to the ones in implemented in the NEX 5N and 7?

How well do the Sonys resolve detail?  Can they compare to the $700 GH2?

I'm really hoping Panasonic can implement this list, however I'm not holding my breath.  Their track record indicates that the do very small incremental updates, as evident by the numerous GF, GX, and G iterations.  I'm expecting a 5D mk III level update, but I'd love to be wrong.

Watching this reel reminds me of the sheer beauty of filmmaking.  When viewing, I forget about things like aliasing or softness, and am captivated by content

I know camcorders don't get much love, but I would love to see a reasonably priced 1" sensor camcorder with "only" 1920x1080 pixels.  The Canon HF G10 has this resolution with a 1/3" sensor, it would be nice to see what can be achieved with a full 1" sensor.

Too bad the screen doesn't flip up like the OM-D and NEX 7.  If the IQ is amazing, this may sway me from an OM-D.  I can't wait for Andrew's footage of the OM-D and 5D mk3 without the AA filter!

Could the OM-D codec be intentionally crippled in a collusion agreement between Olympus and Panasonic to protect the GH line?  Many of their products are complements to each other, and not completely direct competitors.
