the other lens next to the moller is a super rare tiny italian anamorphic from the 1960s. the silver thing is my prototype redstan hypergonar using original 1970s benoist berthiot optics.not quite iscorama but pretty goodi have 50 loose battered opticswill get maybe 15 or 20 complete lens from it.this is just a quick housing so i can test which optics need polishing and cutting and which are scrap.these will be a bit like the baby hypergonar only variable focus much sharper and usable at f2.8.the cool thing is you can break up focus into zones so you should be able to do good strong dynamic focus pulls.this is very early days but it is already better than optex and century.some of the optics had really lovely coatings but have had to remove because of faults in the glass.some are also radioactive which the lens polisher refuses to touch : ) here is the hypergonar prototype done in black. nice and small. it ain't an iscorama but it should be ffing cool E O [attachment=276:_1050447.JPG][attachment=277:_1050452.JPG]

i call all these hypergonads cos you strain your balls struggling with them no doubt these new things are fully corrected sharp but flare is not a patch on the 1970s bulky chretien ones. sankor 16f or 16c would be so much easier. no messy support needed. no massive diopters. no groin strain a lot less fiddling less money because of hassle factor less use. just sayin or you could hunt for a tiny thing

the digital bolex guys are at least up front. hello we need money to start,test and finish a camera project do you want to join us. fine you say yes or you say no. bm are a known brand they should not be using funds raised to finish off a product. it is wrong if you do not mention that in pre order. i have heard of 2 people now that have been told october if it is a 2 week delay so what. better not to be specific methinks. this has an impact on reputation. having no test cameras and 0 independent guys using it cold creates doubt and is kind of unique in this day and age. if as was stated tweaks are constant a tweak is a tweak give it to some people with the usual statement this is a prototype. if it was a question of paperwork why not release 5 cameras so some where at least shipped on the stated date then a promise would not have been broken. if 500 are shipped in 9 days then it will not be an issue. and in theory users should have a nice camera who's sensor should not melt or suffer from coronal mass implosion followed by explosion : )

vidatlantic clamp is part of an extension tube 4 dollar china job. so yes it's real top quality : ) save you money and use gaffa tape or a coke can with bolts and tape it will be just as strong

i have a rubber ducky. it shoots up to the surface when you put him deep under water. he squeaks and quacks he floats and sales the bubble bath sea and makes me smile. i could get a new improved up and coming delayed super duck but my rubber ducky does a fine job and i know he exists cos when i press his belly he goes quack. he ain't know pool shark he is a nice old duck and he is hear now.

old canon fd lens are superb. even the late 1980s ones are good. eyemo film crash cameras used on many movies in the 80s and 90s used canon fd. the sandwich i am not sure as it is in a plastic bag because of the smell i do not want to check. so how about a sandwich surprise

forget it the bolex is a piece of crap.. i am looking for spare bolex moller parts i will trade you a cheese sandwich and a nice soft optex proper anamorphic : ) if you want to keep it for sentimental reasons start with the cheapest helios you can find the moller works well with most stuff being so small. yashica,minolta,pentax any of the older stuff. earlier coatings some of the goodies are in m/42 screw size. gh2 up to 7d will be best use giving you a bigger range of taking lens options. even plastic canon and nikon will look ok with that lens it is a bit of a whore it mates with anything but as i said a lot of trouble the soft optex i have is much easier to use : )

Super 16 Inc (New York) - Bernie O'Doherty bernie o is the man. bernie has had a really superb reputation for donkeys years. come on he worked on the best bond film ever ohmss lovely cinematography using early generation panavision anamorphics.

rollei was a great and quirky company and made some superb stuff. very odd relationship with zeiss i assume zeiss had money in them at one stage because rollei used a lot of zeiss patent stuff. the 35mm lens some where made in germany some singapore and others by mamiya japan. my favorite is the 85mm made in germany when you buy into something like the helios you really are making a connection with movie history even though it was made for a rough old russian stills camera. from charlie chaplin,to orson welles to coppola. cooke lens baltar lens. chaplin used cookes,citizen kane was cooke and astro berlin the godfather was bausch and lomb baltar. as we know bausch and lomb had the early cinemascope making gig. the japanese and germans tended to tweak where the russians knew they had something good and if it's not broke kind of thing. japan in the 50s and 60s was on a mission to best everyone. so they took the recipes and improved them. 20 us dollars or less should get you a helios.

that is the beauty of the iscorama matching it with a sharp taking lens or a vintage softer optic. a lot of this early generation anamorphic stuff had vintage cooke and baltar taking lens. not super sharp by todays standards. in a sense the helios 44 is a poor mans version of a vintage cooke a nice optical match. your zeiss are little slick and have very nice coatings a little modern for my tastes. rollei zeiss are a good range of lens to have though. a set of lens for the price of 1 cooke speed panchro

panavision have always used superb optical designers. a lot of the panavision magic in the last 30 years has come out of canada. the stunning leica noct lens all have canadian military heritage.. elcan a military company with super close ties to Ernst Lietz Canada and a discreet connection with panavision. the cool lee marvin clip above is a very early generation panavision lens at f4 the iscorama will be much sharper with a zeiss or leica taking lens. panavision lens of the last 20 years are state of the art. what a company like panavision does is make a perfect matched cylindrical optic for every taking lens and house it in a lovely sleek industrial level dual focus tube. the replacement costs of these lens is not some film industry inflated joke it is real. ultimate hand made bespoke optics. Tak miyagishima was really the lovely brains behind a lot of the greatness of the panavision system driven forward by Robert Gottschalk the original talented owner and a great optical man himself. tak even made a custom 450mm 1.25x lens for david lean and freddie young for 1 shot the mirage scene [media]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jj8nz59W6IQ[/media]

no companies have them plenty of owners in the states. put an add up here on dvx and vimeo anamorphic group.. i am sure you will find a taker if you offer 400-500 dollars for rental. they will probably have close up lens as well

why do people always buy new. buy old get a few adapters. do a little test buy the cheapest lens you can. start with some M/42 screw helios 44 a poor mans movie lens the cheaper the better $2 -25 usd. 58mm focal length slightly soft wide open but a classic optical recipe cool vintage coatings as well

rent an iscorama have an easy life. forget lomo..f5.6-8 using hawks will destroy your budget. iscorama a few close up diopters..a couple of taking lens and your done. so much bull shit talked. this film here 70% of it was shot with a 40mm panavision c anamorphic the film is a masterpiece. 1000 people with 50 lens would not do better. great director,actor and dp. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WA3eytp8kiU

if this thing is rugged and survives a little crew abuse. methinks some companies will be cursing it. praying willing a sensor or system melt down. i hate the design but the guts are looking good. take the crap off the front put a M/43 mount on it and you have a real killer mr jannard's gonna have to buy these suckers and shut the company down before they start moving up the sensor sizes scale. at that point steam will start pumping out of big jims face.

nutin a lens is either sharp or in ain't know what i mean. your either good at love making or your rubbish once upon a time der ladies said i was pretty handy i am rubblish now cos i spent to much time with soft anamorphics. beware of this glass

no... to make a lens as good as a kowa 8z today would cost over 2000 dollars some of these lens are a bargain the question should be why is ebay so full of tired old overpriced soft anamorphic lens the iscorama new in the early 1990s in london cost £1500.isco could not make or sell that lens today for less than 4000-5000 euros. people pay top whack on ebay sometimes cos they do not want to wait and hunt for a bargain a soon as you get your anamorphic lens it needs to be tested quick and sent back if you are not able to get a sharp picture. so much anamorphotic junk around so little time before the the next big war.
