when someone says movie i think of movie. i repeat nobody is gonna make a movie motion picture with this new optic. why would you. it does not make any sense. if your making a 1000 dollar movie ok maybe. but that is not gonna be a film a movie a motion picture. that is gonna be a you tube clip. with the new cookes coming companies like hawk are gonna have to take a price reduction on rentals. if you are making a cinema movie and you have a budget you rent the real magic stuff. not the fake stuff with the name magic on it. and plus no director is gonna wanna work around that ugly broke back flare.

it is kowa 16s prominar is a designation that they used on better quality optics. very nice little lens slightly smaller than a sankor 16c or f. was a bit more expensive than the sankors in the 1970s as kowa had a better reputation.

made up histories made up it was a joke mr cine :) my histories have plenty of trutheness in dem. but anyway back to the little lens 50 optics made and sold by the wide screen centre in london in the early 1980s from old 1950s benoist berthiot stock. just because one optic appears on ebay does not mean it is a new just discovered never before seen copy. i have a baby hypergonar it has been sold 3 times on ebay in the last 15 months not 3 new lens but one sold by 3 different people. 3 or 4 guys passing these around maybe this french guy has new old stock maybe his dad worked in the factory and nicked some maybe he found a box of them in henri chretiens loft in the south of france. my guess is he got um cheap local or on the internet and is flipping them for a profit. but maybe you know best cineman as your name suggests your a 8mm and super 8 specialist

good stuff erik best slr footage by a long margin. you have a nice set up and look going on here. my only neg is i have an inkling that shooting with a cooke or an old leica spherical lens might of given you even nicer footage with some focus pulls.

Here is an unfair side-by-side test, but it just goes to show how good of an image the SLR Magic Anamorphot makes. yes a little unfair nippon scope should be sharper. since it has 4 cylindrical optics rather than 2 or maybe 3 of the newbie slr lens.. bernie o does the best servicing on vintage and new amanorphics. heck he can even clean the dust out of your free slr magic anumbmorfick his regreasing and allignment is top draw and should allow you to shoot sharper pictures. http://www.super16inc.com/

nahua sorry i was not having a go at you at all. this was directed at others who have been making out that this optic is the second coming it is not. i believe eye patch said that this new optic is better than anything on ebay now. what utter crap. i still stand by the theory that this is a better quality century with some small amount of astigmatic movement. good for them great for you i can be accused of sour grapes but the comments sections of many of the tests are interesting. not by what is said but by the lack of comments. burnet roads says the panasonic is now only worth 100 dollars or less. my question is . if that is so. is the slr magic worth 500 dollars more than the 100 dollar panasonic i do not see it myself. it is more flexible and seems to be sharper mainly based on getting the 2 optics closer together. if it does have thick cemented doublets inside why stop down at all? my tuppence worth tis all no diss inteneded for you. panasonic have been involved in optics a long time even took on folks from yashica contax zeiss had a long relatship with leica. that anamorphic was the best of a motley crew including optex century. no doubt century optex will collapse but the panasonic will never be worth a 100 bucks.

if you are desperate and want a quality original over china copy i will have some more achromatic close up lens in 2 weeks. +1 doublet 82mm +0.25 doublet 82mm +1 is older more classic design single coated slight yellow tint match iscorama well as it is classical recipe it is heavy ish. the + 0.25 the glass has been made super thin to cut down on weight. both have been designed to offer achromatic correction covering 5d size sensor. end of feb i will also have some +0.65 76mm new doublets new original designs price alas is gonna be at least £350 sterling. each batch is only 8 pieces

protection one skylight or uv all be good. the 2 best in germany was b&w and heliopan b&w got taken over by schneider and are not now as good now. heliopan one of the few still using proper schott optical glass. you are not gonna get oil into an iscorama as the 2 parts are sealed the biggest issue is impact seperation from knocks and stress on the bent glass. if anyone ever rents these lens out even to friends make sure it is insured as quick hit says that dessicant sachet moisture absorber stuff is great. as i mentioned before for lens cleaning calotherm cloth and caloclear spray is the best product around used by many optical houses and rebranded with a different logo.

some of the real ebay lens go round and around. people buy them something is not workin then they sell it on. you see if the seller was honest it has a financial impact on his sale price. even if you can use other lens the fact is an iris issue a miss allignment impact lens seperation dryed up focus all should impact the price based on an honest listing. if the seller was an idiot and you got the optic for 600 dollars be happy if he was serious and you payed top dollar min refund of 300 us dollars if you payed top top price. just because you may not use the original taking optic is not important these are rare ish optics more often than not taking lens go missing in theory a complete system should be worth more than half a system. the seller should pay the full price of a bernie o service i got given neg feedback cos i charged someone once 2 dollars 2 much on a ebay shipping. value should be in a complete serviced unit regardless of the fact you may not like or use the back taking section. do not hack the back section get it repaired and stick it in a draw safe you do not need to use it.

all the moller needs is someone with a cinemascopic eye : ) lovely shots from a 1950s home movie lens that is sharper than many hollywood 1960s lens. great stuff.

tommy oshima on flikr and his old style leica noct is all one needs to see. the noct is a legend by a great optical german man who lived in ontario canada. the old models well kept are lovely the new versions i am sure are outstanding. the build quality always supreme.
