scanning to a film print is nice. the smoothing of noise in the shadows or in general gives it a more organic look because of a scan. projection in theaters with general dust observed from the beam also helps any source. better than a display of course. however you can't do much about horrid digital banding from skies unless you have a specialist fixing it in post.

again an opened hardware comparison of both models would justify Canon's pricing. whatever add-ons or added controller (chipset) you see on the new board of the 1DC saves Canon from any political gossip. such as a different cooling design for example. these supposed justifications for 4K stability or coding comes manufactured from Canon. if the 1DX is probably short of some new parts (because it's older) then would you invest in 6k just to hardware modify it and risk Canon's warranty? where's Canon's disclaimer about this? hoax bluff

are there are any websites like Nikonrumors.com where they disassemble new (Canon) cameras and show the insides and go deep with the technology? if WE really wanted to find out any rumor fallacy about hardware then maybe Andrew can organize some crew/site to open them up side by side and see board differentials etc... find a sponsor to invest in these two comparison purchases in exchange for some monthly adverts... B) if the hardware is different like that Canon rep had mentioned from Andrew's previous article then I could see why Canon would be worried for anyone tampering with their firmwares. I can just see someone damaging a 1DX with a hack tamper and then trying to send it back for warranty. who knows...interesting

if they're worried that it can get hacked then that's some funny and sad politics. It's hard to believe that Canon would be worried that "videographers" would beat pro photographers in sales? Maybe they're worried that attempted hacks make the warranty agreements a lot more complicated? what's a the 1D X for then? A RAW still frame from any premier camera is processed differently than a video stream or capture. they shouldn't be worried about this...if this rumor is true to begin with...

I've never really bothered with 8's new view, and in every Windows I set the appearance for performance. However, having early generations of iPad's and an Android tablet I'd like a run with 8 on a tablet as I would make more sense out of it vs. a mouse. However apps are more important than interface.

with Win 8 heavyweight apps underway I think iOS and Android can have some serious competition. Wireless live feed yes please! would love to rock a full 1080p live feed from this if possible.

maybe general space missions such as the last crew going into space such as Expedition 34 on Nov. 18, 2012 and ends March 15, 2013. -''This next expedition aboard the International Space Station will be exciting, as astronauts work with new experiments. These include the Facility for Absorption and Surface Tension (FASTER) investigation, provided by the European Space Agency, which will study how surfactants (surface acting agents that reduce the surface tension of water, such as soap) are affected by microgravity. Additionally, a Canadian Space Agency investigation called Microflow1 will be the first demonstration in space of a miniaturized flow cytometer that will allow doctors and scientists to quantify molecules and cells in blood.'' In the last 20 years there have been scientific programs for IMAX. its a market. forget about uprez or general blowup in projection quality because that wasn't the priority since its introduction, or forget about today's digital standards compared to the introduction of IMAX. the fact is that IMAX has been around to fulfill a huge scale of projection that supposedly makes the viewer ''there.'' there are many planetariums in major cities with unique demonstrations that are not conformed to generalized 2D screening. moreso morphed or bent to simulate space. back to IMAX, I would definitely pay $15 bucks for an hour program on IMAX to see new Astronauts working\ and using these NASA-Panavision cams for POV. compared to 20 years ago we can all agree that IMAX has leaped in the 3D market! seems like Astronauts are underrated... I guess the moon landing theories are the only things to consider when giving astronauts credit... jokesters would probably favor a Dark Knight flick in IMAX in the style of Idiocracy rather than watching real popular science. -

sattelite beam transmitters and receivers are underway with amplification at a whole new level, explained by Michio Kaku. I didn't mean the beams were specifically for Mars, but a new leap forward in broadcast transmissions. with realtime HD quality transmissions from line-of-sight regions in Space its like national geographic. I'm willing to bet in the future there will be privatized network tv channels showing 24/7 things happening in Space. btw the Mars rover landing was ridiculously amazing. -

the prototype uses C-Mount lenses. why introduce or insinuate that? if it's NASA then I would assume they asked Panavision for aesthetic image consultation for the best high resolutions in space, with a possible market for IMAX productions since many IMAX flicks are somewhat space or national geographic style. NASA's world deal with sensors that candle cosmic rays, and different than commercial sensors. I would like to read a full and aethentic article as to why NASA is even mentioned. I also read somewhere that NASA is setting up laser beam transmission receivers and transmitters so that they can broadcast in almost realtime back to Earth. that way we can see Mars rover footage in amazing IMAX or things in almost realtime! -
why not just buy a Scarlet then?

I've been using Vegas since ver.8 I get NFR's from Sony so it's practical for comparisons. I do like Vegas' surround sound mixing as I also come from a music production background, but one thing is for sure is that Vegas continues to freeze on very unique tasks. I think before version 11 I could easily render 32-bit prints without any freezing. Usually my transcoding of AVCHD 2.0 spec gets printing AVI uncompressed in 8-bit. With the new transcode I work within a 32-bit work area. I have about 8TB workspace so uncompressed workflow isn't a problem. However, I'm a Premiere guy, and Adobe's titles have a way better dither than Vegas. Sony's titles are nasty. As someone mentioned editing sequences in Premiere is sweet. And Adobe handles plugins like a champ.

look at the Alexa industry in Türkiye. Compare the grading to American products. Grading specialists are underrated. With all this in mind how will the BMCC make a difference. Most DOPs here in Türkiye prefer Alexa anyways as its industry protocol. Small indie projects are a different matter but the best DOPs know better to continue working S35 sensor or RED.

well theorically these unlocking procedures for GTX cards needs to phyically be done in soldering or hardware jumping. you don't want a burnt out card because you wanted to unlock its features. Quadro's have faster RAMDAC's and are also 10-bit display ready if you want to rock a DreamColor display. Quadro cards have higher quality element as well since their tanked for pro workstation fields so they last longer. I'm telling you bro the Quadro's perform better. IF YOU plan on playing games then the convo defeats the purpose. I don't believe much or care for these paper spec theory comparisons. I've done crazy workflow experience between both cards and I know what works better. and let me add this is what I hate about general benchmarking from unrealistic workflow. doing heavy tasks in a timeline with plugins is the best way to know what kind of tech your card can handle. you board is nice though and its PCIe 3 x16. my board is maxed to 2.0 x16.
-
nice underground site. however I would have to check the unlock feature. as I said before I had a GTX 590 which has about 1000 CUDA cores performed slower than the Quadro 2000 I'm currently using. rendering is one thing, but real time effects is another. I could drop three high end plugs in Premiere CS6 and it would run smooth in real time in Full preview mode. the GTX 590 couldn't or maybe I didn't unlock these cores like in the article. if it's about unlocking restrictions then it's really interesting. skeptic to try tbh

I need to research the full spec and chipset and see how configurable these rigs can belike replacing CPU's or GPU's from the mainboards. particularly just graphics. then maybe invest to have one Linux machine in my studio just for grading such as Scratch or Resolve.

Editing raw video on a $900 Hackintosh as well as on a $5000 Mac Pro
Leang replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Windows 8 runs smooth. I haven't had one problem since upgrading from 7. I've been rocking Premiere since v5. my rig for the last year has been an i7 990x 24gb board initially running a GTX 590 (dual or single mode) and moving to Quadro cards. They are DEFINITELY better in CS territory or editing. GTX is for gaming. at least that's what nVidia markets it like on their site. if people are trying to kill two birds with one stone and assume that because it has CUDA technology it would work just fine then that's where the problem starts. and its not like nVidia is going to discourage you from buying any of their cards.. -
would be nice to have a Maximus config with CS6. Was thinking of upgrading to a K5000 vs. the 2000 I have, or buy a Tesla GPU for the 2000 I already have. Then I upgrade to a 6000 later on for cheap. Then again the K5000 has more than a 1000 cores running already.

to be a DP it is a REQUIREMENT to know how to light, and not just a shot but a SCENE. most DPs nowadays think they've got the perfect ISO for interiors and think everything is solved and no stylized lighting is required.
