Okey dokey. Adobe Camera Raw. Exposure balance, black adjustment. Filmconvert with zero grain added.

Amen. Thanks guys i appreciate your help.... I'll put up a DNG sequence when i get home. The one thing i forgot to mention was actually another issue i had. I exposed for the zebras, then i pulled down a little more to hold the highlights, but maintain some shadow detail. It was all native asa 800 too. On the bmc screen, it looked well balanced. When i pulled it in adobe camera raw, it was blown out to hell. I took off all auto exposure, sharpness, any "auto" anything i could think of. I didn't push the shadows at all actually. It's pretty misleading that the shot looks nothing like what i'd seen when i hit record. I'm coming from a gh2, 5d2, and a C100. I'm new at this camera and raw, but i still tried to expose correctly regardless and not rely on raw 12 bit 13 stops, so that's why i'm confused. This just doesn't sound, or look very good to me at all.

Hey guys, I'm wondering if anyone else has had a problem like this. I took several shots of some tree mountain overlooks the other day in broad daylight. When I brought them into AE back home, there was an awful static in all of the trees. I applied no grain or noise in post. As well, this doesn't look anything like the level of detail I've seen from everyone else's BMC footage online... I'm pretty certain I have a bad cam here. Everything looks like it was shot on 16mm in 1975. (Which might not be a bad thing.) Anyway, here is the footage with absolute minimum color correction. (Filmconvert BMCC "film" profile with Kodak Vision 5207 and NO grain.) This is also an MP4. The original DNG's look awful. Please help if this is a known issue. I'm still waiting on BMD to get back to me on this. There's even Aliasing in the water ripples on the lake shots. https://vimeo.com/72041029

On trying to understand Canon and Blackmagic's strategy on cameras...

+1 on third party affiliations. Look at the GH2.... I'm still finding videos shot with that thing using the hack that make me say, "why did I buy a BMC?" -
Biggest European dealer CVP 'in the dark' over new Blackmagic cameras
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If ever somebody had good intentions, it's Blackmagic. B&H has an arrival date in bold red: "Expected availability July 25, 2013"... <_< Though I'm sure that number could be anything from 1 to whatever... Blackmagic is doing an event that day as well however, where they'll have all the cameras, actual "footage" (4k footage anyone?), various cinematographers, etc. on display... Sounds like CVP are nipping negativity in the bud now and who can blame them. -

Signs of Spielberg's predicted "crash and burn" as Lone Ranger bombs
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Haha. I guess it's a trade off. Bad acting took over for bad dialogue... Good thing George Lucas is keeping that alive though. -

Summer blockbusters were awesome when I was growing up. Jesus, when Terminator 2 came out it was amazing and everybody was so excited to see it! That was the era of Schwarzenneger though. Bigger than life action star, breakthrough CGI, Cameron....and it was actually "good.". These days i agree, the movies just suck... Most of them anyways. Like the music industry, no one writes lyrics deep enough to give a crap about as soon as the song's over, and more often than not -where as I used to ponder and analyze the movies i saw growing up long after I saw them, these days I'm done with them on the way to the car. -
I dunno.. The media can pick anything...literally even the most obscure shit like a guy getting his mail, and make it viral, just because they can... & people will gravitate towards it because it's trendy. I really can't blame the so called "artists" these days for anything. The simple minded audience that allowed them to auto-tune their lazy asses into the lime-light really are to blame. If the public would demand more from their entertainment, we wouldn't have to suffer Ke$ha. As far as Hollywood, i'll never forgive those bastards for what they did to Die Hard. John Moore ftw.

About 3 months ago, my grandmother told me some of the tactics being tossed at women by the democratic party to be used to deter an attacker... All of these of course, are to substitute a firearm. They are as follows: 1. Tell the attacker you have a venereal disease. 2. Blow your rape whistle. 3. Defecate on yourself.. (... this is legit.) and if all else fails: 4. Vomit on the attacker, and he will let you go. Since I know not one single woman on the face of the earth who can do 3 and 4 on command, I suspect this did not go over so well with the female response. However, I'd love to see this played out... so here it is: https://vimeo.com/67751644

So, until i purchased a C100, i'd never known the love i would find in focus peaking. But raw is raw. I'll be snagging a 5D3 shortly. To my understanding, you can't playback any of the raw video normally just yet in cam? Can you use something like a Ninja 2 to do a pro res backup reference for playback of what you have...? Or will it not let you do it? It's got peaking, and a lot of other stuff too. I dunno. It references the 4:2:0 clean out crap, not the 14 bit raw stuff.. This is where i see it defeating the purpose.

Meh. Most people will never do anything but shoot random stuff close to home. Which is cool... But i agree it's just for attention. The onslaught of versus videos will be astronomical now with raw 5D's. Cats have never Looked this good, lol.

The impact of 5D Mark III raw and what does Vincent Laforet think of it?
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The slap in the face is really that they didn't think anyone would be smart enough to find out there was a raw feed coming right off the sensor. -
Neumann throws up a Hacked GH2 against the Raw 5D3. In terms of resolution, look at this.. Everything else on the other hand...well... http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=SFBc7i1Q_0w#!

None of those guys will embrace this. The only one I haven't heard from is Hurlbut and I'd imagine he'll be negative about it too... but secretly wishing this had happened around Act of Valor. It may be a hack, but these guys release versions so reliable they label them "Alpha".. and working professionals rely on them. I'm happy with my C100 - Ninja combo, but 2 months ago I had a Mark 3. These results are speaking for themselves. -
BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Canon won't step up because of this. They don't respond to pressure, they respond to Nikon. Had Nikon released a raw firmware for the D800, Canon would've given us 10 bit 4:2:2 maybe... Other than that, they seem to not give a shit.. - like a boss. It's times like these you learn to suck it up:) -

BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
That shot is still pretty relevant. You'd lose the 3 row of trees to a supernova of blown highlights if you'd exposed for the stumps on the regular 5D codec, and everything on the lower half of the screen vice versa. -

The old Red CF cards were "turbo-fied" by Lexar specifically for the Red cams weren't they? I've never used one though so I'm not sure whether you can use one in another camera. -
BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I posted this above, but you've been playing with it so you'd know. On the split screen video the cars looked like they were dropping frames every 3 seconds or so & it looked kinda choppy. Is that an issue you've seen? That's pretty much the only thing that concerns me. Because honestly... A full-frame 14 bit raw hybrid will cover a lot of shit, lol.. -
BIG NEWS - Hands on with CONTINUOUS raw recording on Canon 5D Mark III

So the only thing I've really seen that looks weird is the motion. The cars in the raw footage split screen video looked pretty choppy. Everything else looked pretty damn sweet! -

Dude trust me, I feel you. I bought one because I didn't feel like waiting on a BMC. I had sh-t I wanted to do this summer. I bought a Ninja 2 with it and everything I'm doing looks great to me, but damn... Sitting back and watching my $7k purchase become irrelevant by the month is starting to get a little hilarious. I'd be happy with 10 bit... Seriously. 1000 + colors per channel vs 256 is still a big damn difference.. I don't care if it is the right 8 bits. (Lol).. Alas, we're in the demographic of "if you know what you're doing, it doesn't matter what camera you're using!" To which I say, "Hugo was not shot on an iPhone." Hopefully Canon tosses us some change.
