So the absolutely beautifully shot oscar winner for cinematography "Hugo" just sucks goats ass huh... Lol

When i see these comments from Jim regarding Red announcements, it's 9 times out of 10 a reaction release to somebody else's product at the same time. The original plan for Scarlet was 3k for $3k.. I don't know what was going on behind the scenes, but if i had to speculate, Canon was releasing a cinema line with a huge hype...much like Sony just did.. Red, not to be outdone, had to shit or get off the pot i suppose since the Scarlet wound up competing price wise with the C300. They had a bunch of Epic sensors they say didn't make the cut for an Epic. So suddenly, it was, "3k sucks.. This is 2011... Scarlet will be 4k." Which just seemed like, "we gotta get something else out there in this price range before Canon drops. What can we do with what we have?" The cameras they have are absolutely killer... Do i think they need to drop the price of a Scarlet so low it competes with the BMC? ..of course i do!! But that's wishful bullshit.. Lol.. because the Scarlet is still one hell of a camera with a dragon update coming. I'd really, really like to see them make a camera like i was talking about above though to fill that gap... They just don't need to. A 2k camera ready to go out of the box from Red. Why not?

Adventures with the 5D Mark III and Canon 135mm F2L in Croatia
I really like the sequence of shots, color, and all the captured moments. But I f-ing hate the camera. I can't wait for you to start tearing it up with the BMC.
Amen. -
Adventures with the 5D Mark III and Canon 135mm F2L in Croatia

Lol.. That's so funny you went to Dubrovnik. I went there in the Navy in 2000.. I remember getting trashed...of course... An old town turned giant courtyard stripmall built on either side of a mountain.. With steps going between, annnnnd.. The Dr. seuss green egg i got for hangover breakfast.. That's about all i remember of it... I ordered a cheese omelet, because that looked familiar.. And was served an overeasy egg with a green tint sprinkled with parmesan cheese. Oh and, the place still looked like it had the shit shelled out of it the further out you went, lol. Beautiful video man! As always. -
While i don't think Lucas could write dialogue if his life depended on it.... ("Here...hold me like you did at the lake in Naboo."). He managed to make all of his actors look like amateurs reading a teleprompter, lol. ...and then there was that Crystal Skull movie.. Bt that was a joint effort. I like the "rogue" idea of a badass Jedi... Little rough around the edges... Smokes death sticks. Doesn't even need a light saber.. He physically just beats your ass like Swayze in Roadhouse.... Then if his buddie's come barreling down, he says, "you don't want to fight me.... You want to go home and surf porn." "You guys wanna get outta here?"
Germy1979, good one "price chess." It could turn out as price dominoes? Sony could take the charge and do something as BlackMagic has. It is appearing their ulterior agenda is becoming clear? I hope I'm wrong but this is starting to remind me of an episode of the defunct series "Lost" ... It seems company doesn't want to leave any money on the table? I'm starting to become more sold on the BMC...maybe Red will surprise?
That's where i think the term "game changer" hits home for the rest of us... There's a market for high end prices and specs like F5's, 55's, Etc.. But it sure as hell isn't as big as the market that can't afford it... I don't think a single one of us has a doubt that every camera announced is gonna be a technological break through bad ass... That's not even our concern... Okay, it's awesome.. How much is it? ......never mind. If anybody wants to change the game, look at the giant elephant in the room that cuts Raw 12bit for $3k and start at your price tag.
I'm taking a different road now till proven differently. Logic. Sony gives 4K with the FS700 but you need a specific recorder, which costs more money. The FS700's 1080p footage isn't as good as the F3. Therefore protecting the F3 market. Big f'n announcement. People are pumped. Sure the specs look great and the sheep get excited. Talk of very positive pricing. Yet no official pricing from this leading company on the debut day!!! Sony could give a very attractive price but remember they are in the business to make money. Don't fool yourselves folks. Till we see the actual pricing, I'm staying negative neutral - if that positively makes sense? Why no official pricing??? Perhaps they are gathering their intel and deciding how much they can squeeze out of the lemons? Cheers.
I get the feeling the whole pricing thing is the very reason we didn't see Red's new prices today. It's like Hatfields & McCoys, lol.. Pretty smart on Sony's end as they don't "have" to post anything but a ballpark figure, then drop it dramatically before January, depending on what a Red is running then, lol. (I still don't foresee one of these in my price range..).
thing is, no one can touch the c300 c500 for handling. they are lovely, compact, all in one units that smash out their broadcast legit signal into cf cards. own one of these and you can hire it out week in, week out when not using it yourself. it'll pay for itself. After being in close contact with the c300 a few times, briefly using one I fell in love. sony can reel out loads of higher specs than the c500 but id rather have a basic 50mbit broadcast ready, in camera 1080p from a lovely small package than have to cart around a 'wheel around' flightcase full of all the modules and hard disks for the f55.
I gotta agree with this. If somebody offered me a C300, i definitely wouldn't slap them like an angry frenchman. The media needed to use 4k on these cameras is brand exclusive and very expensive, & that's the one's that do it internally.. I can hate on Canon all day for their prices, but that's only because other manufacturers are giving me a leg to stand on... Truth is, the Cinema EOS line is f--king rad if you're not thinking about the price tag. It comes with a monitor, the way it works the sensor owns rolling shutter, Canons are friggin killer in low light, and the way they see color has always been one of my favorite things about them. You can go to Best Buy and get CF cards all day. It's ready to give you an awesome image right off the bat and i think that counts for a lot. It doesn't sound very professional at all to say you enjoy shooting on a C300 because it's "easy", but hell it is. The problem is (once again) - -things like raw for $3k on ssd's with 12 bit. -Possible $15,000 16bit cinealta camera with 4k output, cures cancer, etc. -$700 camera you can hack with a 160+ bitrate & access to every lens on Gods green earth with the right adapter. -there are more...for less.. I hate it they took a 42% hit this last year.. I don't wish ill-will on anyone, but they have to know why...

... Sorry but, wtf is up..? No prices. ....reminds me of the mytherapy shootout, lol.. Kinda making it look obvious this was all about the new Sony cameras.. It's like a game of price chess, haha! I guess they didn't think, "Soooo this is great guys!... But what if Sony "doesn't" release their prices?" .....cricket, cricket... On the other hand... What if they just, came outta nowhere like a ninja warrior & dropped a new camera.. Lol. 2k... Not built like a Transformer.. Has everything you need to make a movie outta the box.. $3k.. Isn't exclusive to just Red media.. (128gb for $x,xxx?... Sheesh.). I tell my nerd buddies that don't make movies how much a 128gb ssd from Red runs, and they shit themselves & spit out their coffee while they try to say, "what the f--k?!?!" The Red One used 320gb drives and such..

4k for $3k... Lol. Hey... If they can supply the demand with a steady flow of parts now, why the hell not.. Specs are awesome.. There are killer cinema cameras Popping up like dandelions this year, each one $15,000 or so. Red One's are going used for (no shit, i saw this) - $5,000 on up in the "Red Stuff for Sale" thread on Reduser.. (Probably had 900,000 hours on it... Or a rich DP that cheated on his wife.). Point here, is at the end of the day, it's still about the price. It's a big old world... And i guess there must be a lot more people in it that can toss out $15,000 for a cinema camera than i assumed, because nobody but Blackmagic Design seemed to care about that gap... (Kineraw maybe... Someday...). On a side note... 4k for 3k$ might turn some heads.. Aside from the fact that a $3,000 Scarlet wouldn't do anything until $5,000.. Slap!!!! Wake up.

Mathematically, somebody will simply reply that no, it can't be increased 3x it's native resolution without a significant drop in image quality.. What program would, (or could)-uprez a 1080 file to over 4000? Something like Cinnafilm?.. .......ever have a sudden moment where you go, "......i'm married with 2 kids & i have a gh2. My park video probably won't be projected at 4k." But that would be F--KING AWESOME!!
-
That would be even more embarrassing. If the 2.8k on the Alexa beats the 4k on everyone else ... :P
Agreed... I don't think they just clicked and drug the corners of the image to fit 4k in Adobe, lol... But it would be interesting to see the uprez'ing process they used... What's even funnier is, what if they did.. (Click and drag..). Had to be the reason that thing is $80,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000.00.
I'd like to see GH2 upscaled to 4k and projected!! we should do a test.....
+1 What do you think, Sedna?
Great cameras. I always guessed Sony has many advantages over the competition (it manufactures sensors, TVs, Blue Ray, LCD Screen, Tablets, etc etc, basically everything, plus Columbia Tristar Pictures). Though, maybe the F5 and F55, will eat as much into the F700 and F65 territory, a they will, into the EPICs and Alexas. I am guessing that, Arri will be out with a 4k Camera, before the end of the year (maybe they will just put some shit, into a fancy looking housing/ casing, and say its a brilliant 4k camera, with 15 bits of Dynamic Range, and can shoot 240fps @ 4k RAW, and then tell their engineers, to get going, at a war footing. :D Since none will be allowed to review the camera, none would really be able to call the bluff.)
I think they're just sticking to how awesome their Alexa is now.. Skyfall was uprez'd to 4k from arriraw. I figure that's their angle, lol.. "Shhhhiiiiiit bra!! We don't need 4k! .... Our TWO-k is still better.... Aint nobody watchin' 4k anyway!... Hugo bitchiz!"

Annnnnnd nevermind:). About 20,000 euro for F5, under 50,000 for F55: http://twitter.com/search?q=%23TheNewF Killer cameras no doubt..

http://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/show-highend/ Soooooo.... I'm on an ipad, dropping a deuce... Can't seem to find the launch details for these two other than the official website... Even though judging by the specs there, i see no "ownership" in my future, I could go to bed, But i'd rather be let down tonight:). Anybody got a link? "You can't afford it", looks much better in numbers than speculation, lol.. Game changer, hoorah. .....mortgage.
Listening and then not respecting the demands is even more ignorant than Canons sleeping beauty policy. We are getting slapped in the face and say thanks? Until now, there are more setbacks than improvements. What about the banding? They didn't get it fixed, judging from the footage available so far. Higher dynamic range? Where does this show? Let's not support this. Panasonic deserves to have a shopkeeper here. I didn't expect the GH3 to have 4:2:2 or 10-bit, but I surely expected the expert crew to test the camera with the video community's wishes in mind. Imagine: They must have seen the moire, the muddy image, and they said, okay, enough for them. It's not, Panasonic. Wake up.
This is what i'm screamin... If one person emailed them and said, "I like the GH2... But, ...sigh..... I just.... I just wish it had moire & aliasing, ya know?!" - i'd kiss his ass... I don't know why i'm seeing it in some videos, and not in others. That same clinically sterile 12-35x lens that everyone seems to be posting up may be the culprit... I didn't see it with the voigtlander lens test video, or on Genesis... (Maybe it was there, but i didn't see it like some of these videos..) - so, i'd like to say, "hey... Obviously there's work to be done on the firmware and that'll be fixed. Moire and aliasing should be the least of people's worries on the Gh3, since that was one of the main things that made the Gh2 stand out over the Mark 2." - then again, it's still a problem 4 years after the revolution... Lol Cough, D800....cough, cough, aaaachoooo- A99..
