If they was smart they would drop the C1000 down to $3 or 4k to compete with the BMCC
The C1000?.... It's not an AKG.....or a Terminator. This is mutha f--kin CANON! Just "c" it. Lol

Wonder what that one will go for. I should max bid at $20,000 just to see if somebody is rich enough to snipe my ass at the last minute, lol... My luck though, it'd be the day I was so lucky, i got an Epic X for $20,000!!!.... Annnnnnd didn't have it. Fail.

By the way. It's a forum.. Not everything posted here is supposed to be "constructive"... Sometimes people just like to talk shop, or talk shit about camera manufacturers. whether that progresses into a lucritive picture deal with Paramount is irrelevant.. So your point of view is just that... Your point of view. The buck doesn't stop there man.
-
Head over to personal view then man.... If they don't like it, believe me, it will be removed and you will be personally notified.. Then go buy a product of equal value for less and let us bitch. Then no one will have inconvenienced king tomekk's precious time with our emotional reactions. Problem solved.

The Red One mx is borderline legacy now, it's funny... I'd still love to get my hands on one as it's still a hell of a camera... Sounds like this new Sony F5 will be less and have more.. So maybe Red could have something "usable" for under 10k someday?
but I'll sitll waste 30s to read first few lines just to realize it's another whining post :P. OK, to make it equal I'll whine about whiners under every whiner's post ;)
I'll look for you.. It will be a vicious cycle of point making and sword fighting.... With an onslaught of smileys. ;)
No I actually think I'm going to get banned when Andrew wakes up ;). My post didn't target specific companies. It's a general talk about whining ;). Pretty sure, buying superior product for less and doing some camera work will be much more valuable than whining on the forum and would profit in future. I don't slap anyone in the face. Just pointing out it's pointless and waste of energy+resources+ our very own precious time... Sure you can post what you want, but whining on a public forum is just selfish. It doesn't help with anything but everyone at least have to start reading and waste time. Yeah you may say it's 30s so whatever, but then multiply it by number of whiners on the forum in all threads ;). It adds up pretty quickly even if u don't realize it. Anyway, it doesn't even matter, it's just selfish.
Then by all means, since your unselfish opinion is what really matters here.. I'll quit bitching and cure cancer. (That was sarcasm...i'll probably whine when the new Sony F comes out on the 30th too... You don't have to read it though:)
-
Epic's will probably still be $20,000... (Which is still a lot better than $50k)... The thing i wonder is where the red one will be at, or the scarlet:)

So honestly man.. Did you think you were going to condescendingly pop up a 3 page long slap in the face of every aspiring filmmaker on here and not get a response? For starters, "whining" is a form of ventilation for the majority of us here on the forums regarding the overpriced, underperforming products of companies like Canon. We loved the Mark 2. We were loyal for a Mark 3 that kicked its ass... What we got was a 5d mark 2 without moire & aliasing for $1500 more... Along with a cinema line starting at $15,000 picking up its slack. While i agree that no one has to buy their cameras, you don't have to read our ticked off rants about why we're upset that the very demographic that made Canon a filmmaking revolution, has now been priced right the hell out of the equation. And they wonder why their profits have been pounded suddenly... I personally don't practice selling something that offers less than what someone else is offering for more than what they are... But that's just me. I know that's shady. So we're a little pissed about their lack of moral fortitude and we "whine" about it in forums. So what. If you get tired of reading it, head over to another thread... Nobody is going to commit murder over an overpriced camera, but we will bitch about it and probably won't give a crap how pointless it is. If i stub my toe on a chair, not yelling "Motherf*cker!!" As loud as i can isn't going to solve anything either... But it will draw a form of release which can be healthy... And since not buying a Canon camera won't make me feel better either, i'll complain about it in a thread instead....because nobody but oil tycoons can afford the sunuvabitch. Thus, why "not" buying their product is not even an option. Sincerely, Whiner

So who here thinks with the recent price drop in Epics, and the fact that this model is skipping the "4", it's a 5k cam?

The economy's only been bad for what, since around 9/11? ...shits been hitting the fan economically for a while now. There are buttloads of people that love Canon images.. I love Canon's color renditions, but my hard earned cash is looking at things like a camera that can shoot raw for $500 cheaper than the bone they threw us with the Mark 3. Bad economy or not, $6000 for the C100 is still ridiculous for a multi-billion dollar operation to expect people to front. I don't know though... I, and most of the general population that love filmmaking, are working their asses off for their money and don't see a Canon in their future. Then there are people that do have that kind of money & aren't bitching about Canon's overpriced b.s. Bet your ass though, if I gather $6000 for a cinema camera, it'll be a Kineraw 35.. Vs a 24mbps Avchd Canon, lmao... Seriously.
-
I've said this before, but why would any camera manufacturer... (Especially one that makes a camera loaded with prioritization in its video features) - NOT put aliasing and moire as part of a basic checklist? Who in the hell wants aliasing and moire? Lol... Man i hope they fix this...
I apologize for not posting any videos with the FLAT PROFILE. I've just been travelling (for personal reasons, and not work), and haven't found any coloring/ grading software, to work with. Please give me a little time. Maybe by this weekend, i should be able to upload a footage from the profile. tc
Dude, did you ever follow up with this?

Oh that sucks man..... Well fiddlesticks on the log style.. I really hope they implement customizable PP's like Canon does.. As far as 1/40 shutter, i know on the Gh2 it makes motion look a lot more cinematic than 1/50 does.. Unless you're shooting a gun fight, lol.
-
Dear God, please shoot something at 24p, 1/40 shutter in a situation where the "high dynamic range" feature could shine... I think a lot of people are looking at the Gh3 for its possible cinematic characteristics and if it is truly a step up from the GH2 image wise... We have nothing to base that on but "Genesis", and i've seen far better on a GH2. (I know it's early firmware.) Also if you can figure out the picture styles and if there is a possibility of getting an almost "log" style PP??? (That's huge for me... It's the only thing i like about the Canons.) Just a flat, log style test at 24p, 1/40 shutter (good motion blur..) with good stabilization... Especially if you have some old glass like some Canon Fd's or Nikon AIS's. I swear i will send you a paypal donation, lol. :)
If you believe (and feel ascertained by the results) that any transcoding before grading is better, do so and trust your eyes. I have my own theory and follow it somewhat stubbornly, following my own advise. This is, any original is not getting any better if you transcode it. There are hundred thousand guys who use Premiere on a PC and take advantage of it's ability to edit with the native codec and even export directly to mpeg4. And their results are good too. With 32-bit render accuracy (that is, if you check 'maximum bit depth', of course), you can grade an image without degrading. There are, however, a few reasons why someone would want to transcode before that: â— Grading can change quite a few parameters of your original. Since grading is very much a WYSIWYG-affair and since the quality depends on the correct order of operations, you want to have an exact preview, not reduced for playback reasons. With every change, you cut off original values, the next step you perform on top of an image that's computed on-the-fly. Your hardware should really be fast enough or else a less compressed intermediate would serve you better. â— This is particularly important for compositing. Everybody reduces the preview quality in After Effects, because, while no realtime-application, waiting too long for a fluid preview is a pain in the ass. That tempts you to make judgements on a very much rounded preview, a fantasy, where keyframes are being swallowed, something you often only realize in the final output (which is rendered way faster in a less compressed format). â— I made tests with different export codecs from AME. While there is visually no difference between a high bitrate mpeg4 and ProResHQ, the latter can be encoded to considerably lower-bitrate mpeg4 in a second step. If it is true, that modern graphic cards, RAM and multicore processors make the classic intermediates obsolete for playback, it is also true, that the additional HD space for ProRes has become ridiculously cheap. These things will change as soon as more All-I-mpeg4 codecs are implemented. FCP X doesn't need ProRes either. It just improves performance and stability to a point where one has to admit: At least for mpeg4, it does need ProRes. And again, hundred thousands edit with FCP (7 or X), using ProRes, and if there was a problem with the quality, we had heard about it.
Truth be told it is a pain in the ass waiting on a solid preview. I don't run a skynet mainframe, lol. My flavor is grading a "log" style image, so i try to get it to that point. Until I get a camera that doesn't stairstep gradients from shadows to highlights the further i push it, the transcoding and 16bit option in AE has significantly reduced that. Just another option. I don't forsee myself doing it with my BMC footage once that baby arrives.
Wow. F54K. Love the form factor. Sony could have a huge winner here. If this is priced around the $10K to $15K range then they got the market. If they price too high then they compute with the other big boys and dust collects. Disrupt and secure the market especially in these economic times. Only rough numbers below: 1DC price - low $10000 (Australian website) and BH $12999. C300 - $15000 C500 - $30,000 subtract rebate Scarlet - $12000 to $15000 Epic $40000 Does Sony want to kick ass? Pricing will be the key.
It'll definitely be an F3 "upgrade".. They're keeping the F3 in the lineup though apparently.. This camera will probably be a 4k F3 though, and it'll probably be around the cost of a Scarlet. F3's a badass camera still with a Samurai and the 444 hotrod. A lot of people say it's as close to an Alexa as any other camera at that point.. ...but it's still a $10,000 camera, lol.. Go bmc.
So, that's if you're grading in AE but what if you just want to grade in Premiere? I just discovered Colorista recently and I think I like it. :-) Has anyone tried setting the sequence to "maximum bit depth"? Does anyone know if this is the same as setting a comp to 16 bit in AE? You might be able to get around the whole transcoding to a higher bit depth codec thing if that's the case. But also, I don't really understand doing that in the first place? Aren't most grading platforms 32 bit internally anyway?
On paper, numbers, specs, technicalities, etc. Your computer programs run at 32bit unless you specify 64bit or whatever.. There is an 8bit, 16bit, and 32bit floating point option in AE. I don't grade in Premiere so I can't tell you what's up there. But plus one on Colorista! I just started using the Ellipse feature in there and i love it. All i know is what i've seen by doing it the way i do vs without it and there is a difference whether the specs say otherwise or it sounds pointless because of what somebody says. The 16-235 into 5dtorgb actually produced much better results for me than just dropping it in the timeline and grading, so that's all that matters to me.
-
Not at all man. Andrew posted a thread a while back on the avchd mac gamma fix. You load your mts's in premiere and pull up fast color corrector. Adjust the incoming gamma settings to 15-235 range. The output is full range. Export it. Then i pro-res it in 5dtorgb with 4:4:4, bt.601, full range at gamma 1.8. I know it sounds silly, but if you're going to grade.. You've just brought the footage in and adjusted it to its native gamma range, then put it in a log space at prores bit rates and a 4:4:4 play area. (No it wasn't there in the first place, but grade both with, and without all that transcoding and you'll see the difference.) i think switching in AE from 8 bit to 16 bit is crucial especially in the gradients.

This poor camera hasn't impressed anybody yet, lol. Sadly i think Genesis could've been shot on a Gh2 and looked fine, if not better... It just had treatment like good lenses and good stabilization. What else have we got. Cats. Backyards. Lol.

Why does it look like another matrix movie?

Wall-E 2.. (Explosion) This time.... He's taking out the trash....
