I agree, most things are just visible in frame to frame comparision. Or with lots of movement and many many details. As far as i understood high dynamic range was reserved for still mode only?! I stick with my gh2 for the time being. I dont see anything in the up to 2000$ price range that really gives me that super improvement. It also remains to be seen for how long it will take until the gh3 is hacked and good settings are made available. Were you referring to the new gh3 emulating setting with your bitrates germy?
Yeah, the GH3 patch:) in a room with one dim ceiling fan light... Camera usually goes apesh-t when i crank the iso. It's good until about 1600 iso, then here comes the horizontal weirdness noise... It seemed to handle banding pretty well from what i could tell... But man... That gamma shift drives me crazy when you hit record.. I swear if they only fix one thing in the GH3, let it be that.
-
Yeah i loaded that Gh3 emulator patch up last night. My first thoughts are, it's fairly clean in the shadow transitions... But it's funny how much of an effect Placebo can have after trying the other 97 patches out there... Lol. I wanna try it out in the daylight & see if it offers anything better than Flowmotion.. On my latest vid, When i converted my clips in 5DtoRGB, I was getting bitrates down by the stock firmware bitrates... Which didn't look terrible, but come on... That's low. For a firmware that tops out just above 100mbps, even in a scene with a field, lots of grass, and a horizon of trees blowing in the wind i managed 68mbps at the top. Apparently they're throwing money around over there at Personal View to get a GH3 hacked. We'll see. I wanna know what's gonna be fixed on the final firmware, and what a hack would actually improve. 176mbps bitrates are cool, if I wanna blow my footage up 400% and see what they're doing... I wanna see what this "High Dynamic Range" sensor is doing differently now, or if they'll budge on the HDMI out for 4:2:2? Since they're not protecting anything at the moment, why not? This is their curren flagship. The D800 has 4:2:2, the Sony A99 has it, we won't talk about Canon... Lol.

Lol... Yeah. Better than Ze's, kinda like Super Speeds, not quite Ultra's, still not Master's.... Wait... Kinda like CP.2's... Still cost an appendage. #should be canon's.

Some are funny, some we're just fun:). This one was a test of Color Finesse grading and the Gh2 on a cloudy day: http://vimeo.com/50270960 Check out my page if you so desire:)
Heres a no budget, no time project we shot for a contest with the FS-100: https://vimeo.com/28971195 I apologize for the CG gore at the end, but our air compressor died during the shoot!
Hahaaaa! That was pretty good. "I said shut-up Gawddamnit!! I'm tryin' to watch T- (splat.)."

All of this looks great man... I'm on the fence about Anamorphic adapters. Diopters are the mystery to me actually.. I like what you've done here with both of the adapters. The 16f stuff looks fantastic, especially the boxer, and the Asian girl with the flower... I didn't pay any attention to the distortion until it was mentioned... Kind of like walking around with a piece of pepper on your tooth until someone sees you smile. The last video above with the guitarist is great also though... & i keep coming back to the 7200 it seems. Super-awesome great shots here Karim! Jeremy

Test footage from the pre-release Panasonic GH3 at Photokina
This has to be a troll post right? Alexa B-cam? for $1299? HAHAHAHA! They didn't listen to complaints? I'd say they answered most of them -DR -Build quality -Weatherproofing -codec -1080p 60 - Low light performance -headphone jack - Colour I can't see anything to complain about for $1299.
The price isn't ridiculous... I actually don't understand why everyone's complaining about "that" when everything else is a $1000 more. I've had a week to stew on my thoughts of the GH3 & honestly, even pre-production firmware aside - there's no footage out there that showcases These upgraded features! Not one shot in Genesis was longer than 2 seconds at the most & how can anybody interpret a difference at that point? I don't have the Voigtlander 25mm, so I can't say the slow-mo shot of our protagonists' silhouette running down an alley at the camera with one light behind him, (and from what i could tell - no noise) - could've been pulled off with a GH2.... Especially in 60p with a reduced codec. People want to see the "Extended Dynamic Range" sensor in action, etc. High bitrates are great... If you blow up the footage to 400%, because quite honestly, the Flowmotion patch gets down to 35mbps on certain shots, but it still outshines any 170 + driftwood patch i've used... (However Sedna was great.). -
"I’d happily pay $3000 for this [better image in the next, upcoming camera], as the GH3 already is a bargain for $1299". I would NOT. GH3 is a new camera that many are waiting for. It costs more than GH2 so it is obvious it should be more then just an improvement over previous model. And a camera is not everything. Lenses and propriety accesories makes additional costs, so if a new camera for $1299 does't generate a better image it does't have any sens. Aliasing and moiré instability of an image is passé as a chromatic aberration. A new camera have not to be affected by this image defect. Specially that GH3 is made with possible professional use in mind, wright? It doesn't make any sense to wait again and again for a newer camera, because this way we will stay with nothing always waiting.
Damn right man! -

Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's a pre production firmware yes... But this is a big ass event! Most of the indie crowd waited with their eye on this camera after the BMC to put in a pre order. The Gh2 didn't have any issues with Moire or Aliasing... Nobody even had a second thought that it would be a factor with this one, until it was. They may fix it yes, but does any camera manufacturer think anyone wants moire and aliasing in their footage? That should be part of the basic checklist. If they could do it 2 years ago, shouldn't be a problem. Second is the same old 4:2:0, 8 bit. We pretty much know that isn't going anywhere in the final product. So we're stuck with 16-235 limitations again. To me, i haven't even seen the banding issue or increased dynamic range comparisons to justify the upgrade, but if the banding is fixed within those numbers, it sounds like cheating when the information could be there to begin with. The fact that the camera was DESIGNED to handle progressive footage at higher bitrates this time, along with finally looking like a damn man's camera for a change though, is a worthy welcome. For hybrid shooters, i see this as your guy. For pure filmmakers on the other hand, the BMC may be $1700 more, but it will pistol whip these limitations, and more than likely get a 60p upgrade later. You get what you pay for... -
Exclusive - Canon confirm 1D C 4K DSLR is same hardware as the 1D X
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
But of course... Lmao. The downfall of it having 2 (non AF allocated) processors may be the pitfall Magic Lantern ran into in being unable to upgrade the 7D... Sucks too. The 1D-X is still typical Canon "retarded class" expensive, and it would be hard to find a donor to Alex & Co. probably regardless... They all had their downfalls this year seems like. Canon really broke it off in the indie guys' wallets... Now they're kinda like Charlie Sheen, lol. The GH3. Man. What exactly will they address in the firmware updates to justify the upgrade? Moire and Aliasing most likely & that's probably about it. No 4:2:2, same good ol 8 bits. -
Holy shit. That's huge.
I'm very worried about skin tones. Will we be seeing more pictures of Pocahontas, Andrew?
Bump. I too am on the fence about skin tones. I will PM a suggested list of angles.

John Brawley and Giles Livesky show a raw workflow with the BMC in Resolve 9. Granted I'm curious what kind of Nuclear fusion processor is being used to show raw dng grades in real time, this shows a little bit of the massive potential of these 2 together.. (BMC, Resolve). It sucks, because the Gh3 looks like it might be amazing at half the price. With the other $1700 from the BMC plus the $500 on SSD's, that's a couple of nice lenses, or one really nice lens, heliopan nd, z finder, etc.. All good investments. However there is a holy shit moment here at 12:05 in: https://vimeo.com/49667411 I mean, damn.

Genesis - is this the Reverie moment for the GH3?
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It's a headline man. That kind of comes with the territory.. Think, "Man brushes his teeth!" and then under it in italics, "I thought i was going to die.." Boom! Shit just got interesting...I think the whole point of the article was a $600 camera getting picked by a guy a lot of people / aspiring filmmakers respect. It wasn't my choice, i own a GH2. I thought it looked too clean. I like my sex dirty though so I probably would've went with an old prime & a little grain. That Fuji, while badass, was still a 2.8.. & that's pretty fast don't get me wrong, but i have a 2.8 and I don't reach for it in dim situations with a Gh2. So I'm sure they had to light the piss out of it. It's great...but it's still a $600 camera with 8 or 9 stops on a good day. It just got the royal treatment by a couple of guys that knew how to get the most out of it. Which was also the point of the shootout. -
We should really consider the outsourcing of camera production to another area? #Earthquakes #Tsunami's #Random Riots.
It's all about those islands the Japanese purchased from the owner of them and the Chinese who say they belong to China, but looking at the way the Chinese are behaving and their spiel from the reporters on the street, burning anything Japanese... it's all ridiculous. There is so much anger in the world today, people look for any reason to (forgive the pun) blow up, what's up with all that? Watching Pannys building on fire, could mean another delay to the GH3 then!
I couldn't agree more. People make fun of Christ here in the U.S. just about everyday... Some real estate D bag makes an underground youtube flick that nobody would probably have ever known about until they made it a global event, - and the first response is to burn a flag & kill some infidels....man....perhaps they haven't seen Southpark... And now it's spreading like a violent fad.

What the hell!? I thought forums were bad! Now there are extremists? Guess 5 year old technology finally sent them over the top... But Panasonic?.. Had to come from Personal View. Edit: Had to edit this... I really hope nobody got hurt, seriously. But why the hell has the whole world went apeshit lately? Riot motherf-ckers!?!?

If somewhere in the mix of Gh3 topics and comments, someone has already confirmed this, please forgive me. (i'm so afraid a troll will jump out of the logo above with, "G-- DAMNIT NOOB!!) Has anyone heard if it's still using 8bit, 4:2:0? @ Andrew, Thanks for the update on the picture styles! I was hoping for something along the lines of a Log type profile.. Hopefully it lets you adjust accordingly to your liking.

Canon 6D officially announced - a more compact and affordable 5D Mark III
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Lens options man.... You can mount a pair of reading glasses on the gh2 with the proper corresponding adapter. -
Stoked about 4:2:2 hdmi possibly, and a Log type PIcture style perhaps? I'm hearing no... On the other hand, I find it hilarious that the camera hasn't even been officially announced 24 hours, and there's already a cat video up.

Genesis - is this the Reverie moment for the GH3?
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I agree on the promo video. The Nikon D600 seemed to have a great concept... But it looked completely video with those high frame rates... My opinion means shit...but if you're going to shoot at "my kids soccer game" frame rates, why have uncompressed hdmi, etc.. You know the video indie demographic for this camera will most likely be shooting cinematic type material at 24, 25fps. (Typing a long rant on it makes me sound like an overbearing dick, lol... It's the only video i've seen from the D600 anyway, many more to come.) Genesis on the other hand... Okay..... So yeah, i didn't cry at the end... None of the shots were long enough to really marvel at the possibilities of what this camera may be able to do, i understand it can't be 10 minutes long, but that didn't stop Canon when the C300 came out. (mobius, max is back, etc.) I want to see a "feature" like that from a Gh camera. Come on! Act of Valor?... It held up!! Yes, he used Dark Energy, Panavision Glass, etc... But it still had the 5D2 problems everybody else had. Not to sound like a fanboy, but the Gh2 has a better image... Truth is, in the end, Shane's a Canon guy. (1D-C is one of the best images he's ever seen and it gives the Alexa a run for its money apparently.. Lol) - plus, there's the hack issue. The studio probably wouldn't have liked the idea of using a hack had they gone the Gh2 route. -
Canon 6D officially announced - a more compact and affordable 5D Mark III
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Canon confuses me. I love Cinestyle and the way canons see color.. (i know that's an oxymoron since cinestyle flattens out everything, but even grading it, i seem to get more aesthetically pleasing results) - But the GH cameras have cleaner images and more lens options. Then in order to have the shortcomings of the Canon's that the GH's automatically don't have, you need another $10,000. I guess I should just stfu about it & realize....in the end...... ........they truly were... Stills cameras. 😔 -
Genesis - is this the Reverie moment for the GH3?
Germy1979 replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
It needs a shot longer than 2 seconds to get any idea of what we're looking for, lol. Pause! Play-Pause!! Sometimes you've really gotta be on your toes! Shotgun! -
I'm guessing that's 60 seconds, not 1/60th.
Yeah.. That was probably a dumb question for a camera most people will buy to make movies with, lol. That would be like, $7000 for a video camera that shoots 8bit, 4:2:0 in Avchd, hahahaa! Wait a minute.

I wonder if the 60 shutter speed is really the lowest... No 180 shutter?
