Is there any way to get Vimeo to render and stream at 8K? Instead of downloading the 8K original? Vimeo says the video has to be HDR so I shot some HLG to test but... still downsized to 4K. This was with a Fujifilm X-H2.

While I certainly wish them success, and while LIDAR is proven technology (that even my smartphone has), the reason why this isn't used by major camera makers is probably because of its open loop nature and the calibration required, much like you have to keep both the lens and the camera in calibration for a classic rangefinder. If we had so many accuracy issues with still photography with DSLRs why would we expect any non-TTL, non-sensor based, open-looped technology to not suffer from the same.

From what I've read on reddit, the Lumix 12-35/2.8 II suffered from the same issue. So, I believe this needs to be tackled from the camera-body side.

Is there any way for GH5 to embed or record frame-by-frame metadata like aperture, focal length and distance?

XL was designed for GH4. Many users already had the XL and they bought the GH5, so you see the XL used more often. While XL accomplished its original mission and still did great with full frame lenses, GH5 had bigger coverage to begin with, having no 4k crop at all, and on top of that you need to give a little headroom for the IBIS to operate. You don't want an entire stripe of black to come up every now and then when you handhold (with XL and APS-C lens). If you don't want IBIS why didn't we stick with GH4? Everyone seems to be using the Sigma 18-35/1.8 and on GH5 an ULTRA is required. Of course XL if you use only full frame lenses.

When set to Intelligent ISO in P or A mode, it should default to Auto ISO in S and M, not ISO 200.

Would you say a camera has to be at least broadcast-ready before it would be worthy for the cinema? (Assuming we are really putting the footage on the big screen here.) Or is there no such a relationship?

Is there a standard definition of what constitutes a "cinema" camera? Would anything with a comparative large sensor (say, 1" or larger), with RAW (internal or external), or a low-compression codec suited for post (e.g. MJPEG, ProRes) count as a "cinema" camera?

Minimum shutter speed setting controls the interaction between Auto ISO and the shutter speed in P and A exposure modes. But here, when I started this thread, I was in movie M and I control both the aperture and shutter. fuzzynormal stated the shutter speed must be faster than the frame rate, but I could set frame rate to 60p and shutter speed to 1/30, which doesn't make any sense. There must have been a legitimate purpose in some specialized situation, I would imagine, and this is not a bug. However normal usage must prevent that from happening. I felt that the camera must be able to do something to prevent me from making such a user error, which I believe is easy to make - just one inadvertent touch of the shutter dial, and there goes my footage. So far setting it to ANGLE/ISO does what I want.

Bingo. Works like a charm. (If I set to 1/30 and switch to shutter angle, the shutter angle becomes 11d!!! )

Is there an option I can set so that when I am shooting 60p it locks me against setting the shutter any slower than 1/60?

This has more to do with the fact that image stabilization with Panasonic is an all-or-nothing affair. The user has no provision to choose between IBIS and OIS, it is IS ON or IS OFF and the camera figures out how to accomplish IS with whatever means. Your camera's user manual explains which IS is used in under which scenario. Metabones has its own way to give the user more control: http://metabones.com/article/of/mft-manual-image-stabilization The real GH5 support is imminent but this workaround with the existing firmware is actually the OIS+ES mode of image stabilization. (Because the other 2 modes would freeze the camera when the lens is zoomed.) To use IBIS alone with an IS lens like the EF24-105 we will need the next Metabones firmware.

A new firmware is imminent but for the time being this workaround may be useful:

I predict the A7SIII or A9 or whatever it will be called will oversample FF over 24-28MP at 4k30p finally matching what NX1 did. It will do 60p with a S35 mode doing 4k60p and FHD240p. The PDAF will work continuously in video even with non native lens. It will be a great general purpose camera. Sony would be thinking what would make the A7SII sell better? The answer is not necessarily make it break new ground but to make it less specialized for a wider audience. It will feature a great many checkbox items and great IQ in all respects but not orthogonally all the time e.g. 60p will be S35 only. I would be surprised if the camera end up having only 20MP because it will strain readout and processing to move and crunch that much data at 60p. Sony is hard to ignore the unexpected success of A7RII S35 but not repeat it.

While we are waiting for the real fix, this workaround may (or may not) be enough to get GH5 going, assuming you are currently at the latest version (2.6, 2016-12-16). There is a jog lever on most Speed Boosters. Press it inward and hold it down, and while keeping it depressed, either power on the camera (if the SB and lens has already been attached), or attach the SB or the lens (if the camera is already powered on). Do not let go until the camera has fully started up, which may take a second or so. Confirm the workaround is actually running by checking that AFC and AFF are disabled and unavailable. (You will be able to choose from only AFS and MF, if the startup is correct.) Now, you have iris control, some AF (but not AFC, continuous video AF, and AFS itself may not be accurate all the time), OIS if you have an IS lens, IBIS if you have a non-IS lens, and you would be able to zoom. This is a temporary workaround, not thoroughly tested and may have problems. Let me know if this is good enough or not. Good luck.

As it turns out, I spoke out too much too soon a couple of weeks ago. We have since then discovered and fixed more problems so now this latest update (2.5) is a must for all GX80/85 owners. Thank you for downloading and updating!

The new firmware (2.5) is out, and this is the firmware specifically crafted for GX80/85. Hopefully this addresses all the image-stabilization-related problems you might have. As I mentioned, the vast majority of EF lenses are FTM - you just turn the focus ring, and it will change distance, even without electricity. But without half-pressing, AF remains active while you are doing that, and AF/MF fights with each other. The easiest setting is to simply turn OFF 'Continuous AF' under the video menu. AF won't get activated until you half-press the shutter. Then you select an FTM lens - 35/2 IS is one of those.

The AF+MF option is under the "Gear C" tab of the menus. I just tried both a Lumix lens and a Canon 50/1.8 STM on my GX85. In both cases, you will have to keep the shutter half-pressed for manual focus to work, in video mode. This is because the camera lets you manual focus only while AF is locked. It is easy to see that if the camera keeps on autofocusing continuously and you manually intervene, AF and MF are only fighting with each other. But with AF lock, the camera temporarily pauses adjusting focus so you may adjust focus manually.

Panasonic does have an AF+MF option which if turned ON allows you to fine tune with manual focus after autofocus. There are 3 types of EF lenses. The "fly-by-wire" includes all Canon STM lenses and a handful of Canon USM, most notably the EF 85/1.2L (both I and II). With Metabones you set AF+MF on Panasonic and S-AF+MF on Olympus as you would with a genuine Micro Four Thirds lens. The legacy have the focus ring locked if AF/MF is at the AF position. But if you flick the switch to MF, nothing else stops you from turning the focusing ring and trip the shutter. The vast majority of EF lenses have full-time manual (FTM). Again, nothing stops you from turning the focusing ring and trip the shutter, regardless of camera settings, and you may do so even without flipping the AF/MF switch.

@Chris Oh - As of the current version, only the Sigma 50-100/1.8 has an IBIS issue (and pardon me for repeating that this, too, will be fixed in a matter of days). But owing to just this one lens, Andrew was compelled to downgrade to firmware 0.5 from more than 2 years ago. Back then the firmware did not manage OIS/IBIS interaction. In his tests using old firmware, both OIS and IBIS turned on and cancelled out each other. Actually if he had manually turned one of OIS/IBIS off, the old version would still have worked fine. Andrew found our firmware from 2 years ago to be unsatisfactory, which I concur (although back then we could not have anticipated the GX85). I personally would say that except for that one lens, the Sigma 50-100/1.8, the current firmware is working, and it is doing what Panasonic's own Four Thirds to Micro Four Thirds adapter (DMW-MA1) would have done. The next version, 2.5, which will be launched soon, will be great, and will have the flexibility of OIS/IBIS selection by the end-user.
