Nice complement to "TheISO100SunnyDayAtNoonButBewareShadesCamera" GH4 ;) .

Finally direct GH4 vs A7S test.. Oh! Thanks! Do you know You will get millions of clicks if you publish it? ;) Please do also DR test (extreme scene and GH4@100 , A7S@100, A7S@3200log2) and we will be happy as children..

Maybe they changed their mind? Instead of high DR @ ISO100 (like most rivals) thay did good DR @ ISO100-25000 The same with Color Sensitivity according to dxomark. So instead of 15 stops DR @ ISO100 and unusable ISO>3200 you have 13 stops DR @ ISO 100 and still nice 9-10 stops DR @ ISO 12000 (the same with color sensitivity) [GH4 perfoms like that @ ~ ISO 1200]

That's interesting. From test footages I thought it's the opposite (noise grain). Have to look closer. And what about slog2? Again, test footages looked like there is significant difference in DR..

I tried grading "Arizona falls" (higher contrast, saturation, different WB) in Resolve and it looks very nice (thought I don't have much experience in grading). On first sight the noise in shadows does not look worse than GH4 4K flat profile graded and scaled to HD - I tried Philip Bloom's Seoul panorama files. Don't have big screen to pixel peep, so maybe I'm wrong..

It is a good news. Maybe a sensor better optimized for 4K. FZ1000 is using small center crop for 4K (effectively making a sensor smaller and a lens narrower for 4K).

So it looks like A7S is not (all)low ISO king. It is high ISO king (where the difference from competition is getting big). Can someone explain to me Tonal Range and Color Sensitivity measurements and their impact on video? For example at ISO200 tonal range: A7s - 9bit GH4 - 8bit But with external recorder you have GH4 10bit compression and A7s 8bit compression. So they will have the same tonal range in the end (GH4 8bit packed in 10bit, A7s 9bit shrinked to 8bit)?

He means: getting turbo but removing last gear. Because you are increasing light from SB but project on smaller area (lower resolution). BTW: Interesting idea if you don't want 4K. The same FF lens with normal adapter vs SB + crop mode will give the same FOV but will look different (higher resolution pixel binning vs no-binning? + extra stop of light) crazy! :)

Panasonic GH4 vs Sony A7S compared - who wins the 4K battle on paper?
Jacek replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Ah.. didn't notice that he is the guy from Sony first A7S promo video.. So it's not going to be objective test :( .. -
Panasonic GH4 vs Sony A7S compared - who wins the 4K battle on paper?

It looks like this guy will make nice GH4 vs A7S comparison: https://twitter.com/DenLennie " DenLennie @DenLennie · May 26 Sony #A7s vs Panasonic #GH4 shootout edit coming together..." " DenLennie @DenLennie · May 22 rolling shutter on Sony A7s not as bad as expected with full frame sensor...did side by side with GH4 results in a few days" " DenLennie @DenLennie · May 22 Just been out comparing A7s and GH4 in low light..." -
Nah.. Full frame sensor from the Sony A7S 4K internal codec from the Panasonic GH4 2K RAW from Blackmagic Big EVF from Fuji and their lovely X-T1 5 axis in-body stabilisation from Olympus (working for video with any lens) Cine lenses by Sigma - their 35mm F1.4 and 50mm F1.4 are that good Bundled grading / editing software from Blackmagic - Resolve 11 free Blackmagic Resolve Light Ergonomic styling by Fuji

But I was talking about something else.. (*) Sorry, my mistake. I was referring to jcs (first post in this thread) and a statement that you have to use GH4 Lens: 25mm f2.8 to get similar image to 5D3 Lens: 50mm f5.6. All my arguments were made to be "compatible" with jcs's post and his point of view. - again, I was talking about something else.. Not concepts, not possibilities, but real SB-like products. (*) - some of other issues in post #7. - gaining stop of light in this case is not awful but also not an advantage (over bigger sensor).. but (*) (*) I'm tired explaining. Don't know if it's because of my English (it's far from my native language), but I have realized people don't understand my posts so it's pointless to write them. From now I'll join only simplest discussions.

I'm talking about avarage. Most of m43 sensors have worse DR than FF sensors released in the same time. Just read random reviews or look at http://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Ratings/List-view/%28type%29/usecase_landscape . I don't care why. Maybe it will change in future, but for now the best m43 sensors have worse DR than most modern FF sensors. But you said in the beginning that you should compare GH4 Lens: 25mm f2.8 to 5D3 Lens: 50mm f5.6. And now you are comparing FF 1.4 to m43 1.4? That AF is very poor. No m43 version yet. Does not solve other SB issues.

And it's funny that even size advantage of m43 system is getting weaker.. Just look at A7 + 35mm/2.8 Zeiss :). Sony FF NEX is quite a revolution (at least in photography).
