i dont think so .... sony makes great sensors with lot of DR... what we seen now is cinegamma baked image ...RAW will give full resolution and DR of the camera... but let wait for the price of external recored ...
-
lets wait for 4k raw samples ...

looks like as a tweaked industrial camera ...probably low DR because of global shutter .... but if is cheap it would be good high fps companion to BMD camera ... probably use http://www.cmosis.com/products/standard_products/cmv2000 sensor (very popular today) ... so its 10 stop DR camera...

i like Jeff Cronenweth style low key and lot of scenes light with practical lights... but his best work is Fight Club ...he is not DP who can work with digital ...he and David Fincher should back to shoot with film...

this SENSOR is not 42 db ... TC made wrong calculation ... he count pixel dynamic range db as SNR .... and there is difference between sensor db dynamic range and usable DR ... first redone was 66db(11.3) usable about 9.5 ... ikonoskop kodak sensor is rated 64db but usable 9.... if this sensor is 88db then we can expect around 13 depends how its tweaked ....

CIS1021 produced this year is just little brother of CIS2051 (basically crop factor @1080p) they share same technology ...looks like that BMD guys decide to go cutting edge in all aspects of this camera ... very exiting.... PS:its not 42db ,SNR and pixel dynamic range db are not same thing (42db DR would mean less than 7 stops ,someone did bad calculation) its 88db of dynamic range...

CANON is testing brand loyalty to the max .... they use all that free marketing delivered by DSLR users to sell their products for crazy high prices... and of course they fail same as SONY did..... but thats good ,after that they gives as what we want for reasonable price.... -

i dont think that BMD is crippled ... hardware is just not fast enough to go 2.5K 30fps+...only thing they can do is to crop sensor for lower resolution and faster fps...
Then this is what they can do. I would welcome 720p 60fps.
i was thinkig about 1920 @ 50p... and it will be s16 size.... -

if BMD camera become successful (and there is no reason not to ) they can ask people who make their sensor to scale it up to s35 ... sensor is now 5.5MP 4:3 and if they decide to go 8MP 16:9 s35 i would be only 40% bigger ... so it should not be much more expensive... -

@rommex why not good old buyout ...it is done before ...best way to kill competition ... -
this guys and girl are part of our world ... few people with limited resources but with passion to tell story ... and i like their ironic point of view... i can understand why Kubrick used 65mm and rigs to make 2001 (it was necessary to show future world ) ... but do you really need all that to shot The Ticket that should be intimate relationship and human story ? and great video, thanks ... so true ... :)

@christianhubbard lets see ... two guys one girl and cheap equiment... Shane Hurlbut :big crew , pro lighting , best lens ... and dont forget all the magic of Technicolor facilities , Dark Energy software and best color correction money can buy ... i bet on this guys and if you cant see why then u you're ... :)

https://vimeo.com/40117480 i really like work of this guys ... they make some of the best images made by canon camera (with cheap lens and low budget postproduction).... im really puzzled why they are not more famous ... that video beats anything what i seen made by Shane Hurlbut and Philip Bloom ... https://vimeo.com/25465542 :)
