My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
jcs replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
Thanks for creating the animated gif which clearly shows equivalence, even when the settings aren't exact (which mostly effects shadows- bokeh matches pretty nicely). If you want to see perfection, dig up the computer graphics renderings from one of the "FF/MF look" threads on this forum: the results are pixel perfect (probably (photon) ray-traced optics). I think what people are liking about the MF lenses is their character, and even what some might call artifacts (including artifacts from the focal reducer). -

What proof do you have for this? -
My thoughts on the Kipon Medium Format "Speedbooster"
jcs replied to Mattias Burling's topic in Cameras
I did those tests- it's not really possible to do perfect equivalence with physical lenses unless all the settings can be exactly matched. In the first example, the only major difference was shadow detail which could be related to ISO... In the second example, maybe I made a mistake or it's still related to optics not really being equivalent. The 'normal' test matches almost perfectly. Brain Caldwell, the optical engineer and inventor of the Speed Booster says the same thing regarding FF vs. MF. That's why he wasn't interested in making a MF to FF SpeedBooster... In any case, the differences are minor and most people couldn't tell the difference. Someone posted computer graphics (ray traced?) examples that matched perfectly, as the math predicted. -

For those in or near LA, there's a cool Leica store and gallery on the 2nd floor just East of Beverly Hills: http://www.leicagalleryla.com/.

Look's great Matthew19- nice job editing and touching music choice. With a little post sharpening it can be sharp enough for tight and medium shots, which looks like most of your shots. For wides it's still not going to looking like 4K downsampled to 1080p. For YouTube which is watched heavily on mobile devices these days, the in-camera 1080p is detailed enough. I still have a 5D3 (haven't shot H.264 video with it in a long time) and don't feel that the 1DX II is improved in sharpness/detail over the 5D3 post sharpened (here's a test I did after the 5D3 debate that it was too soft): For anything serious and short in length I use the 1DX II in 4K and downsample (lately only for 4K 60 paired with the C300 II as the primary camera). In any case, the 1080p from both cameras is sharp/detailed enough for people/closeups/mid shots and the colors look great out of camera. People have been using diffusion/softening filters (e.g. Black Pro-Mist, nylon stockings) to take the edge off over-sharp cameras for a long time

Hey mawnnn, the C300 II with ARRI compatible settings rocks: Canon Log 2, Cinema Gamma, and Production Matrix. Then use an ARRI LUT to Rec709 in post and add saturation & contrast as desired- really fast & easy: We also use the 1DX II, and while it looks excellent, the C300 II with ARRI compatible color is like using an Alexa with autofocus. To speed up production and save diskspace, we use 1080p24 50Mbps (IPB) most of the time. 4K is used for wide shots that we crop in post (faster & easier than doing a 2 camera shoot). Ya gotta use the C300 II in production to really appreciate it beyond tests: it's underrated until you've used it for a while

Audio Technica makes good stuff. The AT 4029 is an excellent mic. Mid-side stereo is very cool and highly useful, allowing for everything between mono to very wide stereo in post (lots of free plugins, I use MSED. During playback on good speakers, it can sound very present/3D). I started looking for hypercardioid mics after learning first-hand why shotguns can be problematic indoors when there are reverberations or reflections. The AT 4029 had been perfect in carpeted/highly damped locations. For monitoring, the Audio Technica ATH-M50x is quite remarkable for the price (see the reviews). The Sony 7506 is the 'standard' and is lighter and more comfortable, so I use them for on location monitoring (had them first). I use the ATH-M50 (older model with straight cable) for critical sound mixing in post, noticeably more detailed sound vs. the Sony.

Audix SCX1-HC on one channel and the Schoeps CMC641 on the other (stereo). Can you tell the difference?

@Hans Punk humor is cool though this is a serious content/action issue.

Why stop there? Why not internal 12-bit RGB 444? (only aware of the C300 II currently with that option. RAW of course reconstructs to 10+ bit RGB 444). @webrunner5 No perfect solution, though there are better solutions than what we've been experiencing, namely we need to not accept behavior that serves them and not us (voting, buying/not-buying goods, peaceful protests, writing/calling congressmen etc.).

Now that Trump is President of the United States, what can we in the media do to help make the World a Better Place (vs. Make America Great Again which alienates the rest of the world)? First everyone can learn what has really been happening with the so-called Deep State (Democratic and Republican parties- two sides of the same coin): Globalist Agenda - http://www.globalistagenda.org/ , http://www.globalresearch.ca George Soros and what he's been doing with his money and power through the Open Society Foundation Operation Mockingbird and mass hypnosis via the mainstream media (see this video: https://therealstrategy.com/nlp-in-the-msm-exposing-mind-control/ ) 9/11 false flag, the Bin Laden legend ISIS and terrorists funded and helped as a tool to destabilize countries for the benefit of the NWO elites resulting in massive suffering of innocent people Pizzagate - so horrible no one wants to talk about it and is deeply saddening that some top people in power may be doing these things The first step is to stop attacking Trump (or Obama, or Hillary, or Soros etc.). We need to focus on their policies and current actions to make sure they are doing what we, the people want, vs. what the very small ruling elite want. I believe the ruling elite collectively want to do good, however absolute power tends to corrupt absolutely, and very bad things have been happening due to the competition of the so-called Dominator culture. There are peaceful marches happening right now on woman and gay rights, which is the right thing do to. Peacefully protest and discuss the policies and don't ever give up until the policy reflects the will of the people, not a religious or special interest minority. Religion and special interests, when not driven by love, kindness, and unity, and understanding of large scale systems and populations, is highly toxic and harmful, like a virulent cancer (e.g. the results of taking away Planned Parenthood and crime). Instead of attacking the whole body, we need to focus on just the harmful policies. And continue to have patience and give love and kindness to those who don't yet understand the truth. The MSM (main stream media) is unfortunately corrupt. It's up to us via social media to each and every one of us pitch in and help solve these issues. Via your personal social media posts, videos, podcasts, discussions in the pub, parties, friends and family, and ultimately via action. Including voting, calling congressmen, creating content which unites people and promotes the right ideas, and reminding those who promote division and hate that they are following the Deep State programming to get us to fight each other so they can maintain power and continue manipulating and controlling us. Ultimately, we need to show the NWO elites there is another way, a peaceful way which utilizes the collective intelligence of the entire population to heal the planet and Make the World a Better Place.

The Schoeps CMC641 is one of the top indoor microphones if you want the best. The Audix SCX1-HC performs very similarly and is a great deal (we use both and they match well). Curtis Judd doesn't recommend the NT5 for indoor dialog (you can hear the NT5, Audix, and a few others tested here).

Yeah I'm using a 2TB 960 Pro M.2. I think they are all M.2 format after the 850 Pro (using one in the prior machine). Looks like only Intel is offering drives with the new U.2 format (2.5" SSD drives with U.2 connectors and NVMe performance (should be similar to M.2, some report faster, some report slower)).

We have discussed contacting Coast to Coast as we both have contacts there. I contacted George Knapp (area 51, Bob Lazar stories) when we studied NLP in Vegas, however he was busy and we're not primarily focussed on UFOs or Area 51. There is something possibly very interesting going on in Antarctica- a discovery of a lost civilization, (advanced technology ruins), a break-away civilization (with advanced technology- zero point energy, antigravity, etc.), or aliens from other planets or universes. All these subjects are fascinating, as is the human mind and the nature of reality itself. While most of the reports of these things are bunk, hoaxes, etc., a few are very compelling, especially military, commercial pilots, and astronaut reports. The central theme of Cosmic Flow is mind expansion and healing. While my day jobs are executive leadership positions and I have no issues speaking to live audiences, my on camera performance needs work. Jacqui is a trained actress and comedian (+ hypnotherapist and NLP coach) and thus we've focused on putting the best talent in front of the camera. We'll both be talking at the Conscious Life Expo in LA Sunday February 12th (George Noory will be there (c2c), as will Sean Stone (Oliver Stone's son; we had him on Cosmic Flow as a guest talking about Aliens/UFOs)). Jacqui will be talking about past lives and I'll be talking about nutrition and health (we'll be selling my e-book on recommended supplements and experiences with nutrition and healing myself after facing death a few times (started after being poisoned with gadolinium for an MRA (MRI with contrast)). Facing death completely changes one's view on life. There is a way to experience facing death without actually almost dying: DMT can do it and especially 5MeO-DMT. I used to eat junk and didn't listen to people recommending that I stop and eat healthy, so I completely understand when people won't listen to truth- I ignored it too until facing death. Many people won't quit smoking, drinking, or eating junk until having a heart attack, stroke, or cancer, etc., and a doctor tells them you have a choice. Change your ways or die (some people still choose death, and that's OK too).

Did you read the link you posted on NLP? Most of the replies backed up NLP as a useful tool. NLP is a form of hypnosis. Is hypnosis real or pseudoscience? They are both tools, and both can help people heal their minds and improve their lives. The pentagon, military, and large multinational corporations all use NLP. People in power would prefer you believed it to be bunk and ignored it. Is John Sarnow a legitimate scientist and MD? He found the mind-body connection with pain: https://www.amazon.com/Healing-Back-Pain-Mind-Body-Connection/dp/0446557684 . Here's another book on the mind-body connection with general pain: https://www.amazon.com/Great-Pain-Deception-Faulty-Medical/dp/0615462219/ . These concepts are taught in NLP- tools to program the unconscious mind to heal both the mind and the body (which form feedback loops; yoga and meditation also help to break negative feedback loops in the mind-body system). Do you think there are people who want this information suppressed? Maybe surgeons and big Pharma due to lost profits? I'm not recommending you do anything illegal in your state/country or anything you are uncomfortable with. I am recommending that if you use alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, or sugar/processed foods, that you give them all up and/or highly minimize usage as those substances are all harmful drugs. Not only hard on your biological body, but also harmful to your mind and to those around you from the resulting behavior. I do recommend that you read Terence McKenna's book Food of the Gods (Jim Carey will be playing him in an upcoming movie). MJ used to be illegal (politics dating back to hemp paper, then later with big Pharma protecting its profits). DMT is now in clinical trials to help with a variety of issues- someday it will be completely legal again, just like MJ (DMT is legal in ayahuasca for religious ceremonies in certain cases only right now beyond clinical trials). If you want to help the world, study DMT and voice support for legalization (minimally by prescription as MJ started out). Pharma SSRI, opioid, and similar meds are highly toxic and in the long run don't work (just another addictive profit tool for big Pharma; they're not looking to cure anything or heal anyone, only to make continuous profits forever). Alcohol and cigarettes are used by people to deal with stress with terrible long term consequences. Regarding the physicist and Deepok. The man started talking about locality and non-locality (non-locality describes non-local quantum effects, of which entanglement is part, however not required). Deepok brought up infinity (which in essence is a never ending process, like an infinite loop in software) the man agreed with Deepok's point on infinity, and they moved on. What specific exchange and points was Deepok schooled on? For example, when I said Deepok and Jean's comments were good, they were talking specifically about working together to provide solutions and helping each other vs using science for building weapons and promoting war. Can you provide a single specific example which illustrates your point that Deepok was schooled? I provided links to articles on scientific studies which show that positive thought effects are real and it works. Your response is that is confirmation bias because I don't have critical thinking skills since I don't reject all MSM as brainwashing? You're joking again, right? You're using a classic tactic in politics- accusing me of doing what you are doing. NLP calls this Perception is Projection. Your mind is a kind of computer. Your eyes cameras, ears microphones, nose olfactory sensor, body somatosensory input devices. Your consciousness is a kind of simulation, only to you it is not a simulation, it is primary. Everything you perceive is warped by your own personal filters, different from everyone else in the universe. You can't help insulting me in this debate because you are running on autopilot, unaware of your behavior, and this behavior is running in the software of your unconscious mind (you said you’d apologize if I pointed it out and you did not, and you keep doing it). When presented with information that challenges your worldview, you ignore it or throw distractions or insults, then move on to another topic. This is all happening without you being aware of it, right? Or are you doing it consciously? I truly hope that this experience will wake you up, and that you'll then help wake up others. Don't you feel better when you help people vs. insulting/harming them? This post will upset your ego and you'll get over it, but perhaps not before you throw more insults (I won’t take it personally, if it makes you feel good, go right ahead). You said you’d watch the video on Predatory Capitalism? Here it as again: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-K8bf6dbYt4 . Comments?

Easy- we just need more dimensions (we currently can't detect them). Superstring and M-theory try to address it (10 & 11 dimensional theories). Everything in the universe appears to have come from a single point, a singularity (not even a point really- one undefinable spot). Then the question becomes, what came before, why did it start, etc. Ancient man has been saying we are all still connected, and I believe they are right- in higher dimensions. We create quantum entanglement with a beam splitter and perhaps in nature by other means. There aren't necessarily twins on the other side of the universe (there could be though). A natural question is if we create a quantum entangled pair with a beam splitter, can we repeat the process and get many all entangled together or does the next beam split break the prior connection? DMT journeys can provide some clues, however what is experienced is beyond words, so hard to explain in human form. What is commonly observed is that we are all part of a continuum consciousness, collectively God. The Dominator culture (I first heard this term from Terence McKenna), which claims one god and promotes alcohol, tobacco, caffeine, and processed food (sugar), is currently being challenged again by the Feminine Plant culture (again from McKenna), guided by the wisdom of plants: organic foods and for mind expansion- MJ, mushrooms, ayahuasca, ergotamine (synth as LSD). This last happened in the 60's, where we had the Vietnam war. The Dominators are trying to start a war with Russia and are using MSM and fake news to try to hold on to power. The internet and social media threw them a curveball as too many people have woken up and voted them out (both parties are the same- Trump is an outsider). We've got to keep waking people up, and make sure Trump does what's best for everyone and the planet. Lots of work to do, and everyone needs to be part of it (vs. expecting someone else to do it and blaming those in power). We've got to ease into a new way of sustainable living on this planet beyond capitalism.

Yes, Feynman was a great teacher (Six Easy Pieces & Six Not-So-Easy Pieces are good books, he explains the concepts clearly and the math is relatively simple (not a lot of it if one isn't into math; simple calculus and linear algebra)). The reason he said that is because unlike classical physics, we can't make predictions in quantum physics, only estimations based on probability. We need more dimensions than 3 space + 1 time to describe this universe. Superstring theory requires 9 space + 1 time dimensions, and M-theory which unifies superstring theories requires 10 space + 1 time dimensions. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M-theory . The challenge so far is coming up with a way to test them. These theories also give rise to 'many worlds', parallel universes, and are very interesting for both physicists and lay people alike (tons of cool Sci Fi based on these concepts). Have you watched Rick & Morty? Amazing writing! It's on Hulu & YouTube if you don't get cable. Also see The Man in the High Castle on Amazon Video. What she says and Deepok says is good (video starts at the point I'm talking about): I jumped around, didn't find anywhere Deepok was schooled- what part specifically? Deepok made more sense than Shermer.

Unconscious mind- to understand it fully requires a complete simulation of the neural network of the brain, and then perhaps an AI to explain it to us. We don't need to fully understand it to reprogram it. MSM has been using NLP to brainwash the masses for a long time. I encourage you to learn NLP as a tool for yourself as well as to protect yourself from manipulation. If you really want to understand your unconscious mind, research DMT. DMT is a key to world peace. Read Terence McKenna's "Food of the Gods" (or get the audio book on Audible). Nothing can be proven to someone who's already made up their mind that they already know everything. It's OK to think that way, we all get to create our own reality, our own personal simulation of what is real or not (each of our brains synthesizes a virtual reality from real-time inputs). It gets tricky when interacting with other people, especially when resources become scarce (which is what is happening in the world today). You watched the entire Bigfoot video and thought we were serious? You're kidding, right? Of course you can't prove a negative, that was my point. However you can use the scientific method and use a Null Hypothesis such as, "Positive thinking has no effect on successful outcomes" then design an experiment (ideally double blind) and test it. I've seen enough evidence in life experience, books, and through simulations and understanding of biological systems to be confident that it's real, as common sense. If your test showed otherwise I'd be curious to understand why. This has been studied scientifically (positive MSM content- it's not all bad)... Lots of good enough here: http://www.collective-evolution.com/2016/02/07/physicists-examine-consciousness-conclude-the-universe-is-spiritual-immaterial-mental/ Consciousness may be primary, not materialism. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/carla-schesser/the-extraordinary-scienti_b_8353068.html (same point regarding quantum physics- if it doesn't make sense that an observer causes the environment (quantum effects) to change, and you don't see how that can effect your reality at the macroscopic level, then no worries. http://www.abc.net.au/radionational/programs/allinthemind/the-scientific-evidence-for-positive-thinking/6553614 http://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2012/04/how-the-power-of-positive-thinking-won-scientific-credibility/256223/ http://www.cnn.com/2013/10/11/business/the-science-behind-positive-thinking/ http://nymag.com/scienceofus/2014/12/positive-thinking-doesnt-work-heres-what-does.html Here someone says it doesn't work, however that's just a headline to get readers. They are also mentioning an important fact, that positive thinking without action doesn't help much (which is also taught by NLP). Positive thought + action = attaining goals.

Have your read Dale Carnegie, Napoleon Hill, Eckhart Tolle, Thich Nhat Hanh, Tony Robins, etc.? Even Deepok Chopra (who I also don't agree with, however some of what he says is helpful). There is a pattern successful people follow. You can model yourself after successful people and become successful yourself. If you don't first believe that you can do something, how can you do it? Have you studied Neuro-Linguistic Programming? Do you understand how it and the unconscious mind works? I only ask because you are putting down our work and it doesn't seem like you understand these concepts. I've highlighted above where you are call me a dishonest charlatan and putting down our YouTube channel- that's ad hominem. Are you a math person? Would it help if I went over the equations for quantum physics and described what they do? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_equations_in_quantum_mechanics . Or do I need a pHD, labcoat and a bunch of lasers, mirrors, beam splitters, and electron guns to qualify? Do you see you are only trying to win an argument vs. learning something new? Do you understand how simulations can model reality to understand how things work at large scale? You haven't addressed economist Mark Blyth's video on Predatory Capitalism, why is that? Cosmic Flow is entertainment with embedded psychology. It takes a while to build a brand and following, are you familiar with social media dynamics, viral coefficients, etc.? It's a work in progress (part time). Bigfoot and Area 51 are tongue-in-cheek- it's humor (there's tons of evidence for UFOs- whether they are alien, breakaway civilization, or government secrets is open to debate). Alan Watts made a great point about not taking oneself too seriously, especially in matters of spirituality. My business partner believes in past lives. I have not experienced anything in my life to convince me that it's real, however I don't reject her model of the world. I'm open-minded- who knows what's really going on in the universe? If the concept of past lives helps someone deal with this reality, then it's a useful coping tool. Nothing can be proven- ever been in a lawsuit? It's all about persuasion. Science is the same thing. All scientists don't agree. Everything's a probability function which drives collective agreement, and science is constantly rewriting itself (as it should for those who don't treat science as a religion). Can you prove that positive thoughts don't result in success? Right, you can't. However there's plenty of evidence to support that it does- ask successful people or read books on the subject. Are you as successful as you want to be? Are you happy with your life or do you want to change it? Do people who work together get more done than people who fight each other? Does this need a science experiment or is this common sense? Can you scientifically prove anything I said (or produced on Cosmic Flow) is not true?

You need to sample 2x for each dimension, 2x for X and 2x for Y.
-
Nyquist sampling theory shows us we need to oversample the signal 2x in order to fully reconstruct the signal without artifacts. Shooting test charts will show the difference between 6K and 8K for 4K output. You're right in the real world it might not make much difference in most cases to the average viewer.

OK let's play the ego game. I have a degree in Cognitive Science from UCSD with a specialization in artificial intelligence (and have written neural networks from scratch, worked on projects with GPU neural networks as well as machine vision). I've written complex real-time simulators including flight simulators using fluid dynamics to model airflow, custom energy-accurate integrators, and 100% custom from scratch impulse-based rigid-body physics. For the driving simulator I modeled the ground using cubic polynomials with a Newton gradient solver to intersect rays to compute tire-surface interaction with C1 continuity, allowing for very high speed accurate collision modeling (including physical bump mapping to simulate roughness when needed). The engine sound simulation was modeled on my Z06 Corvette (recorded from actual engine then modeled in real-time). The tire simulation is completely custom (a very hard problem to model realistically due to the nonlinear behavior of the elastic rotating tire), the network protocol is a custom UDP design which incorporates TCP design elements (reliable) with UDP elements (non-retransmitted elements such as position) for optimal network bandwidth utilization (used in the first XBox Live! game). Additionally, the physics simulation hid visible lag well over 500ms, including collisions. AI is used to drive the cars around the track and avoid collisions (the flight simulator also used AI to fly the aircraft, which could also perform post-stall maneuvers, long before real aircraft could do this in real life. The model uses a generalized rigid body moving through a fluid, which wasn't replicated by other developers until many years later). I wrote the first stereoscopic head-tracking multiplayer games for the PC (virtual reality), including 3D sound modeling, and showed John Carmack (now CTO of Oculus) how to do proper stereoscopic 3D when my company ported Quake to stereo3D for H3D Entertainment. I'm an expert in real-time simulations and accurate modeling of real-world systems. I'm very familiar with the scientific method, as well as how to conduct single and double blind studies for psychology. When I proved that the full frame look is a myth, people still argued and didn't believe it (some still don't believe it). I did the math, did the experiment, and showed the results for others to replicate. http://brightland.com/w/the-full-frame-look-is-a-myth-heres-how-to-prove-it-for-yourself/, There's another thread where someone created excellent 3D renderings, taking the lens out of the equation, and some folks still argued. So the point is even with the scientific method, math, real-world examples and simulations, people still argue because of their ego, just like you are doing right now. You are using ad hominem, which is an instant fail in debate. You've got to focus on the topic at hand, instead of attacking the other party, otherwise it becomes clear you have no valid argument in the debate. From my background in mathematics, physical simulators, networked simulations, and artificial intelligence, I can see patterns in systems such as quantum physics when combined with concepts from psychology (as well as life experience) that make a good case for concepts like "thoughts make things", that working together and not fighting is more efficient in terms of energy, and am confident that a simulator which replicates large systems such as what is going on in the world today would coincide with economist Mark Blyth's analysis on the effects of Predatory Capitalism. The quantum experiments show that the universe reacts to perceivers in irrational ways. Einstein thought quantum entanglement was bunk, calling it 'spooky action at a distance'. He was wrong. These simple concepts should give one a powerful idea as to what the universe really is on a large scale. Due to the quantized nature of quantum physics (hence the name), some theorists believe the universe is a simulation running in a computer (and are creating tests to check the theory). Hinduism, Buddhism, Zen believe the universe and everything in it is God (which makes all of us elements of God). Alan Watts does a good job describing it (YouTube). And that there's a 'peek-a-boo' with our consciousnesses and the universe/God which correlates well with what we are learning about quantum physics. Science can't explain everything (not even close), it's just a tool, and said tool has limitations. The human filter on reality also hides the true nature of reality, and the only way you can see this is through meditation and/or through compounds such as DMT (which shuts off the human filter 'software', especially 5MeO-DMT). This post is intended to open your mind to possibilities beyond close-minded thinking. If you disagree and choose not to look deeper into what reality really is, that's cool. Many people enjoy living in illusion, The Matrix was a good example of this concept.

The Cosmic Flow videos we produce are based on psychology and quantum physics: The latest experiments show that the universe reacts to how we interact with it in bizarre ways, like it's a reactive computer, even intelligent. Crazy but true. Positive, constructive thought results in better outcomes than negative thought. That's both physics and psychology. Fighting with each other reduces our power to get work done and oppose negative forces. Think of the immune system in your body- if it fights itself (autoimmune) it can't fight off disease or cancer. Negative thoughts reduce immune function. The same applies to society at large, and there are people that know this and are unfortunately using it as a tool to do very bad things. Did you watch the video Juxx989 posted (about Predatory Capitalism)? It's based on economics, and explains clearly what has happened and what will happen- science is a useful tool to make predictions. Where's the pseudoscience and woo-woo?

Hey Shawn, the 1DX II 4K is soft. It's ok, it looks great! Even the GH4 4K has more detail, however the 1DX II has much better color control and the image looks more organic. To get full detail 4K we need an 8K sensor and good downsampling to prevent aliasing (Nyquist)...
