Very nice. I've used Kholi's LUTs since 2013, as well as Captain Hooks.

Thanks man. I think I'm going to trade up for the GH5. I use my UM46K most of the time now but I still love using the GH4 for various shoots.

Exposing V Log on the GH5 should be a lot easier than on the GH4. It took me a while to nail the exposure, but i would first look at the exp meter and get it near 0. Block out any super highlighted areas with your finger and look at the meter again. The highlight rolloff is better in V Log than standard so you can expose a bit to the right to avoid shadow noise. Having a LUT preview for V Log in the GH5 is a huge help. You should be able to eyeball the exposure with no troubles.

Does anyone know how far 2.8 goes with the 12-60?
-
I LOVE the fact that they're giving LUT preview in camera. I hope they give an anamorphic desqueeze preview option.
-
Does anyone know if anamorphic desqueeze preview is in the plans for the GH5?

That's actually quite amazing that a corporate client wants hard lighting for an interview. Seems like they typically go over-and-beyond to soften faces.

Did you buy it used? If not you could still return it.

I'm pretty sure they're going to combine the BM Cinema Camera, Pocket Camera, and Ursa Mini into one line of DSLR sized cameras. Of course it wont have the features of the Ursa Mini but possibly use the same 4"-5" touchscreen and SD or CFast2 recording. Resolution and frame rates capped. It seems clear that they've setup the Micro Cinema Camera as the tiny beast that alot of people used the pocket camera for, but have something better in store for people who use the Pocket Camera as a mini accessorized A cam.

Holy shit , that looks so bad. Why would they give one to Philip Bloom to promote?

How much of your frame with be VFX? The more VFX, the easier to replicate real film grain. You don't want your plate footage to be too noisy, but a little is fine. Just run a denoiser so that it's on a level playing field as the VFX.
-
I would just denoise your plate footage, then add grain on top of the composition. For grain overlays I like this one: http://rgrain.com/

Ha. He was looking right at your camera too.

Another good example of how lighting and talent can make an iPhone sing. Jon Chema:

Looks great! I think it's so funny how far cameras have come in 5 years, yet the complaints compound even more. "Yeah it's HD 180 frames per second in a handheld camera with a 5 axis stabilizer, but....."
-
For sure. I just switched over to ProRes444. Actually a big jump from 10bit in my opinion.

V Log L is well worth $100 but it's just silly that it's an add on. I think if the GH5 was 2099 it wouldn't even be a big deal.

Little things like the joystick are going to be very useful. Sounds like Panasonic perfected their GH line to the ultimate little camera.

The most versatile is the LS1 variable temp. The 2nd one that I'd look into is the COB120t/d. It has a Bowens S mount, so you can add fresnel lenses, softboxes, etc. It's super bright when you add a fresnel lens.

Aputure for sure. The stuff that they're doing is game changing. Great color balance. Remote controls where can assign all of your lights onto 1 small dimmer. Lightweight, battery powered (if needed), powerful.

What camera do you want to see a review of next?
AaronChicago replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
The UM46k isn't too big. It easily fits in one hand with the other hand underneath the camera, focusing. No need for external monitors/recorders like the FS5 to get ProRes/RAW. Now if you're wanting to go incognito then it's not a good choice. -
Nice. Is that a Worley?

Don't pull a Tommy Wisseau. Just rent a good camera and use the rest of the money on production.
