So I got the iPhone 7 Plus yesterday. I have to say I'm disappointed in the dual lens system. It's not really a telephoto lens. The iPhone sensor is 1/3" and the actual lenses are 4mm and 7mm. The field of view crop is equivalent to 28mm and 58mm. So as you can imagine a 7mm with a 7x crop isn't exactly an exciting telephoto lens. It's pretty good for keeping resolution while digitally zooming, but that's it. Apple is releasing a software update that emulates bokeh background blur this fall which will help a bit.

Off topic a bit but I watched a Ted Talk explaining that studies show Gen Z actually prefers books and physical objects over digital consumption. Gen Z is the generation after millenials.

The colors are totally different. The focal lengths aren't even the same either. Weird comparison video.

They really should make a BMPCC/BMCC combo and even call it a BMCC mark II. DSLR sized form factor. Articulating screen. Canon battery. SD or CFast 2.0 card slot. EF and MFT mounts.
-
Sorry, that's what I meant. You need external recorder for C500 for those features.
-
That definitely doesn't look good. I'd RMA that sucker.
-
Really? The FS5 is brand new and can't really compete with the C500s color, native EF lens mount, and 4k/60. The catch though is having to use a big external recorder. It's not a deal breaker for some but I think the standard form factor of the Cx00 cameras is ideal.

Starts at 5:44 They have no problem putting C-Log on 8 bit C100 files...

It's a great camera, and the image is excellent. But, in my opinion it doesn't have enough features that are relevant in 2016 to warrant $7,000. If it had DPAF I'd say yes definitely.

Awesome job. Loved it. The actor looks like he could be Oscar Isaac's brother.
-
Surprised at how close the colors are with the GH4 and 5Div. The A7Sii looks like shit in that comparison.

I'm planning on preordered the 7+ tonight. I'm due for an upgrade and the telephoto lens is really the only thing I was looking forward to other than it being water resistant.
-
Exactly. It's not like we're talking about professional recording equipment here. It's your phone. I was looking at a tangled ball of white iphone charger, and headphone cords thinking this is so ridiculous. It may take a few years but cords are going away in mobile tech.
-
Failing is the likely scenario. They might've used all of the deposits for R&D.
-
What year did you expect the 50 yr old 3.5 jack to survive till? I'm stoked about a future with no cords in mobile tech.
-
You would think if it was a big scam to cash in on deposits that they would have at least made up some sort of amazing specs sheet.

Turboguard was talking about cropping into a UHD frame as a "second camera" at 100% zoom. Useful for a cutaway closeup. I try not to use this technique unless I have no other choice, but it does give you 2 different framing options in post. 1 wide at UHD, and 1 close (zoomed 100%) at HD. When you render the final output at HD you aren't losing any resolution with the close-up crop. The wide UHD frame isn't either b/c it's scaled down to HD. I hope that makes sense. It's hard to explain without drawing.
-
They said 56mm but I'm guessing that's the 35mm equivalent.
-
The rez would be 960x540. Depending on your final output it could look muddy.
-
Cropping into 1080 wouldn't look good IMO.
-
I can't take a cinematographers point of view seriously when they don't even know what modern digital cinema cameras can do.
-
Yeah I mentioned the defective UM's. Those are the ones with the magenta corners and splotches.
-
I cropped in 100% on this video with the UM46k, using 4K.
