  1. Bummer news. I was shooting with the 120t indoors and it just didn't feel "extra bright" to me. I'm used to using the Arri 650w fresnel. I put them next to each other and set the Arri to flood. It looks like the 120t is about 3/5 as bright which would put it at around 400-450 watt equivalent.
  2. As soon as the 1DC drops below $3K I'm in. Looking for a small hybrid B cam to the UM46k. The GH4 is a great camera on it's own but it's very hard to match up with Ursa footage.
  3. With the cone reflector it is really narrow. If you take that off its really wide. I don't know the exact angle. Normally yes. In this situation I had alot of natural light coming in through the window (although I was planning on evening sun beaming through). If I were away from the window or in a normal indoor setting, or was shooting in shade close to the subject, then YES it would be bright enough to bounce as a key. Here I had the 120t directly in front of the subject. To the left of the camera. A little bit of diffusion. I haven't done any side by side tests yet but I think it's about equal brightness to an Arri 1K. I own a 650w so I'll do a side by side test soon.
  4. So my original plan here was to use the sunlight from the window as a key, and the 120t as a fill. Unfortunately it started raining so I had to use the 120t as the key, and use a white board as the fill bounce. It's really bright and definitely needs some diffusion with faces b/c of the hard shadows. My favorite 2 things are the dimmer and the running temperature. It runs cool the whole time and you can pick it up to store as soon as you shut it off. Hopefully the daylight version will be out soon!
  5. That was pretty good. The guy has some guts.
  6. Just got my 120t. Definitely brighter that the LS1. Shooting with it this Thursday and will post some pics.
  7. FWW I've shot on a green screen with the GH4 in UHD with no problems. It keys really well.
  8. I was actually impressed up until the point it snapped.
  9. @Oliver Daniel Did you see the Film Riot short where they used the X5 and Epic?
  10. Yeah compression and color could be improved, but resolution? 70" TV's look good in 4K. Like you said, I'm far more interested in HDR and OLED images.
  11. This is true. I think we've hit a limit on pleasing image resolution for home entertainment, and possibly even theater. Headsets are going to be where high resolution will pay off big time.
  12. I guess what I'm thinking is (aside from super slow mo) - who see's Alexa footage from The Revenant or Skyfall and says that it could be improved? 8K isn't going make those movies better. Maybe worse in my opinion. Plus we've already seen a video from DP Dan Mindel comparing 35mm film to the Alexa and there's virtually no difference.
  13. But do they really need a fire put under their belly? They're the king. Honestly what would anyone need that an Arri 65 or Alexa is lacking? Maybe super high frame rates, but that's such a niche feature that the Phantom is covering.
  14. I talked to Ted through email. They're shipping now. Some vendors are already selling on ebay. Local US distributors should have them this week.
  15. Ted, any word on availability for the 120t?
  16. I would get the coiled Atomos cables. I've been through so many bad cables but the Atomos ones have never failed.
  17. I have to disagree with you. H.264 has it's place but 10 bit ProRes LT is a manageable file and so much better than an 8 bit h.264 file. I can shoot 6 hours of 2K ProRes LT on a 256GB CFast card. DPAF is freakin magic though. I'll give you that.
  18. This is why I like the UM46k so much. Set to Film mode with Rec 709 LUT, and shoot. It's nearly impossible to botch exposure or color.
  19. Another UM46K DNG: https://www.dropbox.com/s/jmwoz3lykygdksx/Blackmagic%20URSA%20Mini_1_2016-05-12_0606_C0021_000002.dng?dl=0
  20. It's still king in my opinion. I"m blown away at how close the UM46K can get though. I think if you pick up any of those cameras you listed, you are good to go.
  21. Heat is a crime drama/thriller. Great movie though. I'm assuming the OP meant pure action movie and not a sub genre?
  22. You think they'd go with 8bit 4:2:0 bit if they're using CFast 2.0 cards? It's one way they could cripple it and separate the two I guess.
  23. If its going to have DPAF then why would anyone pay double for a 1DXii? Doesn't sound like a Canon move.
  24. There are so many shitty music videos out there that follow the same formula. These great examples (jonatan, radiohead) are inspiring. Hoping to do something half as cool next time I shoot one.
