I wish they'd make a non servo version of an 18-80. f4 doesn't bother me for a zoom lens. I love using the 24-105 but I find myself wishing it had a slightly wider low end.

I'll be at NAB, what would you like me to check out?
AaronChicago replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
Not saying that it will over take normal film making, but I think it'll help you get extra jobs over someone else if you know how to edit or shoot VR. It's getting pretty competitive out there and utilizing new tech helps to give an advantage. With that being said, if it's not something you enjoy then it's not worth it. No reason to get into new tech if it's something you'll hate doing every week. -

I think all DP's, editors, and VFX artists should start getting familiar with VR. It'll give you a leg up in the near future. -
Nice. Look's like a great light. Think the color rendition is good enough to take the place of a 4 bank Kino?
-
Holy shit. This is a dream come true for VFX movies.

Check out C Log profile from Canon. Low saturation and contrast. Adjust to your liking. Still great Canon colors.

Sony pumps out new cameras every month now.

Rogue One Trailer - Alexa 65 and Panavision 70mm lenses
AaronChicago replied to AaronChicago's topic in Cameras
From Panavisions site: "Photographed by Greig Fraser, ACS, ASC with Panavision's new anamorphic ULTRA PANAVISION 70 optics." http://www.panavision.com/new-rogue-one-star-wars-story-trailer So I guess they're a new version of the ones Tarantino brought back? -
Rogue One Trailer - Alexa 65 and Panavision 70mm lenses

Yeah from what Kathleen Kennedy has said, they are wanting to do genre films inside the Star Wars universe, like Marvel. I'm assuming Rogue One will be an action heist film. The Han Solo origin story is supposed to lean toward action comedy. Should be interesting. I just absolutely love Star Wars canon so I hope they don't drive it into the ground. -

This is a semi prequel. It takes place between Episode III and IV. -
Rogue One Trailer - Alexa 65 and Panavision 70mm lenses

Hateful 8 used 65mm film. It looks like Rogue One is using the same kind of 70mm lenses but using the Alexa as the camera. -

I just picked up a Xeen 24mm on ebay for $1500. It's so nice to have a sturdy lens with a giant focus throw. I plan on collecting a set of them over the next couple of years. Here is a shot with the Xeen 24 and FS700. Another benefit is that they cover full frame up to 6K.

How is video business in your area/country?
AaronChicago replied to Oliver Daniel's topic in Cameras
Speaking for Chicago, the sky's the limit. We have so many options out here if you're willing to put in the effort. You really just have to choose a path and go for it. A friend of mine has been working his way up to Digital Kitchen and finally got the position. It's possibly one of the highest regarded digital agencies in the country. A lot of shows and movies are shot here so there are a lot of production companies looking for skilled positions. Freelancing is probably like any other big city. Tons of competition but tons of clients looking for help. I agree with you that the music video budgets have tanked. The days of small/mid-sized artists spending 20k is over. -
I love the stuff that you guys make. Nice job.

Where can we see some footage? I'd like to see some more examples in a pro setting.

The camera looks killer. I think they should invest in some US/Europe offices and marketing. Send one to influential bloggers and start an online community.

Folks who have the BMMCC. How bright is that red/blue light on the front? Does it seem like it would be annoying for shots where the subject is close to the camera?
-
Good to see that working. I couldn't get it dialed in right with V Log 8 bit.
-
I do the same thing. Haha. Just searched Google. Some people say 400 and some say 800 for the GH4. Not sure officially which one it is. 400 looks cleaner though IMO.
-
I believe 400 is the native ISO
-
For sure. ISO 200 I try to avoid. Same thing with the C100. If you go lower than the native 850 ISO you get banding everywhere. Walls, skies, shirts.

Never used the Z1 but damn I can't imagine how bad that must've been. Like Mattias said it's mainly for menu controls. i turn the brightness down to 25% just so I can see the menu, to save battery life.

I dont think so. I picked it up today bc i forgot. I can barely even judge focus.
