  1. I've thought about this too, but...even if people's monitors are uncalibrated it's all relative to the original color. They're used to seeing quality films/series/music videos in a certain "shift". When you calibrate your color correctly they'll associate the "look" as being correct. Just my theory.

  3. Michael Slovis gave Breaking Bad a signature look with his cinematography. Most of that was film. Better Call Saul look's like they're trying to replicate it a bit, and are pulling it off pretty well.

  5. Thanks. I did get it used from the link above posted by Jimmy. I'm not abandoning the GH4 at all. Just the Assassin, since the Odyssey will record HDMI 4K too.
  6. Dude that's awesome. I love vintage synths. I never have the extra cash for them but I've downloaded the vintage Roland and Korg synths on my iPad to play with a MIDI keyboard. Tears For Fears is one of my all time favorites.
  7. My plan was to rent an FS700 this weekend but I found 2 amazing deals and just went for it (used). I bought Shield's FS700 with 2 Metabones adapters. Also bought the Odyssey 7Q with RAW bundle, and 2 512GB SSD's for $2400.
  8. Settings? I always just drag the clip into the little square below the "Project" panel that says "create new sequence from clip." It recognizes what file type, frame rate, resolution, etc, and creates a sequence customized for the file.
  9. It's 8 bit. That's what bugged me about the A7Sii. If it would've had 10 bit output for SLog3 I would own it right now.

  11. Yes that's correct. It definitely fills a gap in my camera needs. I love the GH4 compact setup, and I love how easy the C100 is to use on the fly, but I need a sturdier codec with HFR. Also it would nearly be Full Frame with a Speedbooster which is something I don't currently have. Red Raven or Scarlet was on my radar for next year but I love the stuff I've seen from the FS700 Raw/ProRes update.
  12. I think I'm going to get on board with the FS700 after I try it this weekend. They're going used for about $3000 but I noticed B&H is selling it brand new with a Metabones electronic EF to NEX adapter for $3999.
  13. Gotcha. Do you need the RAW package update to record RAW to ProRes? If you don't have the RAW bundle how does it read into the 7Q to output ProRes?
  14. Hey Jimmy. I just got around to checking these files out. Does Premiere not support these DNG files? I can open them in AE and PS, but not Premiere.
  15. Why don't you keep the GH4 for video and pick up a 5DIII or used 5DII for photos. Any Canon lenses that you get for it can be used on the GH4 as well with an electronic speedbooster. You could also use the 5D for video when you don't need 4K or slow mo.

  17. Not sure how many of you are Reddit fans, but there's a subreddit called Writing Prompts. People write short stories and they get up voted based on how good they are. There's been a few good short films actually shot from these stories like this one: https://vimeo.com/84707835 Even if there's a story that's good but needs some tweaks, I know alot of the writers would work with you if you have a good portfolio. Just throwing it out there if you're not a talented writing like myself.
  18. Regarding picture profiles. I'm still not convinced C Log gives you any real DR increase unless you're delivering the final in a flat C Log look. Normal LOG LUTs don't translate perfectly with C Log either b/c it's in between Log and REC709 kinda like S Log 2. WDR setting would be great if it's in this camera. I'd say if it's the normal Canon REC709 looks then that's a bummer.
  19. EDIT: I did some research and it looks like the R1 only feeds a 720p signal for recording.
  20. Nice. This has me curious, as well as the FS700. Can you record RED Code over SDI to say, an Odyssey 7Q?
  21. Great video. I know it's not possible with the newer RED cameras, but can you control settings without the RED monitor? Also what about recording SDI out?
  22. Wow great deal. I wouldn't worry about the electronic ND too much. C100 has a good amount of ND strengths and a MASSIVELY versatile ISO range.
