The A7Sii doesn't output 10 bit so the Assassin wouldn't be a good combo with it. I would pick up a 2.5K BMCC (MFT) with some accessories.

I'll rate his 8 that he considers "his films". 1. Pulp Fiction 2. Inglorious Basterds 3. Resevoir Dogs 4. Django Unchained 5. Jackie Brown 6. Hateful Eight 7. Kill Bill Vol 1 8. Kill Bill Vol 2

I've seen Daniel Peters' work with Epic, Ursa 4K, and now 4.6K. Something seems wrong with the 4.6K.

YouTube/Vimeo need to get on that HEVC support.

Jackie Brown is awesome. Tarantino plus Elmore Leonard is a match made in heaven. I loved the acting and costumes in Hateful Eight. The 70mm version was beautiful. It wasn't one of my favorite Tarantino movies overall though. I personally would love to see Tarantino direct/write a 10 episode series for HBO or any other paid cable channel. This is the first year where I feel like I've enjoyed more television series' than movies.

I actually think it's genius what Kodak is doing. They're self aware of their legacy. Instead of competing for an overcrowded digital sensor market, they start with entry level film in hopes to spark a new generation of film users. I could see them rolling out this service to 16mm and 35mm in the future.

Agreed with Jimbo and Casey. Just get maybe a 17-55 for Canon to use with AF when necessary. The other times Nikon will work great on the C100. I still use my Nikon primes when I'm on a tripod or have a chance to pull focus.

Nikon D5 versus Canon 1D C for cinematic 4K video - which wins?

This is the reason I'm not digging the new Blackmagic cameras. I think the old 1080, 2.5K images were so much lovelier. -
Can't speak for everyone but I've found using external recording with the C100 useless. I do see a slight improvement in noise pattern at 400% zoom, but that's all. I can't spot any differences in real time at 100% with/without grading. It's outputting 8 bit into a 10 bit wrapper so it doesn't really offer TRUE 10 bit recording.

Hercules - The World's Smallest Camera Motion Control System

It's actually the second slowest. So far I've only been able to do 3 speeds. -
This is a good point too. When you're shooting clients who want a smooth realistic looking picture, they'll appreciate the C100.
-
I did. I bought it for jobs where I could do all of the shooting myself and not have to hire an extra hand. It saves alot of time. In that sense it is worth it. If I were going off of image only then I'd say no it's not worth it, although Canon colors are really nice.

Maybe rent one first and try it out. Do you have a place that carries them?
-
Plus they just dropped the price from $5500 to $4500.

I'd say the DR is the same as GH4. Color is better on C100. Codec and resolution are lower quality. I love using V Log 10 bit but there's something about just good ole 1080 Super 35mm that gives a nice unique look compared to GH4.

Yes I do have the MKII. The DPAF is amazing. If I'm using it handheld I'll use the Canon 17-55, or 24-105. It's very liberating to use this camera b/c the native battery will run for hours, the SD cards will run for hours, it's rock solid but lightweight, the ISO range is super wide. It really does just get out of the way and let you shoot.

For docs and promos I'd suggest C100ii. It is the perfect camera in that price bracket. I think you'd get a more cinematic/rich image from the URSA but you'll also deal with bigger files.

Here's a quick test in my kitchen. GH4 plus Panasonic 12-35. OIS off. -

I think it depends on how close to the mic it is. If it's a second camera for an interview and placed 10 ft back I don't think it's a problem. If a mic is on the hercules camera it will definitely be a problem. -

I did go without the magnetic upgrade. -

Old thread, but thought I'd mention that I got this in the mail today. Hoping to test it a little more tomorrow. First impressions are that it's solid. Holds a GH4 with 12-35 lens no problem. The motor is a little noisy but that's about the only downside I've seen. -
Ahh. Yeah that makes the Variable ND a necessity. I don't mind the C100's ND wheel since native ISO is 850. Between flexible ISO's and ND's it usually works out perfect.
