There are some samples of that version floating around. There's no Film mode, and the DR looks a bit lacking.

I made a mistake by cancelling my pre order (first in line) when the A7SII came out. I rented it before buying and I'm glad I did b/c I did not like it at all. Now I'm back in line for the BMMCC.

Film, Alexa, Red... They can all look thin after numerous compressions. The A7Sii is just extremely thin all around, from start to finish. I really wanted to like it but it's not a great camera at 8 bit via S Log 2/3. It's not a softness or resolution issue. It's a brittle codec.
-
We're talking about the same profile, but 10 bit. Internal is bad I agree.
-
Maybe if the film was digitized and encoded to 8 bit compressed web delivery.

I'm shooting a music video with V Log next weekend and I'm stoked on getting some good looking results out there. Here is another good looking landscape video I saw on Vimeo with V Log 10 bit:

Went ahead and backed it. I've had an idea for a video that I need a motion control panoramic device. Price isn't bad at all. -

Impressive. -
Looks good. There's absolutely nothing wrong with crushing blacks in certain spots. Especially in dark areas that you don't need to see detail, like under a leaf.
-
I like Andrew's LOG converter too, but with V Log they've totally remapped how colors are rendered. They just look good out of the box. No doubt that you could mess around with Cine D, V, or Natural and match it, but it's extra work. Highlights just look so much better too in my opinion.

It has the same problem that all the other one-handed gimbals have: too much bounce. Curious to see footage from the Nebula 4200 which (they claim) solves that problem.
-
That's bizarre. Almost looks like a rogue LED light is strobing.

I'm sure JCS can give more details but this is on the YouTube page: C300 II: Gamma: Canon Log, Color Space: DCI-P3, Color Matrix: EOS Standard, 4K 410Mbps XF-AVC (ALL-I 422 10-bit H.264). A7S II: Gamma: Slog2, Color Mode: SGamut3.cine, +16 Saturation, -7 Sharpness. 4K 100Mbps XAVC-S (IPB 420 8-bit H.264).

ISO 400 is the worst. Shoot 800 or 1600 and expose a bit to the right. It looks a little noisy in the shadows ungraded, but it's corrected by adding a LUT. I've found that the Varicam LUT is not good at all. The 2 best are Impulz Cineon to Film Contrast 1, and FilmConvert V Log profiles. I'm not opposed to that but what are you looking forward to with GH5 that's improved over GH4? Only thing that I see them adding as a bonus is 4K 60p, and HD 120fps. No way they'll add 10 bit 4:2:2 in camera. The camera that I hope Panasonic makes is the FS7/Cx00 competitor.

Nice test. The skin texture is just flat out better on the C300.

Master Primes, no doubt. https://www.abelcine.com/store/Arri-Zeiss-Master-Primes/

Yeah the 10 bit ProRes files are much better. I shoot with it like a BMCC. Giving it enough light and or contrast to shine. Low light situations might get a little iffy.
-
Yes it can! I haven't run into much noise yet. However I haven't had a low light situation really. I suppose if the noise was bad I'd use Neat Video. It seems to work well on other cameras.
-
Thats unfortunate. You should rent one and try it again with the Ninja Blade. IMO it's worth every penny.
-
Using a monitor with LUT capabilities is a huge help. Its much easier to focus, see color, and expose properly. My go-to LUT now is the Impulz Cineon to Film Contrast 1.
-
Depending on the project, you could just shoot 4K downsampled to HD on the Assassin and have a great looking image at lower file size.
-
I never said it was overrated, or terrible exposure issues. I actually really loved everything about it except the macroblocking. But that was when I was testing it with internal + Varicam LUT. Those 2 are not the greatest combo. I totally get that point of view. In fact that was me a few months ago. I love just having something ready to pick up and record. After testing V Log with 10 bit recorder though I loved the image so much that I can now justify using an Assassin alongside as an A cam option. It can easily cut into Epic or BMCC footage.
-
I'm surprised at the lack of V Log enthusiasm on EOSHD considering the amount of GH4 users. I'm blown away every day by how great it looks via 10 bit Pro Res. Maybe the A7SII release has something to do with the deterred attention.

This was the big bummer for me after renting an A7SII. I found out it's only 8 bit external output. I tried it with my Assassin and it wasn't impressive.
