Will Nikon ever introduce their own LOG profile?
AaronChicago replied to bowielow's topic in Cameras
I can get with this. -
It's not quite as accurate color wise to FS7s S Log 3, but that's to be expected with a drop in file size.
-
Same here. I tried it out and I'm not a fan. I've tried so hard to like Sony but I guess it's just not for me.

Looks like the 4.6K Mini is out to non BM employee beta testers.
-
Here's a link in case you couldn't find it.

That looks a John Hughes movie. Interesting.

Ok just wondering if any noisy ones were below 850 ISO. I found those to be pretty bad. 850-1600 is the sweet spot. Maybe even up to 3200.
-
Yeah in my experience the external recorders make a minimal difference. What ISO were you shooting Inazuma?
-
If you have the 2015 version you can keyframe masks which was a lifesaver for me b/c I used to bounce back and forth between After Effects for that.
-
which nle are you using? It's super easy in Premiere and of course easy in Resolve.
-
I use Premiere so I never conform the files since it uses 32 bit float. I think you're on the right track with using Filmconvert as a first step to get Cine D, V Log, and Cine V looking similar. Inazuma has a great LUT that I would use on Cine D and V that corrects the yellow/orange tint to a natural red. Im on my phone right now but maybe he could send you a link.

What profile did you use for the footage?

URSA Mini vs Raven (Updated with Raven 4.5K)
AaronChicago replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
4K was fine but 4.5K is AMAZING!? What? -
C Log is pretty easy to judge exposure and color on its own in my opinion. Its like SLog 2 or Cinelike D.
-
Actually it was the zoom button. It's connected to the on/off switch and they got stuck so everytime I'd try to zoom the camera would turn off. I ended up just taping down the on switch. But yeah that LCD was not very good either. Hard to judge focus. I really was digging the slow mo footage though!

User experiences on SmallHD 500 serie / Atomos Ninja Assassin
AaronChicago replied to Teemu's topic in Cameras
Yes I really like it. The jump from 5"-7" is a big plus. The weight is a non issue. I'm getting 2 hrs off of each Sony battery. I would recommend it over the 502 (unless you want SDI and super lightweight). -
I couldn't find the exact info on Sony's white sheet, but here is a quote from Convergent Design: "Upon initial release in November, the FS5 will output QFHD (UHD) 3840x2160 video in 4:2:2 10-bit up to 30p via HDMI. The Odyssey7Q+ will record this in Apple ProRes in 422(HQ), 422 or 422(LT). The FS5 will also offer output of S-Log2 and S-Log3, which are fully supported in the Odyssey7Q+ LUT System."

I liked the image but hated the body. I broke a brand new model within a few hours.
-
I was bummed to find out the A7Sii doesn't put out 10 bit via HDMI. The FS5 will output clean 10 bit 4:2:2 so in the times where you needed a strong codec you could connect a 4K recorder. I'm guessing Sony left that feature off of the A7Sii on purpose to not cut into FS5 sales.

Very cool. I was thinking about building a thin wall of colored flourescents for a music video. Trying to figure out time x cost.
-
I'm guessing Blackmagic grew faster than expected and wasn't prepared. They're still a relatively small company (compared to the giants). They'll either have to stay the course and be more accurate with a Q4 camera release schedule, or grow bigger and meet those early release dates.
-
Cool. I've never been a fan of Sony but I'm gonna rent this one and try it. The image looks great, and the features are just too good to pass up.

Does recording to an external recorder reduce heat?
-
Hi jcs, about how long does the A7Sii battery last shooting at 4K?
