B&H Photo - largest seller of camera gear in USA exploits workers

It's sort of like voting. Of course your one vote doesn't change the outcome but you're making a public effort to change something. -

B&H Photo - largest seller of camera gear in USA exploits workers

Unrelated to this incident but I've been more inclined to support local camera stores. Even if one in my area doesn't carry what I need, you can still look up some Ma + Pop stores online with great prices and customer service. -
User experiences on SmallHD 500 serie / Atomos Ninja Assassin
AaronChicago replied to Teemu's topic in Cameras
You'll need a hood for the best viewing brightness outside, unless you're in the shade. The Assassin is a little more reflective. Battery life is hard to judge b/c I used 2 Canon batteries on the 502 and one giant Sony battery for the Assassin. -

Okay so I've had a day or so to play around with the Assassin. I have to say I'm very impressed. It's way lighter than I was expecting. Touch screen is something that i love as well. The menus are very easy to navigate and pull up. The only 2 advantages that the 502 has over the Assassin is weight (very light) and color accuracy (barely). I'm thinking that I'll only be using the 502 as a monitor for the Micro Cinema Camera and occasionally the C100. Anamorphic desqueezing is much easier to active on the Assassin by the way. -

Looks great. Slightly off topic but has anyone seen Project Greenlight this season? The director is brand new and goes to battle with HBO over wanting to use film instead of digital. They show him examples of the Alexa and he says it's "terrible." -
I've sent Vision Color 2 emails in 2 weeks with no reply. Trying to upgrade from Pro to Ultimate, and try out the Cineon LUTs. Does anyone have a .cube or .3dl file I could try via PM? Thanks.

C100 Mkii - Resolution and Image Quality - How to Get the Best Out of It?

Continuous Dual Pixel AF is alot different than the normal continuous AF's. It's way more smooth and has human like focus pulling. It's not great when someone is running at you but other than that it is solid. -

I have used the anamorphic desqueeze. It's not hard to judge focus or composition. The colors and detail on the 502 are outstanding. -

The 502 is more matte (somewhat reflective). With a hood it's perfect. I've even used it without a hood outside in shade. Have you seen the 702 high bright? It looks ideal if you don't need a recorder. -

I'll be able to give you a verdict this week. I own a 502 and have an Assassin on order (for GH4 VLog). -
Yeah man C100 ii is something you can pick up and play with for 5 minutes and then shoot great looking images. Just DO NOT go below 850 ISO. I learned the hard way recently when a beige wall with a backlight had banding that I couldn't fix.
-
I totally know what you mean. Go to flickr, or pinterest and look at wedding photos, family photos, headshots. They all look the same b/c they're shot with a 5D and an L lens.

FS7 is nice, but the menu system is pretty bad, and it's not ideal for situations where you're under the gun and have to move fast. The camera has to shut down and reboot to change any major settings. If it's a corporate shoot where you have time to setup for each shot then yeah, I'd say it's a good option.
-
No problem. I hope I'm not over selling it. If you want I can send you a clip in Dropbox.

The noise in 10 bit is okay. The cyan/magenta blocking is bad on smooth light colored walls. Sunsets show off some banding even in 10 bit for some reason. Other than that it's very usuable and the colors are great.

C100 Mkii - Resolution and Image Quality - How to Get the Best Out of It?
AaronChicago replied to User's topic in Cameras
I'd say it's in the GH4/BMCC range of DR, maybe showing more in the shadows and less in the highlights. Yeah CFast 2.0 cards are crazy right now. It works on any of the Canon lenses as far as I know. I use it with the 17-55 which isn't L. -

For documentaries it's perfect. I'm still on the fence whether or not it's a good commercial, short, music video camera. The big pro's of the C100ii are Dual Pixel AF (great for situations where you're needing the shot nailed in real time, and not rehearsed), ease of use, extremely long battery life, great audio controls, and small but robust file sizes (for long recordings). The con's are that it's 8 bit 4:2:0 and mediocre DR for it's price. The image is solid, but not the best in that price range. I'd keep an eye out on the Ursa Mini when they release some footage. I think it'll be ideal for shorts, music videos, commercials.
