C100 Mkii - Resolution and Image Quality - How to Get the Best Out of It?
AaronChicago replied to User's topic in Cameras
What will you use it for mostly? -
I've used it quite a bit now and I'm loving it with 10 bit recording sans plain walls or sunset. Just shot part of a music video with it that I'll post some clips soon.
-
The RX10ii that I rented was brand new, no one else had used it. 15 minutes into the shoot and the zoom control is stuck. Everytime I try to zoom it turns off the camera.
-
Unfortunately it doesn't. You have to create a LUT for each scene which is cumbersome.
-
For shooting days I say 10 which includes setup times, and lunch break.
-
I'm using SanDisk Extreme Pro 95s that I have for the BMPCC. I hope I don't get f*^k'd.
-
What kind of card were you using? Not starting a debate on brands just curious b/c I'm shooting with an RX10ii this weekend.

Colorista is a good tool for this as well (for Premiere users). Add a new Colorista layer. Set a key on the subjects skin. Isolate, and adjust.

Wow. Good to know, as most of my glass is Nikon.

Ive been tempted to pick up an F3. Only thing holding me back is PL mount. Are you using a converter or PL glass?

Day rate is the way to go with location production. Hourly for post. Just my opinion.

C100 Mkii - Resolution and Image Quality - How to Get the Best Out of It?

I've had it since May. Thank God for the internal ND's with a base ISO of 850 and faster glass. -

So I've done some extensive testing with the C100mII after I experienced alot of banding on a plain wall. 1. Using an ISO under 850 is just BAD. It is the main culprit. 2. Even though the C100 HDMI output is only 8 bit 4:2:2 is greatly reduces banding. -
Hey Ebrahim are you sure it works at 60p with the C100? A couple of people at BMCuser were saying its only 60i.

I predict a hit.

It's hilarious seeing the A7S in that lineup.

The Sigma is awesome, but if I had to recommend one lens for the C100 it would be the Canon 17-55 f2.8. It's an all around great lens with IS, wide angle, and zoom. -
For anyone that has Magic Bullet Looks, I've been using 4 way color corrector as the first treatment on V Log instead of a LUT, or S Curve. For some reason it works really well and keeps the midtones in tact. Here I crushed the blacks and blasted the highlights in 4 way CC, then added M31 Rec709 LUT.

URSA Mini vs Raven (Updated with Raven 4.5K)
AaronChicago replied to Jonesy Jones's topic in Cameras
True, but this is for high end shoots with bigger budgets. I think it makes sense to buy a solid camera for under $10k when you are doing alot of low-mid level budget work and need something that'll produce great images. Also keeping in mind that camera depreciation is pretty bad, BUT you still get some return if you sell it. So you have to factor that in the total cost of ownership through the time period. -

C-Log, and exposure was spot on. I haven't black balanced since May. I guess I should do that! -

Canon 24-105. I was examining some other shots where there was no backlight and the banding is still there, slightly. The backlight just enhanced it. -

Honestly I like the idea of selling components individually, but I hate the idea of it being proprietary only. The sensor in a box is pretty cool and it seems like Blackmagic is catching on to that somewhat. -

So I have run into a bit of a problem with the C100. I noticed yesterday that when a rim light, or backlight is slightly off frame, some severe banding occurs in monotone areas. Same with sunlight. If you shoot with the sun barely out of frame on a blue sky you'll see some banding. I've tried Sapphires De-Band with no luck. 10 bit won't fix this either since the output is 8 bit 4:2:2 external (I'm guessing). Does anyone know for sure? I have a Ninja Star on the way Monday.
