  1. Alot of clients know what they're talking about with RED cameras, but at least half have said "what's that expensive camera called? Red?"
  2. I've only used RED once, and it was a bundle, so I'm curious: can you use third party monitors with RED, by themselves? I know they use touchscreeen functions but wondering if you have to use their proprietary hardware.
  3. If one can avoid large monotone surfaces, and sunsets then V Log is really cool. It's kind of hard to use it as an A cam though when you have to avoid midtone surfaces (which appear frequently).
  4. Hey Mattias, I put a clip up on Dropbox last week: https://www.dropbox.com/s/dqt77smrousu9vk/P1010462.MOV?dl=0
  5. I actually prefer a softer look. The Canon lenses (EF-S, and L) are super sharp. I almost always add a Digital Diffusion FX 1 filter on those lenses.
  6. Same here. I actually pre ordered it, and then cancelled when V Log was released, and now wishing I hadn't cancelled.
  7. That was good! It's a strange camera. At first the image seems average but the more that I use it I fall in love with it. It's easy to operate and very user friendly. I was comparing some stuff I shot the same day with a Blackmagic Pocket Camera and the C100 and was more pleased with how the C100 footage turned out.
  8. I have a Mk II and I did some extensive tests with external ProRes recorder. There is tiny bit of improvement but for me it was not nearly worth the upgrade in file sizes. If I were shooting a 30 second spot that was going to be on television I'd probably use it. Check out what this guy has been doing with the Mark II. Great spots!
  9. The exposure actually looks good. What did you use to convert V Log ?
  10. i have a ninja star on the way. I'm anxious to try 10 bit but cautiously optimistic.
  11. Was at a family wedding this weekend. Applied the Alexa C LUT to see how it looks. Colors look nice although it leans toward a yellow tint. I added a little bit of magenta to balance it out.
  12. Slashcam has discovered that the Arri Log C to REC709 LUT curve is nearly identical to V Log. I've tried it briefly and it does look to be the best fit so far.
  13. That shot is a pretty extreme DR example. Sun blasting the pavement. It's also 1080 at 96fps which is the worst in regards to overall res/detail. Look at other shots and you'll see a difference. Trust me I've been shooting with the GH4 ALOT since it was released and the highlight rolloff is much improved.
  14. This is true. The highlight rolloff is insane. Very cinema camera-like. I think as long as a neutral surface isn't prominent and in focus, or the focal point,it's a real hero.
  15. yeah you click on a portion of the photo and it selects a point on the graph. From there you move the points around to affect the hues.
  16. A kind fella named Joonas T helped me figure out a solution to reduce the macro blocking (cyan/magenta). Using a program called 3D Lut Creator. It takes a little bit of work but it's a good solution for those particular shots that have a beige/grey surface.
  17. To be honest $500 is a good price for just a ProRes recorder to SD card. Even if it had no screen. This is why the Ninja Star is appealing. It would be great if it used SD cards as well.
  18. Yeah I don't understand why it needed to be sent FedEx, overseas.
  19. I got my key in the mail. It's literally a sheet of paper with a key printed on it.
  20. its less noisy at 400 and gets progressively worse up to 1600.
