Yeah, it's been available in store at B&H for the past few weeks, I'm sure they try to always have some cameras in store, even if they still have pre orders waiting.

Corporate / pro video control of indie filmmaking community
Bruno replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
What you're describing here is not the indie filmmaking community, it's a camera-gear-lust driven movement that has very little to do with filmmaking at all. Honestly, I don't think those video-blog-stars have much of an effect on indie filmmaking at all (unless you consider lame camera tests edited to copyrighted music with accompanying fancy titles "indie filmmaking"), if anything they have an effect on gear heads, but I don't see any serious filmmaker pointing them as their great influences anytime soon. Those indie filmmakers might even know who they are and may have seen a video or two when researching a camera, but most of these bloggers have little to offer (or at least have offered very little so far) when it comes to proper filmmaking advice on how to tell a good story and make a relevant film. Let's be honest here for once, regardless of how much we love the tech and wish for the dream camera to come along at a price we can afford, the choice of a camera for a narrative film is probably the least important element of its making, and as long as these people keep acting like it's the the only important factor, they will never represent "the indie filmmaking community". -

http://invite.blackmagicdesign.com/event2013/ They announced this last week, it's not a clarification, but it's no deafening silence either! :) -

Why is it different being an asshole to me compared to being an asshole to a new member? I don't know anyone personally in this forum, therefore I don't take anything personally here, but being an asshole is just being an asshole. Don't you dare being reasonable over here! There's other forums for that mate. :) -

Where I come from calling someone a fucking idiot because you don't agree with him is not arguing or having a discussion, quite the opposite, it's not having a discussion, or losing it if you prefer. You're the one putting him on a pedestal, no need for that, he's already there. Discussion is very welcome in this forum, as long as you share Andrew's opinion. -

Now Andrew, I wasn't even trying to summarize your reportage. I didn't simplify or stupefy your points, I was merely stating what you eventually realized yourself in your post: "things change", therefore don't dismiss them just yet. You got a short fuse and you tend to pull the trigger too fast, then you kind of retract in your obnoxious way, and that makes you look silly more often than not, but people here have realized they shouldn't criticize much, under the risk of getting an answer blown out of proportions like I just did. If I say we shouldn't be blaming BMD for being late due to the simple fact that THEY'RE NOT LATE and you think I'm a fucking idiot and my opinion is idiotic, while you're defending people's (as of yet) false and unfair accusations, then think what you will really... I don't think most give a shit, well I certainly don't. -

And then again, they're not even late yet... Keep in mind you dismissed the 5D3 a few times before, when it came out because it was soft, when the speed booster was announced because it made full frame redundant and unnecessary, and now you swear by it. Also, Magic Lantern has never designed, built and mass produced a camera before, so the comparisons don't really apply, do they? I guess all I'm saying is there's no need to be that quick on the trigger. :) -

Why does it have to be one of the two? I repeat, they're not late yet, they said it would ship in July, so if cameras get to the stores by late August I don't see that as "late". However, if they do fuck up again, I'll be the first to point the finger and blame the way they're doing business. Just not before. -

Well they should have a pretty good idea yeah, whether they're sharing it or not is another thing, but this is kind of their job so they should know... They keep saying July, just last week someone from BMD said July, they booked two events in the USA for July and August, so yeah, I'd say they have an idea when they're shipping... -

I didn't say they're shipping in 2-4 weeks, I have no idea when they're shipping. What I said is, once they start shipping, cameras can take 2-4 weeks to reach their customers. So what I meant is, if thy have the cameras ready for release, but they need a few weeks to sort out the raw support, it could be a smart move to ship them and finish the firmware while the cameras are on the move, instead of delaying its shipment a few more weeks. Of course this would be risky and they'd had to deliver the firmware on time. -

Keep in mind they don't see any money until they deliver. People pay pre orders so resellers give them priority once they have cameras in store, that's between you and that reseller, it implies no ties whatsoever between you and BMD. Also, the store next door could have cameras on their shelves between you even get your preorder, and all you can do is wait, so preordering is not that great of an idea, and it doesn't fund althe development of any camera. -

If he's saying that I'd assume they're trying to get the cameras out ASAP. By the time these cameras get to the buyers, 2-4 weeks, they could have the raw update available, and all would be fine. This would actually be a smart way of not delaying the camera shipment for another few weeks. -
Not sure about Vegas, I think Final Cut Pro X deinterlaces it automatically as you import it, other packages should have a way to interpret interlaced footage upon import, or a simple deinterlace filter.

It's not the same sensor, it's been mentioned many times. It's a "similar quality" sensor, different supplier. And yeah, who would have have guessed this camera is not on par with Arri raw? What a huge disappointment :) -
Be careful, keep in mind that 50i is actually 25p in an interlaced wrapper, but you can deinterlace it easily and get perfect 25p. So you have 50p at 28mbps vs 25p at 24Mbps. Shooting 25p (50i) will give you the highest bit rate per frame. Also, shooting 50p so you can have slow motion in case you need it later is not that simple. Your shutter speed should be set differently depending on whether you're shooting for 25p or 50p, so you might be shooting yourself in the foot!

I'm sure he wasn't referring to unreleased cameras... I'd like to think that BMD's silence means all is going according to plan. It's not that uncommon to only see images once the cameras are out, they might be optimizing it till the very last day. Most people see the 4k camera as a whole new product that will be a cumbersome task for they to overcome, but it's basically the BMCC with a different sensor, should be no big deal really. Also, I learned that pre orders are for fools. From all the few things I've preordered lately, I got none before they were easily available everywhere else, what's the point? (on top of being a greater risk since you don't get to read all the reviews beforehand) -

Could be, at least a couple weeks ago, you could just walk into B&H and buy and of the two variants of the BMCC, maybe CVP is upset they can't provide the same to their clients. -

Could this mean more Canon camera models doing 1080p raw? http://www.toshiba.co.jp/about/press/2013_07/pr1601.htm

I guess no one would be surprised if the cameras were ridiculously late, but less than a month ago someone from BMD said things were looking good for a July release, so I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. A 2-4 weeks delay in a product like this would be nothing really. -
I still think Clive Owen would have made a better Bond than Daniel Craig, maybe he can still do it...

You'd be surprised how many great h264 dslr shots were keyed perfectly. Having more depth helps, but probably not as much as good lighting. Also, using something like 5DtoRGB to transcode to Prores444 helps a lot when keying DSLR footage. I read somewhere it comes with a faster controller. If it's the latest could go up to 105Mb/s. And also we don't know what's going on inside it... what if Canon gave us a compressed raw stream instead of an uncompressed raw? Sounds extremely unlikely, but so did raw in the first place. CPU and other optimizations might also help make it happen. From the moment a 50D can shoot 1080p raw, I would certainly not rule out the 70D, especially this early on. :)

I really admire Sam Mendes and Roger Deakins, but Skyfall was terrible, regardless of how much money it made, sometimes it was just plain ridiculous. I hope they watch these and avoid some of the mistakes in the next movie: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xmoIDKqfY44 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5FWfg__wKSY
