  1. I love my Cinegon!  Flares are on the red end of the spectrum, however.  Amount of flare depends on taking lens that it is paired with.
  2. Saw this at the local theater last week.  I liked it a lot.  Still not sure what it means, but it did keep my attention for 90 minutes.  The cinematography looked very good, though when projected, you could see digital artifacts like aliasing in the expected places, like the lead actress's hair, smaller curving shapes, etc.  But, yeah, this was inspiring in both method and end product.
  3. This is a must read, if you haven't already...   http://davidbordwell.net/books/poetics_10cinemascope.pdf   He talks in detail about the compositions favored by the format.
  4. A good taking lens for the 2X squeeze anamorphics will be around 50mm.  The Helios 58mm is highly recommended, but just about any will work nicely.  As mentioned above, you're going to need a Redstan clamp (or a Vid-Atlantic) to mount it to the taking lens.   http://www.ebay.com/itm/redstan-anamorphic-lens-clamps-simply-superb-quality-kowa-sankor-amd-more-/181124755639?pt=UK_Movie_Cameras&hash=item2a2be070b7   http://vid-atlantic.com/anamorphic.html   Once you've assembled the equipment, I'd be glad to give you some tips on focusing.  It can be a chore at first...
  5. Here is my latest music video:   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jw8NaQqBI3I   Only the beginning and end sections were shot anamorphically.  The green screened elements were shot with spherical lenses.
  6. That's what I hear.  Can't wait to see for myself!
  7. I have the 60D, I just ordered a GH2 and a friend has a 5Dii.  I will have to do a comparison video with the helios + iscorama and post it here as soon I can.  I'm just as curious as to which camera produces the best image as you are!
  8. Yes, the taking lens will affect the flaring of your anamorphic.  Best to avoid MC lenses if you want flares.  Old Takumar lenses produce the most dramatic flares of all the brands I've tested... but unfortunately, they are not really sturdy enough to support an anamorphic.
  9. I have the Iscorama Cinegon, which usually produces red or reddish flares.  I'm wondering which color Flare Factory would be best paired with that...  Blue to lean toward the more traditional flare color?  Or would this make an odd combination?  Better to go red all the way?
  10. I shot this last summer with the Iscorama Cinegon in front of a Nikon 50mm f/1.8 pancake, as recommended by Andrew.  The lens is sharp and sturdy, but it doesn't flare nearly as much as other lenses I've paired the Isco with...   http://vimeo.com/56795354
  11. Well I certainly love the look of those Lomos you guys have done tests with.  It definitely has that vintage science fiction look, like out of Stalker or Solaris.  Pretty difficult to mount and to handle though, right?
  12. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200894490707?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649   This is a little more reasonable... so far...
  13. http://www.ebay.com/itm/200894486604?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649   I'd like to play with a Lomo, but this is getting outside of my price range....
  14. On a 5d, 50mm is probably about as wide as you can get.  On a crop sensor, you can go to 35mm, with slight vignetting (especially if open all the way).  Certain Nikon Push-Pull type zooms can be used with the Iscorama as well, since they don't rotate to zoom (only to focus, and you're always focused to infinity.)
  15.   Yeah, ebay/paypal gives you 60 days to return, regardless of the seller's official policy...
  16.    Oh, that's right.  I'd take 24fps over the whole sensor too.   Breathing on an anamorphic is one of those "defects" like horizontal flaring and ovoid bokeh that I would consider a feature instead of a bug.  I definitely like the 2x stretch look over the 1.5x, but it does raise some difficulties in practical terms.    I'm looking forward to seeing future projects you shoot with this set.  Keep us posted...
  17. These look great!  Very cinematic.  Did you work out the kinks as far as handling and foucs go?  Are you planning on keeping the super wide ratio for a project or will you cut off the sides?  Isn't there a hack for the GH2 that allows for 4:3 recording (using the whole sensor)?
  18. Anamorphic lens on ebay:   http://www.ebay.com/itm/111004216882?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649   Could it be mounted to a GH3 or 3?     I'd love to see what this thing could do, but already over $2000...
  19. I bought a +0.5 diopter from you, sir.  And I have recommended your other products as well.
  20. Toby, I bought the book, and I'm glad I did.  It's certainly a small investment to make that may save you hundreds of dollars (or more) by helping you to find the right anamorphic and to avoid the wrong ones.  And of course, we should help support the many hours of work Andrew has put into this site, which we all benefit from...
  21. This looks great!  I've been considering switching to a GH2, and this may have just convinced me...

    Iscorama 1060 MC

The 1060 is for projection, not for shooting.  You could adapt it for shooting, but I don't imagine it would be very easy.  Probably not the best choice for rack focusing either, with a minimum focus even farther out than a regular iscorama.
