    By the way, Julian, I was wondering how long is the throw on the focus ring? Because I've shot with a 24mm f1.8 lens and it's soooo short! A 5mm turn and you go from closest focus to infinite! (perhaps I'm exaggerating a bit, but it was really hard to do a precise manual focus on the run with it).

      And add to that a Speed Booster if you're in Micro Four Thirds land (hope it gets here soon) and it becomes a real beast, f1.2 zoom lens!

Pero por lo que veo los resultados son similares a lo que pasa con la GH2, en el sentido de que las ISO más limpias son 160, 320, 640, 1250 y 2500 (incluso puede verse que la ISO 1000 es mucho más ruidosa que 2500!). Interesante, creo que anda bastante bien considerando lo chiquita que es la cámara. De todos modos, el video original que tenés subido tiene compresión y eso esconde un poco el ruido. Y por cierto, si no sos usuario Plus creo que luego de una semana sólo vas a tener la versión en 720p nomás! Ah, otra cosa: en este foro no hace falta pegar un embed code, porque te sale así como en tu posteo, mucho código raro. Deberías copiar y pegar sólo el link del video, y con eso basta para que el reproductor quede insertado en tu post y se pueda ver desde acá directamente. - Now in English :) To me it looks like the best ISOs are 160, 320, 640, 1250 y 2500, much like it happens in the GH2 (although these look cleaner, but that might have to do with the compression even in the original upload file). You can even see that ISO 1000 is a lot noisier than 2500! I think it performs really well considering the price (well, I've never complained about my GH2 performance in this department, really, as long as you remember the ISO trick). What do you guys think? I'm getting one of these no matter what RAW cameras are out there!

    Hi guys. I bought a Schneider Kreuznach Variogon 18-90mm f2 from a German eBay seller and just received this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Tamron-1-1-6-f-9-126mm-TV-Zoom-Lens-34785-/400395074585   It won't work on the Pocket, right? I'm guessing it's for 2/3 sensors but I can't find any info on the web. Also, what mount is that? I intend to return it and get the right lens, though, but I wondered how far they missed from what I originally paid for... EDIT: I checked, it's a B4 mount, and it's most probably for 2/3". I'd like to also use this lens on my GH2, and that's a no-no if I don't want to use EX-TELE (you have to enable it to use your Fujinon lenses, don't you andy lee?). The Variogon is a nice lens on the GH2 even though it vignettes a bit. I want it...

      Thanks for clearing that up. Resolution held up pretty well considering things! That's what worries me about cropping. But since I'd probably crop most of the time, do you think a 35mm would be useable by getting rid of vignetting on the sides? Thanks again!

      Hi! I'm on the verge of buying one around these days and I was wondering what your workflow is. I have a GH2 as well and was planning on using my Helios 44-M and also a 50 and a 35mm I've got, but that depends on how much they'll vignette.   I liked "Riverside", and I was wondering if you cropped there? Because the aspect ratio is 2.66. I was planning on previewing the AR through my SmallHD DP4 monitor. But if 1.66x was the stretch of the Sun Anamorphic that'd be great to take advantage of the whole image without cropping. Although it doesn't seem like it looking at the bokeh.

    I have to say that defocused-to-focused transition on almost every shot made me very uncomfortable and I had to quit watching. To me it was very distracting and a little annoying.

      I have been thinking about that since I read about that lens! I hope the price isn't up in the clouds (though it'd be understandable, perhaps a better strategy would be to make it more accesible to more people?) and that the EF Speed Booster is finally out before that lens is released.

      Glad you got that right. I was thrown a little off of the video because of the stretchiness of the footage and was thinking the numbers along the way, thinking about giving a heads up. The images were still amazing, but I'll have to watch it again once it's on the right aspect ratio! You should get more recognition around the web. I guess there are a lot of people just watching out for their own garden.

    There's the option of converting the footage into CineformRAW and keep all of the RAW goodnes while keeping the file sizes down (around 5 times smaller, close to ProRes). http://cineform.com/products/gopro-cineform-studio-premium

    Interesting plugin! Unfortunately I'm on PC, but I'd love to try it out otherwise. Also, you were the one developing a plugin to handle highlights, right? That seemed very cool. Are you still working on it?

    Yeah, you wouldn't use it very often and looks ugly, but it happened me a couple of days ago, shooting a live show, that I didn't have time to check the lights on stage with the guy in charge and set the ISO to a level that I thought by eye would be fit (and I was forced to use a f5.6 aperture on that camera!) so when I realized it was too much and I wanted to get rid of that unnecesary noise by lowering the ISO I had to stop recording, change the ISO and then start recording again. And that was the master shot. Of course, I had 4 other cameras to save me and this is a very uncommon scenario, but if there just happens to be an option this time it'd help me a lot.

    Hey, Julian: can the ISO be changed while recording? This has really bothered me a lot of times with the GH2 (I don't know if you've already mentioned this).

    Truly great news for Canon users! And if they can port this to the 600D and there are chances of it working, I'm definitely getting one. What about some 4:3 aspect ratio? That'd be ideal for anamorphic, since 3:2 will yield a 3:1 final image (which is stil a lot better than 3:55 and digital crop!).

    Download the WeTransfer ZIP file Julian uploaded (at the end of page 1) and judge for yourself. There are two original G6 clips and two GH2 clips (which in this case is hacked with the Intravenus patch, one of the best of the best out there). I think the difference in quality will only be there if you have to do a lot of grading, because the compression on the G6 footage as it is will break apart faster than on a hacked GH2 (with an intra patch, for instance), so that's to be considered. But perhaps for most of your works it'll be enough. That's something only you can evaluate.

    Yeah, that's what I was thinking. When I applied a little sharpening on the city screenshot earlier I was able to pretty much match the GH2 detail on the G6 shot. And like Julian shows it looks like -2 is indeed the sweet spot! Thanks a lot for these tests, Julian. This is quite reassuring, I think I'm getting a G6 now. :)

    I didn't download any of the older G6 videos that were first online to check this, but could it be that their softness came from shooting at 1080p50/60? Perhaps the implementation of that new frame rate at that resolution on this same GH2 sensor isn't as good as 24p, and that's the mode in which those videos were shot? Did you try this, Julian?

    I shot a music video for Cabezones last monday using my beloved Sedna and the footage looks awesome. I love that detail and fine grain. But yeah, banding on the shadows and using high ISOs sometimes gets in the way, and on many shoots the stock codec quality will be more than enough, and the improvements the G6 brings to the table are great. On the other hand, just think about the possibility of new hacks for the G6...

    This is great news. It appears that the G6 possibly performs even better than the GH2! (contrary to what earlier videos showed). I took both cityscape screenshots and put them together for detail comparison. I sharpened the G6 one a tiny little bit to match the GH2 (which brought up a little artifacting), as well as touching levels a little. GH2 on the left, G6 on the right. Hope is back.

    Come on, have you read the posts I made and watched the videos I posted as well? And all of this regarding this very thread. I know compression and I've seen many times what it does to my footage and others' as well, and the difference in detail you can see on all of the videos that had been posted in this thread between those coming from the GH2 and the G6 is quite noticeable, hacked or not hacked, and does not respond to YouTube compression but rather the way the G6 processed video images or poor encoding on the uploader's side. To see that this softness was common to all of the G6 videos online at the moment ruled out the latter cause. Now, I have just seen this thread: http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/2660-panasonic-g6-vs-gh2-video-test/  and although it isn't very good it seems to show that the level of detail is closer to the GH2 than what could be seen in this thread's older samples, and that's a relief since I love mine and would love to have a newer version with improved features. That's great news. But again, please take the time to read and watch a little bit more before throwing a pedantic "Oh really?" at me.

    I really hope you guys are right and all these technical explanations that ensure great results on paper end up making the G6 a true continuation of such great image quality, only improved.
