who would have thought the first still camera maker that introduce internal Prores HQ and Prores RAW will be the same company everybody were saying "not serious about video", and not those companies that have been in Cinema camera business for decades.
-
Of course there is. Your camera is blind to the events happening "between the frames".
-
And you only cover 3% of a second with that combination of fps and shutter speed.
-
120 fps is probably a 2x2 binned raw converted to HEIF. Nikon has done that before; their binned raws in D850 were soft, had some artifacts (only visible when zoomed in), but were clean in high ISO. Enough quality for social media. What most people forget about capturing the right moment with speay and pray is the shutter speed. If you need 1/1000s to freeze a moving subject, even at 120fps you only get 120s of one milliseconds. So you only cover 12% of a second!

But you can blame Sony for this spec wars. Now everybody is trying to deliver just higher numbers.
-
I doubt thats "internally".

Read out speed is 4ms. Slightly faster than A1.

It can't be useful for any pro project, but many pros would love to use it. At least somebody is thinking out of the box in the industry.

Apple is Coming For Y'all: Disruptive Video Production Technologies

I tested cinematic mode and it was better than I expected and instantly realized 98% of the users have no idea how to extract the most of its creative potential. -
Apple is Coming For Y'all: Disruptive Video Production Technologies

You read too much into it. Apple as corporation is addicted to high profit margins, so they have to sell expensive iPhones. But they're struggling to convince people they still need to spend $1200 on a phone, while Chinese brands with half the price can do 90% of the job. Apple is facing the same problem Japanese camera makers has been faced for years: the "good enough" dilemma. The only thing that will force me to upgrade my flagship Chinese smartphone, is a dead battery! And I'm not alone in this. And by the way, adding Prores to codec options of a phone, is not innovation. While I understand the decision, its sign of a big failure of this industry that couldn't finally implement a solution optimized for mobile devices. We have super powerful SoCs consuming only 3 watts in a hour, but have to use an ancient codec designed for ancient ASICs. -
I want to be a troll for a moment and comment RIP Sony, but I resist.

Most of us are not doing any Hollywood level project.. my mic is always 20 cm away from my camera.. how much noise may I get in that distance? However, have you checked Tascam TM-250U mic? The output is already digital in this case. You can plug it to your mac, to your iPhone, to your Android phone.. but not your mirrorless camera! https://tascam.com/us/product/tm-250u/feature

Their user base is still far bigger than Sony. Its not about Sony users selling all their gears and switch. Its about keeping their own customers who are not doing video seriously...yet.

"First camera company to drop the mechanical shutter." Thats not true. Unless you mean the only "full frame" camera without mechanical shutter. And even with that clarification, its not an innovation. Without very high speed read out, removing the mechanical shutter is just prioritizing the convenience of the producer over convenience of the customer.

Well everybody is buying Sony sensors.. its like saying there is no differences between android phones because the cpu inside all of them is made by TSMC! A1 sensor has its own downsides.. the big amount of data it handles has moved the noise floor. Z7ii is now the cleanest high resolution senor in ILC market. Top notch quality is kinda originality. There is a chance they apply some tweaks they used for Z7ii to A1 sensor. Also there is a chance its not Sony-made at all. Actually its Sony semi that is losing its uniqueness. First Quad pixel AF introduced by Omnivision, highest density sensor, best in class in-sensor HDR, dual ISO at any exposure, deep trench isolation, and many other features are all developed and delivered by Samsung.

Finally you confirmed my first comment. State competency. -
Coronavirus survey part 2 - how are work & incomes going?

Your statistics doesn't tell us what Vermont did that NYC and north east states didn't. Massachusetts is state of science believers I guess. -
If they're going the Olympus way, well a $6500 body won't save them. Olympus had that kind of flagship too. If in an industry a single company can satisfy most of customers needs, competition is not going to last long.

That was at its borders. But you intentionally remove the word "border" to make it support your Vermont narrative. -

"Temporary" was a lie. "Its just a disruption" was manipulation of public opinion. Its not a disruption anymore. Its ruining people. "Save the lives" was wishful thinking. It wouldn't work with that level of state incompetency, and it didn't, as expected. Vietnamese didn't have to live in prison and gradually become financially destroyed to save the lives of their neighbors. You still talk in a way like there is two side, the science side and denier side. Sorry, that fake duality expired many months ago. The "know what to do" side have no idea what its doing:
