IMHO the problem is that Sony isn't using specialised image sensors for this, and trying to expect cinema quality video from it. They should have used 1/1.33 sensors with a 12MP sensor count on this, and much better HDR algorithms. All the sensors should have been the same or similar sized, to ensure similar dynamic range and processing. So much great software limited by the hardware. They should have aimed to beat the iPhone 11 at dynamic range and image quality, and by a noticeable margin. This doesn't beat that, or come close.

I doubt it's there. I am surprised more people didn't make a big deal about missing it on the A7c.
-
It's looking pretty promising. I am also suddenly curious, as to why GoPro didn't use its market dominance to have custom image sensors.

Fair enough. I guess a lot of us were on the fence, wrt assuming whether the GH6 was coming or not. Panasonic could solely be blamed, due to the deafening silence, and pushing 4 Full Frame models, without a word on the GH6. Now that they have said, categorically, that the GH6 is definitely not abandoned, we should convince ourselves to believe them. Even if Olympus wasn't as believable. Maybe the GH6 will usher in the next generation of autofocus, that Panasonic so badly needs. Along with a few other features.
-
If the GH6 hasn't been released (or even officially announced), how can anyone be wrong or right about the GH6? Genuinely curious.
-
Yes. Also, I think it may also have to do with bandwidth. If it can shoot at 60fps for photo bursts, I am sure it is capable of 60p for video. I also feel, the 10-bit internal video and 9ther video features appear like some Sony licence agreement restrictions. Maybe the ProRes RAW is the simplest way to circumvent this licence agreement restriction.
-
I hope so too. That would actually be great.

"Olympus announces new firmware development to allow RAW video on the E-M1X and E-M1III." I couldn't believe what I saw. Olympus doesn't have 10-bit internal, and yet they jump to ProRed RAW via HDMI directly? Wow. Seems almost surrealistic. Now sure how most people would see this as something huge. Hopefully Olympus camera prices crash some more, before the RAW is released. https://www.43rumors.com/olympus-announces-new-firmware-development-to-allow-raw-video-on-the-e-m1x-and-e-m1iii/#disqus_thread

Hahaha. It's probably just bad translation from Japanese to English. The message is probably lost in translation

I an not sure what this Ultimate Image Quality + Creativity Vs Mobility + High Speed Is supposed to imply.
-
Excellent observation. I am also guessing, the next GH model may be slightly smaller and have much higher frame rates (4k at 120 to 240fps). The resolution may remain similar.

This is the sensor https://www.gpixel.com/products/area-scan-en/gmax3265-3-2-μm-65-mp-global-shutter-image-sensor/ It's rated at 11 stops dynamic range. Unless it does some dual gain (re-wired) magic, I am not sure how it will push image quality to better than mid range DSLRs/Mirrorless, regardless of bitrates.
-
Yes. And of so many models. Also, if the FX9 truly had lesser dynamic range than the FS7, nobody will say ut oublicly. I realized that nobody really tested the dynamic range for many cameras including the Varicam(s). Sometimes having finding in start contract to public sentiment can appear to be pretty damning.

Hahaha. Their tests always have people reaching for their swords. I liked this comment in particular, from their comments section. "Lars Gafpa Gear @gunther we executed internally the same ima test and it looks similar. Basically a 12 adc sensor can never deliver more than around 11.5 in s/n 2. Unless they use heavy nr. These are the facts. These are all imx 12 bit video mode adc sensors. Dome may look better due to heavy nr. Only varicam etc have 14 bit adc or alrxa which crossconverts two pixels simultaneously. Therefor i doubt ima test says a lot. I mean one can het a bit higher rating towards the maximum patch range by doing nr. But its ugly bit right now no mirror less cameras have 14 bit adc. Same goes for komodo. Maximum 11 stops. Still fun for a global shutter camera and ofc uses backed in highkight retention to get dr higher etc and some other tricks. I love the ima test of cined they demystify a bit all the lies. It shows that over the last 10 years no big inventions were made on a sensor level. Onoy invention is fake news." Incidentally, tests such as these, and all tests in general, also highlight how fallable dynamic range tests and company numbers really are, and that experts are grossly overrated and over paid idiots, with years of senseless experience. Also, most importantly, that the more famous an expert is, the bigger a jackass he is likely to be, and the more likely he tries to fool everyone, and is as consumed by his own BS, as the ones he attempts to fool. Somewhere the whole line of distinction is blurred.

"5599 x 4223@55fps 12bit 5599 x 4223@88fps 10bit 4K2K@120fps 10bit 1080p@300fps 10bit" It may actually have good 4k as well as good HDR for photo too.

" • Sigma is very, very unhappy with the progress of L-Mount. They are urging Panasonic to focus much more on this system • They are really thinking of an APS-C entry level system based on L-Mount • They now see Canon as biggest competitor in Video segment. " It seems Sigma is the one with rhe issue, not Panasonic. Hopefully nobody in Panasonic is encouraging Panasonic to shoot themselves in the foot.

Quote the shocker, if it's TRUE. Suicidal, if you ask me. It will take both FF and M43 down, if true.

Does it mean the ProResRAW on the Panasonic Cameras is more robust? I saw videos (including one on dpreview), saying that the codec wasn't RAW, though it is (a little?) better than the 10-bit internal codec of the Panasonics (and other cameras). Since RED has sole monopoly over RAW (including all forms of actual RAW that don't even belong to them), everyone seems to be using some form of wrapper and metadata manipulation during or after compression to circumvent the bad Patent. The temperature and exposure control in post may have to do with presets, much like a LuT. I am not sure they necessarily mean that it's better.

Ok. Fair enough. 😊👍🏼

I heard a video review somewhere saying that the 0 on the S1 still has some minor NR happening.
-
Apparently not. They should fix it via a firmware.

Hahaha, Yes. There seem to be very few, if any, Image Sensor developers experts, who actually know enough about sensors to estimate what is possible with image sensors above what we have on many cameras including the GH5 and GH5s, and many others. If the Panasonic GH6 had similar Dynamic Range to the S1/S5/S5 for video and stills, had 14-bit Photo with FF comparable exposure latitude (or atleast comparable with APS-C flagships) and had a better pricing (about $1500), that alone with make it comparable with most cameras in the APS-C and FF market. But Panasonic doesn't do that, in terms of pricing, then yes 4k at 120fps and above and 6k at atleast 60fps and above would allow a $2000 price and double of that would seem fair at $2500. Though, I feel Panasonic is not pushing enough tech for K43, and just randomly buying sensors off the shelf, without even tweaking the circuitry. Just having DRAM would atleast double the readout speed (of the present 60fps at full res), if not quadruple it. And having Native ISOs set at ISO400 and ISO6400, along with 14-bit RAW would really help with noise and to push exposure latitude and also improve dynamic range (usable). Panasonic had been releasing some crappy cameras lately like the G100. Also it didn't advertise enough when it had the GX80, G7 and so many 9ther capable 4k cameras. IMHO they also need to Get Rid of their Advertising Agency, globally, and find someojenway more capable.

Olympus is a dead camera company. Its surprisingly that they survived so long, despite the extremely high levels of corruption (unaccounted for spending and money laundering). Maybe their superb engineers pushed their downfall by a few years. Because it's a Dead Company, for cameras, it has almost nothing to lose. They don't really make Cinema Cameras and by the time their own stocks sell, they would just concentrate on their other divisions (medicial imaging and other stuff). Panasonic, fortunately or unfortunately isn't in the same boat. It had a cinema line, lots of point and shoot models, 2 clear sensor size ILC lineup, and many other camera models within its imaging division. The M43 lineup being packed up, would mean that Panasonic isn't very serious about its ILC lineup. And that, if they can pack up the M43 lineup, there is a great chance that the LMount van also pack up. And in Way less than 10 years. Panasonic's sales seem to be increasing, and the majority are obviously Not from their L-Mount. So the M43 lineup not doing well, can not be the reason. Also, Unlike Olympus, Panasonic did not have Billions of Dollars MISSING from their company. I hope that there is a GH6. Which would assure M43 and All Panasonic users that Panasonic didn't abandon its users, Well Before the whole Olympus fiasco happened. It takes atleast a few years 2-5), to plan and develop the next camera. If the GH6 is released and priced at $,2500, it would be a Monumental Disaster. People will find it difficult to justify pricing a M43 sensor camera higher than a FF sensor camera. Especially if it doesn't have RAW video. Also, I doubt whether it can offer image quality as high as an XT3 or XT4, without pushing the bit depth to 14-bit, having Dual ISO (and the second one set pretty high) and improving the overall sensor quality. IMHO, the problem with M43's image quality is more an issue with Panasonic not working hard enough on the sensor development, than one solely due to Physics or some other rubbish attributed to the M43 sensor size. Plus the M43 sensor size itself is a misnomer, with Panasonic having varying sensor sizes, the majority of which are smaller than 17.3x13mm. Even the GH5s' sensor is wider in breadth, but much narrower in height, and that's why its pixels are much smaller than they should be, and its sensor size is overall smaller than the GH5. Maybe it's high time Panasonic start planning their imaging lineup with a lot more feedback from users. They did that with the GH5, and didn't do that with the GH5s (they listened to some former BBC fuddy duddies), and that is why rahe GH5s was a damp squib. And similar things happened with many other models of theirs, after the GH5.

Fuji GFX100 Review – the ‘mini Alexa 65’ goes to a Formula One test session

what profile did you shoot it in? The lens has an interesting character. I am guess, all this was internal?
