  1. Actually there is a theoretical limit of bit depth with dynamic range. Meaning that a camera with 12 bit will have 12 stops (which isn't true for the GH5 with its 13 approx stops). Maybe if Panasonic pushes it to 14-bit, highlight and shadow recovery could improve.
  2. I realised after @IronFilm pointed it out. Quite an embarassing gaffe.
  3. It's SCARY that Corporates and Not Authors, have been pushing Copyrights to a Century and beyond. Copyright should only exist for a few years (10-20) post the authors death. After that its just corporate terrorism. Also it's scary how corporates and the big artists caught for copyright theft aren't punished more severely.
  4. Thanks for sharing this. It would be interesting to see whether it would allow greater detail or less micro blocking when zoomed it. Sometime ago, there was a theory about 8-bit 4k 4-2-0 having the colour depth of 12-bit 4-2-2 (or something of that type), when downchaled for resolution and then upscaled for bit depth. I tested it on DaVinci with my friend, but I am not sure whether it held up better for grading or made any any difference whatsoever. The link doesn't seem to open or its extremely slow.
  5. Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha I suddenly realised that I never thought about it ???
  6. Check his channel via this video. This has stme great cinematography and editing and very impressive sound design: About that 2016-17 Panasonic-shot film, I have absolutely no idea about.
  7. I guess he's moved to the Sony A Series from Panasonic. He was baking the colours into the Panasonic G7, on the last shoot we heard about (in 2016-17). He's been doing travel videos, from what I can guess.
  8. I love Panasonic's Cameras. I had to choose between the Canon 7D and the Panasonic GH2, and I chose the GH2. Tried a couple of hacks and loved the video quality. I saw Andrew's famous B&W video with the ISO at 12800, and the whole thing seemed so surreal. I believe Panasonic's marketing and supply chain didn't push the GH2 enough, otherwise it would have been a lot more popular, on Indie Films, both shorts and features. I then got a GX85 and GH5. The GX85 is amazing for the size and great for travel, and the GH5 was atleast 1-2 years ahead of its time, when it released. I like the bright and portable lenses of the M43, most of all, I guess. I also use a Samsung S7 (I may buy an S11/S20, if it has a great camera) since its highly portable, and while I carry ILCs when I travel, I don't really like the idea of changing lenses or opening and removing cameras from bags, when I am travelling. Plus I tried a few softwares for upressing the 12MP photos to 48MP and they seem pretty promising. The final quality seems in between Instagram and ILC quality. I guess in 2020, if I find something that does High Res photos well (16MP+) and 6k on a smartphone, I may actually use a smartphone, for photo and video, even more. I wish Blackmagic would push RAW into a proper DSLR/Mirrorless kind of body, with way better battery, maybe IBIS and general ease of use, right out of the box. I would like to pick up something like that too.
  9. I agree. DFD is absolute rubbish, especially with the lack of a ToF and Laser Focus. It can never replace PDAF, and in video the gap is even more apparent. I also want atleast another stop and a half of dynamic range, in video. Built-in Electronic ND would be superb too.
  10. You may be right. The GH6 may do either 6k or 8k. I am guessing it would be 6k, because 8k may be too large a jump (too much of processing power and also may lose out on much better low light). Hopefully 4k at 120fps too. Though I wonder how good or bad the rolling shutter would be.
  11. Hahaha. Sorry TYPO. I Edited that. The predictive text function is weird on my phone. Earlier everything was about sex, and now, luckily its some random word.
  12. 'High-sensitivity', 'low power consumption' and 'variable-speed shutter function', seem to be the the take away here. So I guess we should expect much better low light, lots of new functions necessary in low power consumption devices like smartphones, some manner of HDR for photo (and video?) like on smartphones. Interesting. Though it doesn't seem to have 14-bit RAW photo, which I was hoping M43 moves towards.
  13. Panasonic not making imaging sensors doesn't mean much. Their imaging sensors weren't exactly path breaking and not even sufficient for their own ILCs (probably both in quality and in production numbers). The same can probably be said for their other semi conductor innovations. It's a good idea that they are cutting their losses. They should focus on developing their M43 and L-mount better, with better network and after sales and listen to customers. IMHO, the GH5 and Pansonic's M43 cameras could have done a lot better (in terms of sales), if it targetted indie filmmakers and film students more specifically, since video prowess has always being their forté.
  14. In the imaging sensor division, Samsung is eating into Sony's marketshare. And also probably gaining market share from other players. That's why Sony is suddenly over enthusiastic in announcing a sensor that may not even be available until next year (the IMX686). I am guessing that Panasonic probably left out the patent (of the organic sensor) in the sale of its semiconductor business (I am only guessing), since that seems like the only thing they really innovated on, in the last 5-10 years. Processors and SoCs are available at very low prices by hundreds of companies, and they can be used for anything from Washing Machines to Drone. And one doesn't have to waste millions on entire departments for it. Samsung shut down its Mongoose Custom Core division a few weeks ago, since those cores were slowing down it's own SoCs, and wasting $Billions in R&D. The fact that an agreement beteren Synopsys, Arm, and Samsung Foundry was signed for accelating the next generation(s) of ARM based processors, probably means that Samsung realised that the Mongoose R&D was a monumental waste of money and no real gains were being made, by having it in existence. Similarly, Panasonic also needs about 1$Billion in losses to make good, and getting rid of all loss making divisions is a good idea.
  15. https://siliconangle.com/2019/11/28/panasonic-sells-loss-making-chip-business-nuvoton-250m-deal/ "Panasonic Corp. today said that it has inked a $250 million deal to sell its semiconductor business to Nuvoton Technology Corp., a Taiwanese chipmaker that supplies silicon for Dell Technologies Inc. and other major tech firms. The transaction has several components. Panasonic is offloading its Panasonic Semiconductor Solutions group, the unit’s intellectual property and its 49% stake in a joint venture that operates three Japanese chip fabrication facilities. Nuvoton is also buying out the stake of the joint venture’s other owner, Israel-based Tower Semiconductor Ltd., for an undisclosed sum not included in the deal’s $250 million price tag. Panasonic Semiconductor Solutions is best known as a maker of power management chips. Its products are used to control the flow of electricity inside mobile devices, electric cars and other systems. The unit also offers a variety of other integrated circuits including image sensors for cameras, though some of those secondary product lines were sold off in a separate deal earlier this year. " Basically Panasonic is selling the last of its semi conductor business and the JV with TowerJazz is history. It was hardly successful anyway, and their market share was tiny, at best. Plus the mythical organic sensor took way too long to make, and even now it's full potential is a mystery. It was too long in the pipeline. Panasonic could just do better by just designing sensors and fabricating them from Sony.
  16. This entire thread was just political outburts. It clearly had nothing to do with filmmaking or videography, even remotely. It's probably on the lines of the spamming which was happening with fake IDs (minus the fake IDs). It needs to be sent to trash/deleted.
  17. I am not American, and I think Trump says the strangest things. But, he is arguably the most successful US president of all time. I may not be a Trump fan, but I prefer him over both the Clintons, Obama and many others. Obama getting the Nobel for farting in his dreams was way more shady than anything else. EVER. The US has been heading for a financial collapse for the last few years (since the Dollar Store and Wallmark rise). Now China is literally taking away millions of US jobs and Fortune 500 is inundated with Chinese Companies. Apple would have been relegated to 4th or 5th position in smartphone sales, if the US wasnt doing all the shady stuff it is (to be fair, US Trade and IP Laws have been anything but fair since they were created). Also TikTok and other chinese tech startups are going to be displacing Twitter and Facebook (even though it doesn't do similar things to either) very soon. That's why Google is planning a TikTok ban soon (if it hadn't already). Europe and the US are heading for both economic and cultural collapse. The only question, I guess, is how quickly.
  18. I don't know whether it is a sign of IP Institutions and Courts being fallible or corrupt in the United States. Sad, either ways. They're no better than China or even a banana republic.
  19. @Emanuele was clearly trolling on this post. Like insanely. Incessantly. Mindlessly. Annoyingly. Suddenly I am wondering whether i should also keep away from eoshd.com altogether or just use it much lesser.
  20. Hopefully, we finally have something that resolves as much detail as the 1inch 20MP sensors.
  21. Maybe you could share footage to show what you're trying to articulate.
  22. The Netflix Certification, and this, should push sales atleast 5 fold, if not more. https://***URL not allowed***/panasonic-s1h-lab-test-dynamic-range-and-rolling-shutter-results/ Class leading dynamic range. Or way beyond any other ILC hybrid out there.
  23. I may disagree with your exalted praise of Red and the shocking personal actions and stories about Jim. But this film trailer you shared, is so hilarious and well written. I would love to see the full film. Is it online somewhere (VoD, youtube etc)?.
