  1. I noticed Neumann's post is dated November 22nd. I guess it may be too quick to churn out a short film with a robot and a story in it, so quickly. Unless it's like a crazy 48hour short film competition or something. January 15th-31st seems more like the date for the release and subsequent product launch.
  2. Does anyone have any idea, what time the Panasonic event is at?
  3. It happens with most smartphone cameras since they only compensate for pitch and roll, and not for the yaw axis.
  4. 43rumors.com seem to be blowing up right now with discussions of an ISO 10,2400 limit apparently on the GH5s. Even if it were only usable upto ISO12800, that would be pretty huge. Also, apparently discussions on improvement in dynamic range too. 15th December is here and I guess we just have to watch the official announcements.
  5. I agree. Until the S6 and S7, Samsung Cameras seemed way above the competition. Since then, they've slowed down. Samsung should consciously avoid completing with iPhones. That's usually aiming low. Except perhaps the iPhone X which had seen a huge improvement in photo and video. Though, TBO, only mildly better than the Note 8. I hope Samsung makes one version of the S9 Specifically for Professionals who use the phone for photo and video (Vloggers, Smartphone Filmmakers and people who use smartphones for photos for blogs and making content). I am also hoping for a superb new sensor (apart from improved processing) to beat the competition by a noticeable margin. Super long battery, extra long battery life and super fast file transfer (comparison with the fastest USB version would be great) would be great additions.
  6. It's curious how any kind of tech argument in photo and video nowadays, cannot go without someone randomly mentioning the iPhone as the gold standard in everything, regardless of the apples to apples context. It's a mix of trolling and a some kind of grandiose freudian disillusion. We had a producer, on a project, once mention, how she could take better photos with her iPhone than the Canon 5D ii/iii. She was, obviously, the butt of all private jokes for the longest. We even discuss her nowadays when some other iPhone possessing cretin comes up with another ludicrous argument. I guess Apple should be thanked for their contribution to modern memes. 10bit video in smartphones may actually be amazing. And it is indeed strange how slow developments in ILCs have been, in comparison to smartphones. 10bit video does indeed sound terribly exciting.
  7. Aaah. Thanks for pointing it out. I have been reading stuff in interludes for the longest. They should hurry up with the release. 15th December is too far.
  8. Wow. What a superb analysis. Dude you're a detective first and filmmaker later. Luke is using an expensive lens because Panasonic most likely has a PL mount for their low light cinema GH camera, so that it does not eat into EVA's customer base. Aldo the cinema one may thus have lousy autofocus.
  9. More like 11.3 stops. But closer to 7-8 for video and maybe 10 stops or less for usable dybamic range for photo. Which TBO is reasonable because non-HDR monitors are like 6-7 stops anyway. https://www.dxomark.com/Cameras/Panasonic/Lumix-DMC-GH2 The GH4 and GH5 have very similar video dybamic range. But, apparently the GH5 has more Usable Dynamic Range (less noise in the highlights and shadows, and better at grading).
  10. I guess you're planning to have a Livestream/ Video Podcast, and take feedback on things?
  11. Sorry, my bad: https://www.androidpit.com/in-depth-lg-v30-perfect-video-smartphone Read the portion that says, "LG’s Korean camera specialists confirmed with us that the LG V30 takes log videos specifically in 8-bit 4:2:0. Am I just about to lose you?". Yes, I noticed in many test videos online that the Dynamic Range is noticeably lesser than other flagship, and that the stabilization is also disappointing. Very disappointing indeed.
  12. Incorrectly Researched Article. Seems shoddy heresay at best. I read an article, much after this somewhere, where LG Specifically CONFIRMED that the Log, like all other video is limited to 8-bit 4-2-0. I wonder why it appears so soft. Is sharpness fialled down to 0 or -5 (Log)?
  13. We shot a short film on a Panasonic GX85 (apart from a Nikon D5200). Thw colours weren't matched in post. Not really something I would wanna share. I will share another film or episode I shot on the GX85, hopefully soon.
  14. The iPhone WILL Do commercial (Bentley?) work because photographers and videographers are fallible and corruptible. And Apple has in a new offshore in Jersey stashed hundreds of biliions of dollars from US tax authorities, which it is willing to pay judges, photographers and videographers, and various other individuals. The V30 followed this when it had a face-off with a RED. Though the level of shamelessly is nowhere near the limit iPhone indulges in.
  15. I am curious. Why haven't you guys thought of hacking Panasonic Cameras for producing better video quality, since they already seem more geared for video than Canon. Especally the Mid Range ILCs of Panasonic.
  16. "Journalism has become so polarised. Right-wing or left-wing? 99% of the the debate happens in an extreme bubble on one side or the other." Absolutely Incorrect. 90-99% of the Main Stream Media is Left (/Libertarian) Controlled and Funded. Therefore the Majority of Right (/Conservatice) Wing Media is relegated to Alternative News Streams and/ or channels with high viewerships but very uninspiring monetary models. Also a Leftist Reporter or Documentary Filmmaker saying it was an effort was exaggerating the effort only 1000 times.
  17. I saw this one on gsmarena.com and the V30 did very well. Unlike the iPhone vs the RED and the Alexa comparisons where the iPhone blew the highlights, had crushed shadows, and had over saturated colours apart from the noise reduction that destroyed all the remaining detail. Also except for the clouds appearing pink or purple in some shots, the V30 grading was admirable. This is from the Exynos 8890 specifications, which does duty on the Note 8. I am wondering whether it an be pushed for HDR 4k and higher colour depth: "The Exynos 8895 makes the multimedia experience far more entertaining with the advanced MFC (Multi-Format Codec). It supports recording and playback of video content at a maximum resolution of 4K UHD at 120fps with the latest video codecs, including HEVC(H.265), H.264, and VP9." http://www.samsung.com/semiconductor/minisite/Exynos/Solution/MobileProcessor/Exynos_9_Series_8895.html VP9 is actually a very good Free Codec (H265 is a poorly priced and ambiguously licenced codec, which is the Main reason for its lack of broader usage. Like a unfair monopoly by the consortium that created it). The Exynos ISP seems way more promising than its Snapdragon version. I am guessing if any processor can pull off 4-2-2, it will be the Exynos 8890. Where are the Magic Lantern guys when you need them? ;-)
  18. What you're asking is unreasonable by any yardstick. Why would Panasonic or anyone else in the Camera or any other industry give you too end features at low end ILC or mid-range Mirrorless or camera prices. It's like demanding C300ii features at 800D prices. The only thing I think may be a possibility is that Panasonic should allow users in the GX85 range buy ($99?) Cineline D and other G85 type of features IF they can be implemented via firmware. Though Vlog would not come within that ambit, obviously. And no 180fps or even 96fps.
  19. TBO I thought about it, and if an H264 originally low Bitrate Canon 5D Mark ii can be hacked for shooting RAW video, 10-bit should be something that can ideally be enabled by a hack on smartphones too. High Bitrate and RAW capture should be the giveaways of such a possibility. I guess there must be some worthy hackers who could test this. Though it may require writing code from scratch for the 10-bit video to be enabled. Or someone hacking it with a format that already exists (could something like VP9 also be used to shoot?). I am sure there is a reasonably large market for something like this. And once people show the benefits of shooting on 10-bit on a smartphone, more users will join in.
  20. You're actually right. LG has mentioned 10-bit so many times, and wouldn't show off about 10-bit photo on a smartphone (it would be embarassing). The only question is whether the 50mbps video bitrate (correct me if I am wrong about the bitrate), would be sufficient for 10-bit video. I hope a 100-200 mbps video firmware update is on the way. I believe it does H265/HEVC, so it should be suffient for 10-bit video (it may be in GH5 territory in some ways). Hoping LG add a firmware. And also improves the super jittery video with better stabilization. It may actually become the first serious smartphone for filmmaking.
  21. I saw that teardown video yesterday/last night. 10-bit Processor for photo he said (not sure he said 10-bit processor for video).
  22. They can call their security system whatever they want, but it isn't better than Samsung or anyone else. It merely Integrates the Retinal Scanning wih Face Recognition, so their miss rate has been greatly reduced. But, as the presentation itself pointed out, it is Far From Perfect (/far from great). I have had a few iPhones, and while they are good, they are in no way far better than Android (Mostly Samsung). Just because it's called Retina Display means nothing. And the top end iPhone X too doesn't even have QHD resolution. And I doubt whether it will beat the 1200 nits brightness of the Note 8 (which nay be great as a flash for taking pics). Or the display in any way. I am hoping someone makes a 4k 10-bit 4-2-2 shooting smartphone that doesn't heat up after 5 mins; a Smartphone with an 24mm (or wider without fisheye), 50mm and 100mm equivalent zoom range (all at f1.8); and one that has like a proper 12bit RAW shooting mode that does atleast 15fps at 12MP resolution or higher. All 3 would make this an IDEAL smart phone that replaces most cameras for me. $999 is only fine if it doesnt slow down after a year. It should last a while atleast.
  23. I don't know if anyone saw the presentation, but this guy went on and on about how absolutely amazing the face recognition was, how neither masks nor face models (clay/ silicone?) could fool it, how they had like 1 billion faces scanned etc etc. And then he tried using his face to unlock the phone ... And it FAILED. Hahahahahahahahaha He went ahead and punched in a security code number in, and pretended nothing happened.
  24. It's Incorrect. 5. HDR recording and playback "... The camera now captures the 1.07 billion colors that the HDR-10 standard requires, and the V30's flexible OLED display with its deep blacks just got certified by Netflix for HDR streaming, joining the G6 and Xperia XZ Premium as the only two other phones that can stream movies and TV series from Netflix shot with this rich color format in their full bloom." The guy writing the article has taken the Netflix Standard for Broadcast and mixed it up with the Camera Recording capabilities of the V30. The LG V30 may be certified for HDR and Dolby Vision (for its Screen and Headphone Output), but that is solely for the Screen (and audio output via the headphone out) and Not for is recording capabilities. I am guessing that's limited to 8-bit 4-2-0. And the Log is not a true log.
  25. Where did you read that it does 10-bit HDR? I read somewhere that it claims to do 11stops of dynamic range (for video?), though I am guessing all that can only be judged after the first retail samples hit stores. Also the Bitrate appears pretty low for log. I wonder if a smart phone processor can handle 4-2-2 in 8-bit. Cinema 4k App and Filmic Pro both have Log profiles and options for higher bitrate. But the quality of their log is mostly limited by the hardware on phones. The FilmPro Log starts falling apart very quickly if one pushes the flat profile even a little bit. It starts posterising.
