A lot of people find smartphone photography more than convenient for most situations where they cannot lug around heavy equipment, or carry anything that doesn't fit in their jeans pockets. Also, DXO Mark Labs and so many other reviewer sites seem to find smartphone photos excellent, especially compared to their quality less than 5 years back. Things seem to have improved substantially, in almost every area, where it was previously lacking. Therefore I am curious, as to How a Smartphone would hold up to a Point and Shoot, with the Same Sensor Size (1/2.3 Inch Sensor or 1/2.5 Inch Sensor), and Same Resolution (12MP). One comparison could be the Google Pixel (or the HTC U11) vs the Panasonic FZ200. Or any other point and shoot (bridge camera etc etc), of the Same Sensor Size and Resolution. Does anyone have a point and shoot of such a specification (or have access to a store that has such type of camera) and a smartphone that does great photos (in the specification mentioned above) to do such a comparison? I am sure the results would be pretty interesting.

Aren't these much older pics? I think there appear to be a few more generations of photos after these. I see an improvement in the photo quality. Unfortunately, the photos uploaded lately all mostly seem to be low res ones. I hope they change that. I think these are the pics from the latest hardware and software version: They look pretty promising. TBO, though, I wonder how many bits of RAW is actually even possible with a tiny smartphone sized camera sensor (I am guessing most are limited to 10-bit RAW). Also, it seems unlikely that the photo stitching with RAW photos. It may require some insane levels of processing to stitch togetheranything more than 8-bit JPEGS. I wonder if a few (3-5?) Snapdragon 835 type processors would be able to handle stitching together upto 10 RAW photos from 10 cameras into a single one, and do a good job of creating a single image exceeding anything else coming out of a smartphone?

I also feel that the l16 Light Camera is such a marvellous feat of both imagination as well as engineering. It is also arguably, one of the most difficult projects in photography in recent years. Lytro was great, but their final image was tiny in MP size. Even after their V2.0. Most important of all, this thing is TINY. Most DSLRs and even DSLMs can't really be put in most pockets. Especially with a (zoom) lens. I am very curious to Full Res photos from this. Since a few have already already been shipped, I hope owners (aren't under any kind of curious confidentiality agreement and) share their photos with the general public and let everyone see how good this thing is. I wonder if the processor can handle all the processing power needed to handle this magnitude of processing from a fat smartphone sized device. Also, I hope it trickles into Samsung and iPhone's Flagship phones soon.

Wow. No Working Prototype, No clarity on what exactly it is, and no CGI kind of graphics (ala Craft Camera) to help us get a vague idea of what we will be holding in our hands, either. So basically, just give us $1500, and we will tell you what it is, WHEN we actually make it. I would say this thing has iPhone written all over it. Hahaha

What exactly does the capture mean and how can someone unfamiliar with the process do it? Your answer may expedite the process and maybe inspire a layman to help. While I have hacked the GH2 and the GX85 after your instructions, I am not sure what you mean by the 'capture' reference. Maybe if you outline it more easily, it could help with the good work.

Aaah ok. Am still keeping my fingers crossed. I just got back from a trip without a camera. But I think the colors on the GX85 would make a great VLog. Thanks for the prompt reply. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

It's Monday tomorrow and even though I don't have my GX85 on me, I am waiting for the VLOG on it. I think the colour science would make it great.

I guess it all depends. On so many factors. Do you have the time to multi-task? Everyone works at a different pace. I feel I can, on an average, do things at a much faster pace than the average person. And yet, there are many things I do slowly, because either I like to take my time doing doing them, or I am genuinely slow at those particular taste. So I should, maybe assign those take to someone else, or improve my skills and speed doing them. The first seems easier as ab option. While I have learnt how to play a fee instruments and can carry a tune, I know Absolutely Nothing about composino music. I am genuinely interested in it, but right now, trying that, may be a bad option. I should only indulge in it when time is a luxury and when I can find myself some easy and quick instructions/ instructor. I love writing, first and foremost, and I have realized that I am pretty decent at cinematography too. But when you direct your film, you shouldn't get too tied down with too many other distractions. Also and lot of directors realise that cinematography is something they do only till such time as they find a great cinematographer (ala Nolan and Wally Phister). Filmmaking is a group effort, at the end of the day. And filmmaking is a LOT more about management skills, that creativity. You have to be able to get work out of people, in completely the way you imagined things. And since the director leads a film, he is actually the de facto head of the management team.

Hi, I am wondering who all this group are in London, and whether you'd be interested in having a meetup and maybe thinking of collaborating on a short film, to be written and executed on a very quick line. Looking forward to shooting something interesting.

I hacked my GH2. And one could do a LOT with the Bitrate and even make a fee lines of your Own Code. It was amazing. I felt if we pushed it any further, we would have a 4-2-2 8-bit version of AVCHD on it. Hahaha.

If you said a budget, then it might help people say specific mics. I agree. The further a mic is from camera, the worse the sound.

I could be wrong but I tried changing setting in the camera for storing Custom settings, and I noticed that, maybe, Panasonic has changed something. Cause while the camera does engage CinelikeD, the message comes differently, I think, now. Maybe it still happens, just that the handshake doesn't yield the same results (solely in terms of message on the browser). But everything does seem go happen.

I think I have V2.3 somewhere. Someone with a GH4 would have to check whether for older firmware can be brought back (installed, once V2.4). Maybe that may be the way to get VLog to work on non GH series cameras.

I may have a copy of the old GH4 Firmware. I have attached Screenshots of the Video I shot with CinelikeD and the Ultra Contrast Filter. White Balance is terribly off, I think.

I am guessing one would require the App end and the older firmware on the GH4, to be able to successfully push the Vlog in. Is this the App end? Have there been any firmware updates to the GH4 firmware after that glitch (with the App turning on the VLog shooting? ). Interesting. I will upload some shots from yesterday that I took (I am not sure about the exposure being under or over). I used the Tiffin Ultra Contrast 3 Filter, and the image almost looks like VLog. Though I am guessing it won't be easy to get the colours perfectly right, after this.

Yes. Could you try a test with underexposing by 1/3rd and 1/2 a stop and comparing the results. Thanks in advance.

Nice video. Though the highlights are mildly clipped. Could you share your settings? Suddenly I feel this forum may be the perfect place to share the perfect settings for CinelikeD on the Panasonic GX85. I am guessing that instead of exposing 1/2 stop undef, maybe we expose somethinglike 1/3rd stop under. Cause CinelikeD brings life back in the shadows, seriously lifting detail there.

This may actually take away a lot of clients from the Black Magic cameras. The price point and RAW make it a formidable camera for low budget indies. Until the All-I codec is released it may have lesser use elsewhere. I am guessing, this will also actually eat into the C300 's Market.

Hahaha. It's one of those Soliloquy thoughts of yours, Andrew. You should leave those outside the realm of your great blog (or posts here). Because the whole world is bipolar, we must not commit anything (by word or otherwise), when we are too happy or too sad (or have a sudden change of heart). Regardless, I guess such posts outline the fact that were all human, at the end of the day, and, that, great bloggers, too, have their confused human moments. Have a great mid-week :-)

I agree on this too. Since Cinelike D actually brightens the Shadows a lot more than the highlights, it may be a good idea to bring down the highlights.

And according to DXO Mark Labs the GX85/80 has better low light and better dynamic range than the G85/80, even though both have the same sensor and (maybe) the same processor. I feel VLog is hidden somewhere in there too. I wish Panasonic would just take $99 and give it to GX85/80 users.
