  1. My apologies. I obviously left out some bits of the discussion on this thread. Btw, excellent work BTM_Pix.
  2. It happened initially. I listened to Jonpais' instructions and saved the settings to custom 1 and custom 2. And it works like a breeze. Yes, you can. I did. Like I mentioned, I took Jonpais' advice and I don't have to use my smartphone for engaging CinelikeD anymore.
  3. I tried it, and it seemed a little difficult at first, but in the end, I realised the instructions made it very simple. My observations: 1. Cineline D is actually Pretty Flat. Not very, but about 1/2 to 1 stop more Dynamic Range than Natural. Also, the shadows seem to benefit more than the highlights. 2. The Name of the Profile (Cinelike V, just like Natural, Portrait etc) doesn't appear when it is engaged (it means Blank, though the various values of colour, etc can be changed or adjusted). 3. Focusing and other buttons on the camera itself become difficult to engage. As in, they cannot be engaged, except through app (?). EDIT: Fixed Pattern Noise is HUGE in Natural, in comparison with Cinelike D. And, Cinelike D seems very promising for grading.
  4. Wow. You Deserve an Award of some sort. This is even Bigger than the GH2 hack MUCH BIGGER !!!
  5. Cinelike D on the GX80/85 and the G80/85 should not be compared with that on the G7, GH4 and others. Those cameras still have the older colours of Panasonic, and therefore it would befit GX80/85 users a LOT more. IMHO the mic-in and Cinelike Profiles were the Only shortcomings of the GX80/85. One of those being addressed is not bad.
  6. I agree completely on the Cinelike Profiles and the Mic-in. I think Panasonic made a mistake with those two, considering the Huge difference in form factor and fully articulating screen (apart form weather sealing and the next generation of the IBIS). Bad assumptions on the part of the design team. I actually love the screen on the GX85. Because it's easier for Guerilla Shooting. The fully articulating screen seems to draw too much attention. Also the Lumix App is a breeze for Guerilla shooting. I use it to shoot at places with the camera dangling around my neck like a dead goose. Btw, I got a New Camera from Diamond Camera in Adelaide. My original GX85 camera was a nightmare for the 6-8 months that I had it. First some issues with the sensor with vertical lines across the LCD and Viewfinder. It came back from Repairs and the Services guys were dilettantes who installed the replacement aensor in such a way, that the camera was unable to focus (in autofocus). Therefore I was unable to shoot with my Panasonic Lenses. After some email exhanges with Diamonds Cameras, I sent it back to Australia and Diamonds Camera sent me a brand new camera as a replacement. What a relief.
  7. I wish someone would hack the Mavic to push bitrate on the thing to about 100 mbps, IF not more. That would effectively improve the whole artefacts and curious noise. The 1/2.3 sensor is actually a pretty capable one. It just need more data. Especially for someone that recording landscape videos, with moving leaves and grass and water, the bitrate has to be a lot hight higher than 60 mbps for 4k.
  8. A lot of people think its a Point-and-Shoot. So, it goes to a lot of places where ILCs aren't allowed. I have even shot it at places where one needs permissions (guerilla shooting), by using the Panasonic Lumix App. I am wondering whether the 20mm f/1.7 would be a nice addition (though I am very happy with the 25mm f/1.7, right now, along with the tiny almost pancake kind of zoom, the 12-32mm). I doubt anything that even remotely resembles a DSLR would be allowed in most of these places.
  9. Microsoft should stop work on everything else, and sort out Windows 10 first. It had more bugs than a graveyard. Seriously !!!
  10. If the Rolling shutter issues are sorted, that would be great. What about the colour depth and picture quality. I would love to see some comparisons between this and the pics coming out of the Nikon and Canon Flagships. Also, if they have nailed it for Electronic Shutter, then it would be the single most significant development, since the creation of mirrorless. Because, the noise, the vibration etc etc are actually handicaps in many ways.
  11. Thank you. For me, it seems like one of the best ideas to come out of IndieGogo (or any other Crowdfunding platform), for Indie Filmmakers (Musicians, and anyone looking for Sound Recording). And, that thing has so many great features and accessories. I was planning to pick up a few myself, but I wasn't sure about them delivering it here (and hence service and customer care issues). Eagerly looking forward to your review.
  12. I realise that 2 things Panasonic needs to have to catch up with Sony needs to include PDAF and this new DRAM concept ("stacked back illuminated structure with integral memory"), which pushes sensor focus and speed considerably. Also higher voltage and maybe resistence, which helps with improving sensor designs. They need to layer their sensor far more extensively. And Panasonic really needs to push Tower jazz to push sensor design improvements. The good bit is that while Sony makes the sensor for all smartphones, only 1 of its smartphones comes within the top 5 smartphone cameras top 5 ranking. So sensor and product quality haven't been as well integrated. This is usually where the other manufacturers crash into the Sony Party. Panasonic needs to gate crash both parties. Right now it mostly had the cost advantage. But it can also have other advantages. Just checked the Comments on Imaging-Resource.com and I came across this: "AUTO/Electronic Shutter:*7*8*9 Continuous shooting: Hi: max. 20 fps Mid: max. 10fps Lo: max. 5 fps Mechanical Shutter: Continuous shooting: Hi: max. 5 fps Mid: max. 5fps Lo: max. 2.5 fps" The 20fps headlines, therefore seem like click-bait. Especially if the quality of the electronic shutter isn't the same as a mechanical shutter.
  13. This Camera is SOLET made to take on the Nikon D5 and the Canon 1DX range. Videos feature seem very disappointing (despite the headphone and mic jacks). Also Max had a video with the 20fps burst, and the autofocus was quite impressive. I guess they have been quoting to gatecrash the sports and wildlife category for a while, and this one fits that market perfectly. Arguably even better than either Nikon or Canon.
  14. Could you please share your experience with the Instamic. I love the whole concept and I am very curious to know how well they have been able to implement it. Could you make a separate post on that perhaps. Some of those videos are there in this thread itself.
  15. You've probably not checked out Jase's videos shot on the GX85/80. He has some of the best work shot on the GX85 right now.
  16. I used to read Cinema5D articles quite regularly, previously. But ever since their bluff has been called about their obviously biased reviews, I avoid them like the plague.
  17. Apparently the new AF system is quite complicated. Panasonic should document everything more clearly and make a few more videos, explicitly explaining how to deal with AF.
  18. This video (due to the short clip lengths and lack of any real focus transition), could have been shot on a manual focus lens with fixed focus (without transitioning between shots). Nice edit, btw and nice shots too. The GH5 seems to have pretty decent AF. And for something extraordinary, do it yourself via manual focus. I am looking forward to a lot more video samples from the GH5. I got a chance to play around with it briefly. It has way too many features. And most of them are really stellar.
  19. A lot of people including Andrew have bene asking that Panasonic make a lower Resolution Sensor optimised for low light, keeping the pixel count low. Apparently Panasonic conveyed this brief to Sony and Voila !!! I just noticed this from [bleeeeh] and checked it on the Sony Website to confit. Apparently Sony has developed a super low light sensor for M4/3, which is an 8MP (4k or a little under that). I am guessing that with the right processing this should increasing light sensitivity a few times. http://www.sony-semicon.co.jp/products_en/news/detail/170301.pdf
  20. I don't know how many people use Auto focus on cameras for shooting anything. We shot a short film on a Canon 80D. The focus is pretty good. But in low light, close distance focus and when no individual is in the frame (or someone walks into an empty frame), the focus jump and the ability to figure out who to focus on is a joke. The problem is not so much of whether is can focus accurately or whether there is any focus jump. The problem is there are many conditions under which a camera with auto focus is just a joke, and can never replace a human being. And the fact that a lot of it is absolutely unpredictable. IMHO while dual pixel and all that marketing jargon sounds great, the fact that algorithm are far from great right now, means, that the hit and miss rate is huge. Samsung Smartphones (and much smaller sensor cameras), have far better focus locking on subjects, and yet those too have their limitations. I posted it here because I am genuinely curious to see whether someone actually shot an entire short film, documentary, wedding or music video, or corporate work etc on Auto focus on a camera with dual pixel (canon) or something like an A6300 or even A6500. I think users' exaggerated claims have kind of pushed the facts into the realm of dreams. People say things more for effect than for their actual worth.
  21. I agree. Andrew produces some of the best videos that come out from Panasonic Cameras. Also his reviews drive a lot of people towards Panasonic. They have been for quite long now.
  22. Andrew Reid could you PLEASE delete this Post. It's Bad Timing. And we should all try and Panasonic do well and hope and pray.
  23. I guess well-informed indie filmmakers would know that Panasonic makes some of the best low budget indie filmmaking cameras for the buck. And that one of Panasonic's worst problems stems around bad sales, due to poor marketing and terrible after sales (not in all countries, but in many). Add to this, the fact that they haven't Specifically targeted capturing India and China for their enormous potential and one can pretty much understand the state of affairs of their camera division. Which quite honestly, is bad for the low budget Indie Filmmaking Community as a whole. Now it appears Panasonic is restructuring it's camera division and retrenching people from the camera division and absorbing whoecer is left, elsewhere. ("Three other businesses units -- digital cameras, private branch exchange telephone systems and optical disk drives -- will be dismantled. Each will be scaled back and placed under the umbrella of other operations, with headcount to be reduced.") IMHO this is just bad timing, considering that people were predicting that the GH5 would break the 60,000 units camera annual sales record of the GH4 at its peak. While this doesn't mean that Panasonic would be shutting down its Camera Division, it just is very bad timing, especially considering that the GH5 is around any moment (early units have already been shipped and users are very happy with them), and buying nay lose confidence. I think Panasonic needs to Clarify and Pacify customers who have bought into the system and many others who are hoping to pick up some great low budget indie filmmaking gear. Also they need to get SERIOUS with their marketing regarding the audience for their cameras. Source: http://asia.nikkei.com/Business/Companies/Panasonic-takes-out-scalpel-again-as-profits-falter
  24. The GH4 has 12.8 stops for Photo. Video would be more on the lines of 11+ stops.
  25. I saw a host of photos and videos shot on the GH5. I suspect the Dynamic Range may be less for photos than the GH4 and more for video. Which is ok, quite frankly, because 12.8 stops is pretty respectable for a sensor this size.
