Quite Interesting. Panasonic has different timelines regarding when the HJ5 will release across various countries. And, a few people already seem t have received their copies and some people have also posted unboxing videos.

Panasonic India is launching the GH5 on the 1st of April with Driftwood helping people get through with using the camera (he is one of the Brand ambassadors, and they have advertised him as a famous DoP). I only hope they figure out how to market it and working on the terrible after-sales. India's photography and nd videography market is huge. If Panasonic plans well, they could easily make a few billions. Panasonic can easily tripe their annual sales figures by solely concentrating on India and China. I wish they would hire people to concentrate on these markets. https://***URL removed***/forums/thread/3728997?page=2

Some cinematographer made a video of the Canon 5D Mark ii in 2008 or something where he lied about its low light capabilites and actually used lights (I believe shadows or reflections of light sources were visible in the frame, something similar to the Stabiliser seen on the Yi 4k+ cam video lately and some smartphone photo shots of various manufacturers). Was that Shane Hurlbut?

Panasonic GH5 starts shipping in 3 days. How's the 180fps slow-mo quality?
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I liked this part of the review that Videodslr.pl outlined: "The only thing I'm missing is the ability to modify the V-Log parameters, just as you can modify the S-Log on Sony hardware. For more advanced users, this opens up many additional possibilities, such as speeding up workflows or obtaining more natural colors while maintaining a large dynamic range." There is a way to change specific colour tones that Jess has mentioned in one of the GX85 posts. I wonder if that applies (I am guessing it doesn't). -

I had the chance to use the GH5 too, here in India. It does have a much better designed menu and a few really interesting features. Unfortunately most people don't know enough about Panasonic Cameras in India, and the company doesn't seem to care about thier camera division. They would rather concentrate on the TVs and Air Conditioners. -
Just out of curiosity. Wouldn't you have rather made like a few Indie Films for that $100,000 or so you said you spent on the Canon Gear?

Hahaha. I read that too. It seriously hit the nail on the head. I laughed really wrong. I posted a comment on Cinema5D saying that the tests and their usage of language was so unacceptable, that it was meme worthy. They deleted that comment. I am guessing they also deleted many other comments from many other visitors to the site.

Hahaha. Ever since film equipment has become affordable to the majority if filmmakers, it has become more and more difficult to justify absurd pricing of filmmaking equipment. Also this whole lens resolution thing has become Absurd. It is almost as ignorant as geocentricism before a horde of murders and jail sentences of scientists by the church. If lenses as as lousy and have as low resolutions as testing agencies validated, or certified, smartphone resolutions would not even hover around 5MP, leave alone the 21MP of some of the Sony ones and the 36 (/40) MP of the Pure view lineup of the Nokia Phones. Lens resolution charts are ridiculously weird. They mean no harm, but they should be taken with a pinch of salt. Funny article though. Not sure how people chose names.

Everyone has opinions and everyone has their degrees of being right and wrong. On morality, technicality, articulating things etc etc. It's great that you can proudly say that you didn't give in to the greed of money, and that, unlike most blogs and sites that deal with independent filmmaking and gear reviews, you aren't saleable and no amount of money or fame can compromise your viewpoints. I guess one of the reasons the whole Cinema5D article about the GH5 is blowing up into their face, is because their credibility is not even remotely acceptable right now. People have started wondering why they even review products, if they have such obvious brands they are more favourable or faithful towards. Also, if a reviewer, in general, has any level of credibility. What everyone likes about EOSHD, is that you're incorruptible. Something your peers of the blog variety cannot claim.

Dynamic Range tests have become something of a joke nowadays. They remind me of the lovely shoet story titled Many Moons written by James Thurber, where every guy in the kingdom believes himself to be smarter than the other. Cinema5D rated the A7S at 12 stops of dynamic range, so rating the GH5 at 10-11 is actually pretty good. They probably remove 30% of the manufacturer's stated figures for the RED cameras. RED says 18 stops on the RED Weapon and Cinema5D will conveniently say12 stops. Or less. I feel, that they have a curious bias against Panasonic Cameras. I personally hate anything Panasonic right now, since my GX85 fiasco refuses to end. But, for the price, there isn't a better camera manufacturer for Indie Filmmakers out there. Panasonic gets way too many things right. Having 1 stop less of dynamic range doesn't even matter. Cinema5D praised the Sony RX100 to no end. And yet there was no mention of testing of great cameras like the G7, GX85, G85 etc. They definitely have a bias against Panasonic. And unlike me, they don't really gave against justifiable reason.

I couldn't see the Zebra patterns in your video, but it will start getting progressively more apparent, in both video and photos. But I had the exact same problem (the Zebra patterns), and it is a sensor issue (either bad sensor or the sensor has been attached incorrectly by some fool). I posted screen shots and details in another threat. And in my case the Panasonic nightmare hasn't gotten over yet. Send the camera back to the service centre, and pray to God that Panasonic doesn't have Terrible After Sales in your country too. They have to replace the sensor. Anything less will be pure eyewash.

Actually, I feel, even the SD II (or SD III) Standard will hit about 500MB/s. Which should be more than sufficient for most DSLRs. If they ever made a medium Format Camera that does like 100MPs @ 10fps at 14 bit RAW, then it might fall short. For video, though, 400mbps = 50MB/s. So to be safe, anything over rated 200MB/s (write speed) should be sufficient, I guess.
-
I could be wrong, but the JPEGs will be 8-bit 4-2-0, whereas the video will be 10-bit 4-2-2. Neat Video should be able to improve the noise much better on the video. Plus some other tricks. Also, the noise reduction algorithm are not like they can't be improved. There is always room for constant improvement.
-
I noticed this one in Particular. It kind of proves what panasonic have been saying all along, that 'the autofocus is significantly better, and more noticeable for video'. And, this isn't even the final firmware.
-
Actually, the EMD-1 Mark ii seems to have quite impressive noise reduction (on par if not better than the A6500). If Panasonic can replicate that, it would be amazing, especially for video.
-
True. But there are members from all over the world, including many places wheer 4k 50MB/s downloads won't really be possible. For them Vimeo has lesser resolution options. That's my opinion.

Yes, Andrew, it is an authorized service centre (it is at Lajpat Nagar, and it even turns up in the Google searches. I mailed to them too (http://www.panasonic.com/in/support/contact-us.html), and a guy now claims it is an AC (Air Conditioner), when I Clearly shared by Purchased Receipts and the International Warranty for the Camera. He also claims, that, the Warranty is not valid in India, for the, ahem, AC (when the Warranty for Camera CLEARLY mentions India). It's like Panasonic India is a complete mess. I doubt whether Anyone has Any idea here about cameras. I wonder if anyone could share information on Panasonic Japan or Panasonic United States. I could tell them about the shocking state of affairs here. It's true. Which is a poor analysis on Panasonic's part. The number of DSLRs I see on the streets nowadays is insane. Even kids as old as 12 and 14 seem to be having one.

Get it checked by a sound professional you may know. Btw, the NTG2 has a 10 year warranty, if you register it online. I am sure you are well within that warranty period.
-
Would it be too much to ask, to be able to see it on Vimeo, instead of downloading it Nice work, though. PB had done a similar review of the Mavic a little while ago. I am curious to see your version on this too.

Its really sad to hear this. Especially when Panasonic now have Global Warranties on their products. And, even 3 year warranties in certain jurisdictions. I would buy locally, but the GX85 was NOT available locally in Mid of Last Year (August 2016), in India. Even now, it is solely available with Amazon, as an Import, and there appears to be no mention of the warranty anywhere. I am suspecting even the GH5 won't be introduced here. Or if it is, it will be priced around the professional Canon and Nikon camera price range, and thus be avoided by a lot of Indie Filmmakers. Panasonic in many countries in the world needs a serious makeover. Like they need to retrench entire departments, or completely shut shot and start again. Like someone mentioned in another thread, they are surviving purely on washing machines and ACs. They really don't have the professionalism or standard of service that they have in Japan or the United States. In many other countries they are like sweat shops. This applies to their after sales, as well as their marketing department. It is extremely unfortunate, because their products are extremely good for the price.

I have owned a few Panasonic ILCs until now (the GH2, the GH3 and the GH4 briefly). I really enjoyed using all of them. I bought all of them from my local dealer in Bombay, India, and never once had an issues with any of them. Never. I was supposed to head to Europe at the end of last year, but the plan was shelved, and, sometime mid last year, I was without a camera. My sister happened to be in Australia in August, and I asked her to pick up a Panasonic GX85 from Australia (from Diamonds Camera Adelaide). That was a HUGE mistake. While I have bought a plethora of stuff from B&H, I have never really bought anything from Australia before. I got the camera to India, and there were strange vertical likes (purple and pink), across the screen and viewfinder. I took it to the local service centre at New Delhi, and they didn’t even know Panasonic has a GX85 model. When I told the service centre guys, that I suspected an issue with the sensor, he claimed it was not due to the CCD sensor, but due to some circuity issues with the LCD (completely ignoring my pointing out that viewfinder also had the same issue). I got the hint that he didn’t know anything about cameras when he felt a DSLR would have a CCD sensor. Plus they didn’t spare parts, and said the whole process would take months to fix. I then, obviously had to send it back to Adelaide all the way from New Delhi, only because the Service Centre in India was ill-equipped to handle any issues with Panasonic ILCs here (most model aren’t introduced, and the ones which are … well, their owners pray to God that they never have an issues). I wanted Diamonds Camera to change the camera with a new one, but they got it serviced instead. I got it back to India, and now, while the curious sensor issue has gone (they apparently changed the sensor itself), the camera is unable to focus at anything beyond 2 metres. Basically its like a Dud Camera. And, the service centre most likely screwed up with the sensor installation. Or the focusing needs calibration. I have owned many pieces of equipment before, but, this must be the very first time I owned a camera for 6 months, where for the majority of the period of those 6 months it didn’t work. And, to think of it, I was planning to pick up 2 Panasonic GH5s for my future work. I don’t know how Panasonic can have such lousy Quality Control, and even worse after sales. Maybe that is why almost Nobody in India uses a Panasonic. Almost everyone uses a Canon, Nikon or more recently Sony. First, most of their models never get introduced here. And the ones that are, mysteriously, cannot be serviced. In all fairness to Diamonds Cameras, they have asked me to send it back to Australia, for replacement with a new camera, and they have also been gracious enough to say that they will cover the to and fro expenses of the international courier. The only issue is now that I have had such a terrible experience with Panasonic, that I almost certain I won’t be touching another Panasonic Camera with a 10 foot barge pole. Also, that the International Courier will keep the camera in transit for atleast 4 weeks, if not longer.

Actually when I read this across various sites, I realized, that there may be many reasons for this: 1. Nikon isn't really stellar at video, and the 1" camera market does have an interesting emphasis on video. 2. Sony is literally monopolizing the newer 1" sensors, and using them for its newer RX100 models. Everyone else gets a generation or 2 older version, of the 1" sensor. 3. Panasonic's FZ2500 and the LX15 seem to have captured the Market of two of the Nikon DL models. This apart from Sony's own RX10 iii. Nikon announced the 3 cameras exactly 1 year ago, and then their R&D Department sat over them all this while, with almost no noticeable movement on that front (no product reviews, or cameras given to photographers, like the way Sony and Panasonic do for models before launch). In the meantime Panasonic and Sony were in a race to bring out new 1" sensor models, making the Nikons effectively obsolete. The Nikons would have had a price advantage, but, they spent way to long in the R&D, and that probably jacked up the final costs, thereby completely ruining a very interesting series of camera.

Multi-pin B-Format Output. hmmm ... yes, I guess, it will allow it to record into the DSLR (or whatever else it is mounted on), as well as into a recorder that records the B-Format for post work. Very interesting.
