I know, I did read most of the specs of the Major Panasonic releases. I am talking about the GX85, the Rangefinder version of the G/GH series minus the extra features of the GH series. Since the GX85 and G85 share pretty much most of the features (except weather sealing and a mic jack, and many not so major changes), there seems no reason not to have the CibeLike Profiles for the GX85.
-
This among other reasons is the reason that the GX85 should get a CineLike V and D. The colour science is seriously improved, and regardless of prices, the Panasonic GX85 is the top of the line Rangefinder design (as opposed to the DSLR design that the Panasonic G85 has, and the Panasonic the GX8 is an older camera, with a newer sensor, but no IBIS, shutter shock and very mediocre stabilization, so despite having a higher price, is therefore not a higher or more premium model). Panasonic should charge $99, if they don't want to give it for free. We should find a way to petition Panasonic more strongly. http://www.eoshd.com/comments/topic/20361-petition-for-log-video-profile-on-panasonic-gx85/#comment-155606

I wonder if it has the Sony IMX377 sensor? That is one crazy beast. The lack of higher bitrates may be due to the processing power (if not due to a different sensor). Because the processors onboard are doing so much more than on the GoPro. I also watched the DJI video again. The grading was terrible. I think they could retrench some employees from that department. I also watched the GoPro launch video. There is one bit where Wood (the CEO of GoPro) shows the level of stabilisation with the stabilizer mounted on one of the bikers, and its very impressed in terms of stabilisation. But that video has some serious micro-blocking issues. Maybe due to the bitrate limitations.
-
I actually watched the entire GoPro launch video (I had avoided it earlier, thinking GoPro were packing the same thing, again, with a new name, ans a higher price). But the new GoPro 5, the new GoPro session and the Karma seem to have finally made GoPro start innovating again. I like the voice command feature, the built-in waterproof housing, and the stabilisation (I wonder if it is in the 4k mode as well?). Also, like mentioned above the whole Karma kit is gr8 (though for $1099, or $350 more than the DJI, and about 3 times the size). DJI can improve their video quality by merely improving the bitrate and having a flat profile option for post. The GoPro Karma is anything but portable. That is one lie GoPro should stop peddling.

Looks excellent. And super compact size. And Huge price difference between this and the GoPro. The GoPro is $800 for Drone Only (without camera).

Smaller or bigger area. I wonder if a multi-aspect ratio sensor (like the 1.86x one on the GH2) would be able to do IBIS? I am guessing that it may, but with lesser stabilisation (unless it's a 20MP sensor, the same new one that Olympus will get, and ISIS may actually be sensor shift + Electronic Stabilisation). Also does the newer anamorphic sensor crop allow it for being even wider now? I am guessing Panasonic underplayed the talents of the GH5. It's looking like it will be quite a monster.
-
Very likely. I have a feeling the Panaspnic GH5 and the Olympus OMD EM1 Mk II may have the same sensor, one geared towards Photos and one towards Video.
-
True. It is seriously pocketable. Most jacket pockets could easily accommodate one. I guess it's similar in size to the LX100. That can't be said about the G7 or G80/85. Especially with the kit lens. I like the Mitakon 25mm f.95 lens despite some of the strange reviews. It has that characteristics of one of those old minolta (was it Minolta?) lenses that Mattias Burling (I hope that was him) mentioned, about having a lot of flare pointed at direct sunlight, and thus softer image due to the coating. Almost like a natural ultra contrast built-in. Also, like I mentioned, some cities have so much character at night. They literally come alive then.
-
Though I bought the GX80 1-2 months back, I didn't really get to use it until yesterday cause I was travelling. Quite a seriously impressive little camera. I wish they didn't act so stupid by not putting a ($5) mic socket and not having Cineline V and D. The price difference between this and the G80 isn't really big considering the weather sealing, the magnesium front, slightly quieter shutter, 3 times faster buffer and the kit lens. If all those are considered the GX80 may be overpriced. And if they incorporate the 8-bit 4-2-2 internal recording, it would be stupid. The kit lens is actually pretty sharp. Maybe as sharp as many of the primes. Though having a faster prime is a necessity. I wish there were a lot more choices for fast glass (f1.2 and faster). I love night street video and photography. A lot of cities really come alive at night. Panasonic should incorporate the Cinlike profiles, the Saving Mode and the Focus Bracketing in the firmware update, and not merely focus bracketing. I found the grip a little ackward and uncomfortable at first. It takes a while getting used to. Though, overall, I actually like the range-finder kind of body and semi-articulating screen. They make the camera less conspicuous. I could put the camera on a wall right next to a cop, tilting the screen upwards, and he wouldn't know he's part of a guerilla shoot.
-
Handheld videography is underrated. If Panasonic can reach the 6.5 stops of stabilisation of Olympus, I think it would be as smooth as a steadycam. Development like this is Far Greater for lower budget indies, and Guerilla Shooting. For large productions stabilisation, ISO and zooms have no place. Too much time and money is spent on things which can be handled otherwise. And FX Artists and Companies are underpaid.

All Canon DSLRs have soft video. It may have got to do with their algorithm and how they down sample.
-
Actually there are some patterns that almost no camera can control, in terms of moiré. I remember there was a chair in my house with the wiry back like one of those Herman Miller Chairs, and even the GH2 had issues fighting moire on that one. One day I realised that if I stared at the chair for a little while and slowly moved my head left to right and vice versa, my eyes would form a strange pattern too. Here, looking at your shirt, I am guessing it is more of the sunlight that is causing the issues with the pattern, due to very strong reflections aggravated by the pattern. It's like one of those Disco Shirts, that are way too shinyor bling to be worn during the day. I could be wrong though. Could you use some other camera on that shirt in bright sunlight too, with light bouncing off the shirt. Maybe the GX85 may not be the only one suffering from an inability to handle the shine.

Hahaha. How about some Seriously Good LOG (and 300mbps 8-bit 4-2-2).

The more I am reading about Olympus, the More I am convinced this is the sensor that will take on the APS-C DSLR brigade. Especially for photography. Source: http://www.amateurphotographer.co.uk/latest/photo-news/exclusive-interview-setsuya-kataoka-olympus-95731 "AW: What was Olympus’s main point in mind when designing the E-M1 II? SK: The primary point is speed, which is increased dramatically, not just the continuous shooting but also the autofocus and viewfinder refresh rate. The sensor readout is faster, and the data processing speed has dramatically improved. AW: In its launch presentation Olympus said the E-M1 II would offer a better value proposition than APS-C. Can you expand on that; for example did it mean both DSLR and mirrorless? SK: In a sense it’s both, but more about the conventional APS-C DSLR than APS-C CSCs. With the E-M1 Mark II we have surpassed the speed and image quality of APS-C DSLRs. AW: In what way was is IQ surpassed? SK: In particular, we’re better than our competitors at mid-range ISOs around ISO 6400, with better noise reduction and resolution. AW: Can we talk about the E-M1 Mark II’s new IS system. How well does it work with and without IS lenses? SK: The in-body stabilisation itself gives 5.5 steps, and the Sync IS gives 6.5 steps with OIS lenses. 6.5 stops is actually a theoretical limitation at the moment due to rotation of the earth interfering with gyro sensors. AW: What were the main challenges making the E-M1 II and getting it to work at such high speeds? SK: The improvement comes from AF speed and accuracy, with the 121-point sensor. But this means image recording and autofocus need to be matched at high speed. This was very difficult, to maximise the performance of the E-M1 II’s new image sensor. AW: Is the sensor related to the one in the PEN-F just with PDAF added, or are there more differences? SK: It’s a totally different sensor, two times faster, with totally different construction. On-chip phase detection is also incorporated." Whoa !!! In some ways, I feel the co-operation between Olympus and Panasonic needs to be more. Also, I am curious whether the new 20MP sensor is another off-the-rack sensor, or one that Sony has SPECIFICALLY made for Olympus. Either ways, in many ways, Panasonic needs to concentrate and work on its Photography limitations. Especially in comparison to APS-C DSLRs.
-
I am guessing if the Olympus EM 1 ii can have 121 cross-point on-chip PDAF, then obviously there seems no reason why the Panasonic GH5 should have far better focus for Photo, and a much higher burst rate. I am guessing the PDAF is a fabrication process, on existing sensors, and is not very difficult. Though for mirrorless cameras, since everything is electronic, it may be an issue of processing power. And that is why Panasonic may also need a pair of quad core processors, one solely for focus. This may be a blessing for both photo and video. If Canon and Sony can do it, I see no reason why Panasonic cannot do it too. Also, there is some kind of Focus Improvement in the FZ2000 which is noticeable from its fake dolly zoom feature. It doesn't lose focus while zooming in. I am guessing Panasonic is Already working on PDAF in a huge way. I read in some Fuji interview that faster focussing needs much lighter moving parts within the lens. And that is why their new lenses are being planned accordingly. We basically just got a Hint of the GH5's features. It is going to be a real powerhouse.

The specs seem INSANE. Either it's a HUGE JOKE, or Olympus will effectively bring the end of a few DSLR makers. "... will be equipped with the newly-developed high-speed TruePic VIII Image Processor which is 3.5 times faster than previous TruePic processors and a new 20.4 megapixel Live MOS sensor equipped with 121 points of cross-type on-chip phase detection and contrast detection AF. These technologies will work with the camera’s electronic shutter to provide full resolution images at up to an unprecedented 60 frames per second in AF and AE lock, and up to 18 frames per second with continuous AF and AE tracking." https://m.dpreview.com/news/9740173952/olympus-announces-e-m1-mark-ii-development

Exactly. Especially if you are not using many of the video features. Thanks for posting.
-
Where exactly did you read this? I was trying to look for it.
-
So true. I see all these frustrated Camera users who want like 100MP Stills and 4 million ISO on M4/3 cameras. And they don't want to spend anything more than a 2-3 year old point and shoot.
-
Whoa !!! Where did you get this pic from? Is it for real? Have Panasonic REALLY listened to smart users, instead to fools who were praising the Brick Yaaaaagggghhh

The $697 Body only price is a mistake. B&H seems to have removed that from the search results, though they have inadvertently, forgotten to remove the URL, that you just posted. The price is extremely competitive. I noticed some very interesting features, on this one, from the Imaging Resource website: http://www.imaging-resource.com/PRODS/panasonic-g85/panasonic-g85A.HTM " .. due to the G85's more durable construction (more on that later), the shutter is also quieter than not only the G7 but also the GX85 by about four decibels. Not only is it sturdy, lightweight and compact, but it's also very quiet, making it an excellent choice for events, ceremonies, and other sound-sensitive environments .." Interesting. This must be due to the weather-sealing. I wonder how much the 4 Extra Decibels translates in real terms. Would one actually be able to use it at live events, without a plethora of abuses being hurled. "Panasonic is claiming up to 5-stops of image stabilization correction, besting the 4-stop, first-generation Dual I.S. system of the GX85. According to Panasonic, the new system, by way of the Venus Engine processor, controls both the lens' optical I.S. system and the sensor-shifting mechanism simultaneously for better angle compensation. This new stabilization system should provide up to 5-stops of correction all the way out to an equivalent focal length of about 280mm ..." This will offer one stop of better shake compensation over the GX85. I am suspecting, it is due to the heavier body, and not the MagAlloy front side, like Panasonic Claims. Panasonic may have discovered it by accident. " .. front face of the camera's chassis is solid magnesium alloy, while the top and back panels are both polycarbonate." Interesting ONLY the front side of the camera is magnesium alloy. The back is still, surprisingly, plastic. Drop it, on the front side, if you must "G85 does have in common with the GH4's video options includes Cinelike D and Cinelike V picture styles for increased dynamic range in videos and easier color grading capabilities" I guess everyone knew this would get CinelikeD and CinelikeV. Though, they don't mention anything about VLog, which is appears not to be a feature available.

I dunno whether this is the Final price, but pocket-lint claims, that the price of the Panasonic G80 is £699 ($911) Body Only. I am guessing, then, that the price of the G80 would be $999 with a kit lens http://www.pocket-lint.com/news/138806-photokina-2016-all-the-best-new-cameras-for-2016-from-the-show

I believe he said it will be introduced in the 1st Quarter of 2017. So about 6 months or (much) less. I hope the option to have IBIS On and Off is an option, especially considering the recording time, the noise picked up by the on-board mic etc etc
-
In 4k. He said it. And it showed on the Screen too
-
Everything is the same as already discussed. The G80's only advantage over the GX85 is the weather-sealing and mic in. I am also a little disappointed that they don't have as many features on the LX15 (the paid Vlog etc).
