They can tweak the Cinelike D & V (Especially since they would have disabled the HDMI for external recording). Their burst mode is the same as the GX8, which is pretty stellar. I hope they improve a few things via firmware. I believe Panasonic needs to work with Manufacturers, and have Atleast 3 good and affordable f.95 lenses in place, a 24mm (12.5mm), a 35mm (17.5mm)and a 50mm (25mm) equivalent prime range. Maybe they could collaborate with Sigma for the cheaper lenses (or even Mitakon, since the only noticeable issues with Mitakon lenses appear to be 'incorrect' f-stop marking on the lens, and the flare, which frankly I feel may be adding to dynamic range, like a ultra-low density filter). I also hope Panasonic improves its supply chain. Here they still Don't have the G7, GX8, LX100, etc etc. They got the FZ1000 a short while ago. I had met a council in Panasonic a year or so ago, and the first thing I told him was that their marketing and supply chain is crap. He agreed, and also insinuated some shady stuff happening inside Panasonic, but it ended there. No improvement in either department. I see the Canon 1300D Ads EVERYWHERE. They could have spent Atleast a Few Million Dollars in each country. Panasonic still has terrible marketing, for many countries.

1. I agree, Panasonic did a shitty thing by saving on the tiny expenditure of a mic socket, and to save the GX7 line. 2. The IBIS is noisy. Though, TBO, not any more, or less, that the one on the Olympus' either. I dunno how silent it is on the Sonys. Though, I feel, for good audio, one always still needs an (or a few) external mic(s). Also, I wonder of the shoe mount is active or passive, and whether Panasonic can fix the missing mic socket issue, by allowing 3. Actually, most Panasonic cameras fix moire and other things in-camera, and they do it pretty well. I am guessing that either this is a non-Panasonic lens, or the the user didn't switch between Panasonic and non-Panasonic lenses, in camera. But, it is pretty bad. The Fringing is very weird looking. Almost like Iridescent of some sort. It almost looks like her jacket is a 2-tone jacket. It's not a good thing to have to fix photos for things like purple fringing in post. It almost has that strange iridescence look. I think we should inform Panasonic on all social media, and keep telling them what we want in the GX80/ GX85/ GX7ii.

The video is actually very impressive. And his daughter knows her daddy is filming her and is in full form (with her cute facial expressions and head turns) in the video.

I also saw a video of the GX80/ 85/ 7ii, where the zoom function in-camera is used to replicate a dolly shot, and I thought it's pretty neat. So it effectively replaces a stabilizer and dolly (for HD). These may seem small, but they are actually pretty neat functions. Even the focus in video seems improved (especially considering he was using an Olympus lens, so DFD or similar tech may not help with as smooth and quick focus).

Such kind of fanboy attitute has allowed for canon to come out with Cameras like the 1300D, 7D ii, and almost everything else in the DSLR range in the last few years. Go pick up a 5D mark ii. You don't deserve anything apart from that.

Whoa !!! You guys are seriously path-breaking in figuring out what customers really want, instead of giving people things things they may not need, or the specifications may not be quite there. Keep up the good work

More than anything else, Unless VR is transparent and compact, maybe something like Google Glass, I don't see it becoming very big. And that AD with a guy travelling with a VR Headset on a Tube was absolutely unimaginative. It wad outright stupid. He could have been mugged or missed his station of something much worse.

Actually, the fact that Photokina is taking place in September (20-25), and is a Much Larger show, has also IMHO kept the exhibitors at other show less exciting about exhibiting there. The GH5 and maybe the firmware updates to the Blackmagics will be announced then. Also, a few other M4/3rd announcements, and some more from Sony, I am guessing. Also, I am guessing Panasonic is going to announce something seriously pathbreaking. Don't wanna say what it is. Let's wait until September.

Time to step up - Panasonic GH5 must go 6K Super 35mm to compete in 2016
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If 1Inch sensors can pull off 20 Megapixels that look respectable, then 4/3rd sensors should be able to pull off about 27 Megapixels that look respectable (2.7x crop vs 2.0 crop). The only other way to do this would be to reverse engineer (not sure if it is the right term over here) the Metabones Speed booster patent, and use a glass in between the M4/3 mount and an APS-C sensor in a M4/3rd body. I also noticed that almost Everyone is Confused as to what they want from the next GH Camera, keeping in mind the position it fits into (it's not a Canon DSLR, and it doesn't want to trespass into the BlackMagic territory wrt to the codec). I guess a centre-point would be a 4-2-2, which the GH4 already does, though externally. So now it must do it internally. I am guessing that it will be a new 24MP sensor (someone mentioned that as the maximum resolution possible for M4/3rds). If they can nail post focus at 5k or 6k, along with the 5k or 6k photo mode, it would be superb. The GH4 already has superb battery life. Only the GX85's 5-axis stabilisation may be the extra features. Also, I felt (from Matt's talk, or someone else's) that Panasonic will re-introduce the YAGH module, but streamlined this time, and not look so outrightly cumbersome and functionless. The SDIs and time codes seemed inappropriate. Maybe micro XLR, and modules for SSDs. I also wonder if a better and higher bitrate (200-300 mbps) 5k codec would help. -
Does this count? There's Still a Lack of a good dual sound recording microphone (on an SD or MicroSD). The Shure Lenshopper is good, but not directional enough. This is cheaper by $100, and even records a safety track. And either headphone or mic input (I am guessing only 1 of the 2). Looks terrible, but who really cares about how it looks? http://tascam.com/product/dr-10sg/overview/

Time to step up - Panasonic GH5 must go 6K Super 35mm to compete in 2016

Matt says they are seriously considering 10 bit 4-2-2 Internal. That would be Huge. And maybe moving to Faster Cards too. -
BMPCC records on SD Cards. This on CFast (correct me if I am wrong). That itself is a huge deciding factor. Plus processing power can make a Huge Difference. The Panasonic GX85 and GX7 have the same sensor, but vastly different processing power, and hence the 4k.

It does 4k @ 60p. It does higher frames rates upto 120p (though NOT at Full Res).

Like I said before, I am also a lawyer, among other things. I went to sleep somewhere in between reading the starting clauses. hehehe. I would wait for the product to hit the shelves. But, it does seem promising. I would wait for someone famous to take the plunge, and then see the results and take a call. Actually, their clauses are a parallel to public platform funding (IndieGogo, Kickstarter etc). America has a very curious system of civil suits. Corporations are fined in millions, and even in billions, in damages. Though, I feel, a lot of those corporations genuinely deserve it. Maybe that is why they have this agreement (from many clauses indicating therein).

hahaha. True.

Blackmagic View Assist 4K records 4K ProRes to SD card for just $895
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
I knew this was coming. The only question was when. Also, I wonder if they solved the issue with the interlaced and progressive feed, that exists with the Full HD Video Assist. -
I don't know why nobody has thought or asked this: 1. If it is modular in the manner that it is, how study is it after connecting it the way it is. I hope it doesn't suffer from misalignment, breakage etc. 2. I wonder how fast the modular connection port transfer is. Since it doesn't have a common motherboard, I am guessing the reliability of ports is far more important here. I am guessing that the basic camera (that is sold) will have most functions, and the modules will add more, or improve existing features. Someone mentioned that it won't work without the extra sound module. I am not sure that may be the case. It says, "AUDIO ELEMENT Your camera "expands its audio capabilities" when you add the Audio Element. Features include 2 mic inputs with phantom power, balanced analog output, and 1/8” stereo headphone jack for monitoring." Sound quality Improves (due to the preamps), and monitoring is available with the sound module.

13 Stops of Dynamic Range at 120fps is actually pretty cool. Also, the whole Modular Components bits is actually path breaking. I think its a superb idea, and more than anything else, I am dying to know how well it is implemented. A lot of people on Facebook were suspicious of the pricing. But, remember the BMPCC was $499 once. If these guys mass purchased similar sensors (maybe with higher frame rates, though), they can easily justify the price. Also, the components keep adding to the price. I love what I see. I am dying to get one to use.

I saw pics of the Kinefinity TERRA, and the thing is so tiny, its amazing.

They are obviously a company. I didn't have time to go through with the registrations of Patents filed, but this did turn up. If I had a few hours, I could have found out all the Patents they registered. But, anyways, here (TM Only): https://trademarks.justia.com/868/21/craft-86821428.html And, this very strange looking design (which I am guessing they have Abandones completely by now).

I have been saying this for the longest. While dual pixel is superb, the speed and accuracy of focus, may have nothing to do with dual focus. Why? Well because most high-end cameras (and many mid-range ones too), can easily manage with the speed and accuracy of focus, considering the number of focus points on the sensor. As a matter of fact, if Panasonic allows better focus transition algoriths in its cameras, it will do a very good job of focus pulling with a smartphone/ phablet/ tablet. Also, the speed in photography is something that lenses and cameras work with, together. With better transitional software, I am sure a lot of cameras can pull focus far better.

I always feel that there is a Huge Gap between the Marketing and Designs' Team at Panasonic. Not sure if this feature is available on other (non-Panasonic) Cameras, but the Panasonic GX80/ 85/ 7ii seem to have upto 7 frame AE Bracketing. That seems pretty amazing. "AE bracket3, 5, 7 frames in 1/3, 2/3 or 1 EV Step, Max. ±3 EV, single/burst Aperture Bracket3, 5 or all positions in 1 EV step". (http://www.panasonic.com/uk/consumer/cameras-camcorders/lumix-g-compact-system-cameras/dmc-gx80.html) I wonder if anyone has used it on the G7 (which has 4 or 5), or any other Panasonic Camera, and what was their experience?
-
Apparently it has the sensor of the GX7. I read it at a few places, including some Panasonic interview. (https://www.ephotozine.com/article/panasonic-lumix-gx80-gx85-review-29143)

The GX8 has a more recent sensor. I am guessing the issue with processing may not be with the sensor at all. It may be with the available processing power as well as not stepping on to the market of the higher end cameras. If that is the case, then the GH5 should concentrate on something like 4k ProRes or 10-bit AVCHD or something on those lines, instead pf moving to 6k. Though 6k would be excellent for post photo and other photography needs. Also low light can seriously improve on the Panasonics/ M4/3rds. And this again I feel may not be an issue with sensor alone. Also, from the look of things, the GH5 may be moving more into the $2000 range. Which would, frankly be justifiable.

I agree. I think we should make an online petition for having a Log Profile (Cineline D and V) on the GX85.
