On youtube, last evening, I stumbled upon the Magic Lantern hacks (actually the extra firmware, since it doesn't really mess with the original firmware), and was amazed by the features. There were some excellent ones, and the whole movement was really path-breaking in almost every way. But, I went through a lot of videos, and I realized, that Magic Lantern had way too many features. And, most users used about 10-20% of those in total, so most of these features were wasted. Most importantly, Magic Lantern had some serious money and time constraints, since all the excellent work was Pro Bono. If Magic Lantern had created a KickStarter kind of campaign (I wonder if Canon would have tried to block such an effort?), it could have gathered the necessary funding to be able to dedicate more time and money to such good work. After all, no matter how good an idea is, if it doesn't sell, it dies out.

You're right. I meant in a drone. Maybe it's high time Panasonic introduced a RAW shooting DSLM.

The Surface Pro needs a dedicated graphics card. Something high end for tablet/ laptop video edit. I don't know why they don't add that. Otherwise with its (upto) i7 lineup, it seems pretty neat. I think that and quick charging are something Microsoft should consider for its new Surface Pro.

I don't know why (12.8 stops of dynamic range amd 2.3x crop), but this seems to have the GH4 sensor. I have this strange feeling that the GH4 was crippled by Panasonic (like almost all manufacturers do) to ensure that it doesn't entrench upon some other lineup. And that the GH4 CAN shoot Raw Video at 30p (maybe even higher frame rates). Btw, this aeral drone is officially the First Micro Fourth Third Sensor to shoot Raw video. Wow. I am also guessing that Panasonic will introduce RAW in its DVX200 via a firmware, since it is capable of shopting raw.

I read Dan Chung's review. I realised it would release anytime during today. These are the issues I noticed: 1. "My 4K footage had a final output in 1080 HD and still looked a little soft in parts. In the future I imagine that 6K or 8K video will give a much better results." It crops like all software based stabilizing software. It probably needs to be tweaked so as not to crop this much. 2. "I opted for to switch between 1/250th and 1/500th speeds with the lens at about f4, using the ISO to control exposure. You can use lower shutter speeds but the results aren’t so impressive." The higher shutter speeds means lesser light (1/5th to 1/10th), which, quite frankly is fine in broad daylight. Though Indoors this may not be a very good idea. 3. "Because SteadXP uses both audio channels for its recordings you will lose any sound recorded unless you have a professional video camera with four channel recording." Inability to record sound on most cameras.

hahaha. You're right. I Just noticed. And the frames are more than just one. Her hair is still not in the same movement. Hmmm ... I hope it doesn't ruin the codec. Just mild purple that can be corrected in post.

Hehehe. In a Lot of NAB/ CES made videos for stabilisers the warp stabilizer imprint is clearly visible. People making gimbals exaggerate its effect. Some camera mobile manufacturer (was it Nokia?) Shot with a DSLR and claimed it shot with the mobile phone. I with these guys would state the amount of cropping it does. It's the same as other stabilizers, but it uses the gyro in the camera along with information on the gadget on top, which has all sorts of gyros a and all sorts of instruments inside, and then syncs the two, and uses the help of very high frame rate to fight the effecrs of things like the jello effect. What resolution videos have they uploaded? I am on a mobile device so I couldn't figure out. Just curious. Why do you feel thr colours may be affected?

I couldn't agree more with you. But more than merelt the size of sensors and other things it may be the implementation. I think Sony should concentrate on making a PureView808 kind of Sensor which is atleast 40MP (or ideally 50MP) and produces a 20MP image at bitrates comparable with DSLRs. That would be seriously something. Also, high bitrate videos similar to Panasonic's midrange can produce some steller video as seen from various online videos. One cannot carry a professional camera 24x7. But a phone with a superb mobile phone camera can be carried around always. And it can be made to shoot some great videos too. But DSLRs are an Entire Industry. And people like to look more professional than they are. Sony's mobile phone sensor division has alreadybstarted stepping on their camera sensor division. They just don't know it yet.

I personally doubt whether the improvement will be very noticeable. The only exciting video from a mobile phone regardless of frame rates appear to be the S6 and Note 5 with that crazy 200Mbps Flat Profile app (4k Cinema App). Also this jump to 12 MP from 8 is another disappointment. Quite frankly most of today's announcements were lack lustre. I believe Samsung (along with Motorola) seem to be 2 companies who are really heading in the right direction (along with the One Plus guys). Samsung's 6GB RAM is another great move, especially for gaming and for shooting high res 4k video. While Sony makes superb sensors IMHO it is unable to make the best phones to use these technologies. Also its phones look very poorly designed. Samsung seems to be really nailing it. I won't be surprised if their next generation of phone sensors compete with Sony in a big way.

I agree with you too. Most mobile videos right now look mostly crap regardless of which film festival they enter or what AD uses them.
-
And except OLED monitors/ TVs no other monitors can show Blacks like they really should be.
-
The new panaroma mode shoots some large sized pics. Don't remember the exactpixel size though. Btw I have a feeling Samsung has designed the Chip And AND the Camera.
-
Aren't a lot of these features already there on Android (Samsung) phone? The Apple Pencil was the S-Pen, amd 4k was a natural (albeit late) progression. I found most of the announcements rather cold and unimpressive. The 4k app on the iPhone btw hangs and causes all sorts of strange issues. More than anything I would like a shootout between this and the S6. Especially with the 4k Cinema App ... ;-)

There is a live streaming thing with some irritating VO if you can tolerate it: https://www.google.co.in/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=http://www.youtube.com/watch%3Fv%3DGJxlNXqilwM&ved=0CGcQtwIwGWoVChMIkeKS7cPqxwIVFwaOCh017gtD&usg=AFQjCNEWhw4J2lhXUv3I7Cy8ABoO7LJEsQ

More than the iPhone the new iPad Pro looks promising. I hope somebody makes a Tablet PC on which one can actually edit videos. Even if the battery is absolutely lousy and so is the memory (128GB SSD and 16 GB RAM atleast). But something that should have a great processor and great graphics card.
-
That's actually a Superb question. It is imperative to get exact exposure in camera if you shoot internally, because you have far less latitude to play around with. Also, the chances of being unable to recover highlights clipped is higher if the video is recorded internally (as opposed to recording on an external recorder).

Canon announces development of 8K Cinema EOS camera and 120MP DSLR
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Long ago they had posted screen shots from a 5k Red Camera and the image was way too sharp and no grain had been added. I could literally see the hair on the nose of the actress. Me being me, I pointed it out. They obviously deleted the post and blocked me. Hahaha -
You did not understand why I said different Flat Profiles. They are Actually Quite Flat (compared to the stock camera settings), and I have posted a Screen Shot of the App from the App Store where various Levels of Flat Profile exist. Btw most videos posted online have been graded so you may not be able yo notice the Flat profiles. Also, people who Do Not have the Samsung S6 and the Note 5 may not be able to shoot flat profiles at all.

Canon announces development of 8K Cinema EOS camera and 120MP DSLR
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
If this monster did 120MP at 24p at RAW instead of 5fps in jpegs, it would sound the death knell for all other cameras. I guess the new C300 will compete with the REDs and maybe even the Alexas. -
Canon announces development of 8K Cinema EOS camera and 120MP DSLR

Canon just keeps announcing random grossly overdone camera technologies. 4 million ISO, and then this. And then everyone is kept in the dark for the next 10 years over what the footage actually looks like, because NASA is using this for indulging in voyeurism wrt to spying on alients making love on Pluto. I think Canon should concentrate on making cameras to compete with the G7, the GH4, the LX100 etc etc instead of all. -
It doesn't work on all (actually most) phones. I am guessing that Samsung S6 and Note 5 seem to be the best phone for this App. Other have all sorts of strange glitches with it.
-
I noticed that the App worka best onSamsung Galaxy S6 (and Edge) and probably the Note 5. I saw quite a few online videos including on the One Plus Two. It works on a lot of phones, has hiccups on the LGs, but on the Samsung's it really seems to be nailing it. I also noticed that there are Intensity Levels in Flat Profile and various settings too. I am actually Very Curious to know how much the footage can be pushed and whether at High Flat Profiles it competes with the SLog or VLog even marginally. The more I learn about this, the more I am fascinated.

Most likely it wil never make it to commercial production. Though, I can imaging the Cohen brothers going absolutely nuts with the posibility of their perpetual zooms (ala 'Burn After Reading'), when the final shots zooms into a flea on a guy's nose. Hehehe Or a Ridley Scott 'Body of Lies' kindda film with Sattelite photo effect. Otherwise mostly useless for films I guess. Also, I am a little suspicious about the Processing Power of this Camera (a mini super computer to rival some of the planet's Best, I am guessing). Till they let people use it, it will just be a very suspicious piece of technology.

Could you please provide a comprehensive list of mobile phones that support the 4K Cinema App. Also, could you try and increase the list if possible. It would be great to pick up a few mobile devices and maybe actually use them for a little project. Thanks in advance.

I saw the 3 models this year, and they all appear to be very good. As with most things, BlackMagic has a huge price advantage, which should, hopefully, play in their favour.
