  1. Andrew, you do a great job with the site, and with anything that takes so much of one's time, effort and spirit, it is important to give yourself a little break, whenever you feel it's getting much. I will suggest doing things that you havent done, not because you can't do them, but either you believed these things fo be very difficult, or you weren't sure how to pursue them. I was personally planning to run a traiathoin last year, despite never even having a run a marathon or half marathon in my life. I went out one day to test how much I can run, with absolutely zilch practice, and I ran about 7.5kms, with no prior preparation. I wasn't exhausted, but I didn't run more, cause I didn't wanna become that guy who randomly dies, cause he decided to break some distance record, at his very first attempt. I am very comfortable at cycling even though I haven't done in over a decade, and my swimming is extremely slow and I had terrible buoyancy until, recently, when I discovered yoga. But, I see a lotta people with different physical handicaps, and extremely high level of mental power, and I realise, if I push myself, and be a little consistent, I should be able to pull it off. 2020 was all about about being broken down, by everything around. 2021, is about being crazy, and doing things you've never done before. Screw the formalities, just do things you want to, and care a fuck about anyone, including your self doubt, telling you, you can't.

    DJI Mavic 3

With the specs on this, they could easily do a handheld cinema camera version of this, and it could do pretty well. Like an Osmo meets GoPro kind of ergonomics. M43 sensor, 2-2.5 inch display, more buttons, and threads in place for attachments. With the great codec and photo and video capabilities of DJI, it could replace a lot of large sensor cameras. I wonder if it's this is the new 120fps 4k sensor?
  3. Interesting. What about circumventing the PDAF layer on the sensor and using a ToF/laser autofocus instead? That could as fast and as accurate as a PDAF. Unfortunately no other sensor maker seems to be making prosumer camera sensors, as widely as Sony. Curiously, Nikon was working on a 1inch sensor that had higher dynamic range than most full frame sensors and way faster read spreads too (I am mentioning this, since next generation sensors and newer tech should keep blurring the line between smaller and larger sensors). Not sure why it didn't develop further and, also curious whether the GH6 adds more dynamic range and low light improvements, and by how much.
  4. Oh ok. Thanks to China (Fauci, Bill Gates, etc too?), Covid has slowed down the world, and ensured most peoples lives are seriously disrupted. Also, the super shady behaviour of the UN (Tedros) and others is extremely strange. I feel the Panasonic autofocus part can be explained in 3 parts. 'Of course, we have received various opinions from our customers, and we recognize that image-plane phase-detection AF is superior in terms of subject tracking. On the other hand, as represented by deep learning, we are improving AF performance by strengthening algorithms that utilize the video signal processing technology which we are good at. We are currently developing the next-generation system with the aim of making it even more practical, so please wait until the day we can provide it.' 1. "we have received various opinions from our customers, and we recognize that image-plane phase-detection AF is superior". This means Panasonic know how urgently customers have been asking for AG to be improved (which for many, may be the sole thing lacking in Panasonic cameras). 2. "... as represented by deep learning, we are improving AF performance by strengthening algorithms that utilize the video signal processing technology which we are good at." Which is corporate gibberish at its finest. 3. "We are currently developing the next-generation system with the aim of making it even more practical.." Either they're reinventing the wheel or giving us some unbelievable story regarding DfD, which is quite unreliable, and needs to be phased out on new cameras. If they don't fix the AF, it may be aufweidersehen for Panasonic. Which would be sad, because Panasonic seems to have gotten most other things right. And the failure of the G7, G9, G95 and others as Student Indie Cameras may mostly be due to bad marketing.
  5. I read this too. It's deplorable, the insolence with which Panasonic dismissed the whole PDAF request of the majority of users. Unless then have extra sensors (like a ToF) to fix the autofocus, its probably just a very bad decision.
  6. 16 stops on an Alexa would be like 24 stops on a RED 😄
  7. 🤣🤣🤣 "1) Follow @lumix 2) Pick one or more videos taken with LUMIX camera. 3) Post 15-30 sec. video with an explanation on Instagram. 4) Put the following hashtags: “#LUMIX20thLOVE” and the camera model of which the video was filmed (ex. #LUMIXGH5)"
  8. Any great looking footage should do, I am guessing. Even if it were shot on a smartphone and worked on extensively in post.
  9. I am guessing Panasonic is working on finalising a Lumix Theme Track, and may be collaborating with someone famous (Hans Zimmer 😉). Panasonic should be generous and give away 3 x GH6 cameras, with different lens combinations (2× f1.7 primes, 2x f2.8-4 zooms, and 2x f2.7 zooms).
  10. Here's your chance to win the GH6. If the Contest ends on 30th September, so I am guessing the GH6 should be released before the end of October (?). Details are in the post and the link. https://www.43rumors.com/panasonic-launched-a-new-contest-and-guess-whats-the-prize-the-new-gh6/#disqus_thread
  11. I hope you're right. The GH line started it for Panasonic and created the customer base for Videographers. It needs to be the camera to beat, atleast for video. I am curious why no ILC maker is trying smartphone type HDR to get better low light, more dynamic range, and greater bit depth.
  12. Interestingly. The GH5 does pretty amazing at what it does. Only a slightly improve autofocus and better low light seem to be the only things that most people ask, I guess. Plus, throwing in a Netflix approval wouldn't be too bad (I am guessing Panasonic may be working on it). That may require a certain kind of timecode and a certain standard of Log profile (?).
  13. Yes, my bad, I remember reading that (M43rumours?). Then why does he possibly mention issues with continuous recordingwith reference to the question on RAW and recording into an SSD (in the gri, like Andrew suggested). I felt some of his answers were in parallels. He probably didn't get the question clearly.
  14. That's what I seem to feel from this interview. And the perpetual emphasis on Pro for the S-limg and portability, size and zoom for the M43 lineup.
  15. Interesting interview. "High speed USB SSD storage in M.2 format has a small footprint. Why doesn’t Panasonic make a detachable battery grip for RAW recording containing an M.2 slot? And would this be classed as “external” recording or “internal” recording? Is this different classification a problem for patents?" I couldn't agree more. Though his response suggested that he didnt get the RED Patent refence, and also didn't wanna give RAW via HDMI/USB-C on the GH Range(?). Do any of the GH/M43 cameras have external RAW recording? Curiously, Panasonic doesn't seem to want to equip the GH6 much above the GH5, regardless of what the customers want. They are keen to protect the S-line, and seem to want to go to great lengths to handicap the GH6 just that little bit. Though he did mention a much sturdier codec ("high editing tolerance that can meet the demands of various clients"). I guess, they may stick to a sturdier (?) version of the 10-bit 4-2-2 codec for now (a good ProRed alternative?). RAW will either be completely missed or may come much later with a paid firmware update (?).
  16. More like 16.6 stops (divide by 6.02) at SNR of 1. So about 14+(more like 14.6) stops. Great, regardless, and close to Alexa territory. The low ISO indicates that the sensor isn't meant for ILCs, but rather for cinema cameras(?).
  17. The issue with AF, apart from accuracy is the lack of instructions on who/what, and how to follow (speed, stationary or motion, transition style etc). I believe cinema cameras will solve this and autofocus for cinema cameras soon. And it's going to be Arri. Unless Panasonic gets both PDAF as well as the exact manner of finely programmable) instruction options.
  18. That's Dual Pixel autofocus. If its true, its Huge
  19. I love this one. Thanks for sharing it.
  20. Wouldn't the Sony be suddenly much cleaner at ISO 12800, so it may be a good idea to shoot it at 12800 and use an ND perhaps? Or is is it that most ISO levels in between the dual native ISOs are all noisy? Plus the Sony also has that famous Sony colour (or a version of it). Would love to see a comparison between the Sony, along with Canon (R6) and Panasonic (S5), at all ISOs from 320 to 25600, perhaps.
  21. From Panasonic's Official Press Release: "Providing 4:2:2 10-bit DCI 4K/60p recording capability, the LUMIX GH6 achieves unlimited video recording when the camera is used under the certified operating temperature. It is reliable enough to record continuous footage for a desired duration. It also provides a 10-bit 4K 120p High Frame Rate (HFR) and Variable Frame Rate (VFR) for high resolution slow/quick motion video. Moreover, the GH6 records 10-bit 5.7K 60p video by taking full advantage of the newly developed Micro Four Thirds sensor." I shared the photos of literature of the new 20MP M43 sensor of Sony (IMX472) because I suspect the GH6 will have equally quick readout speed or one that is extremely similar, even if the resolution different is 4-6MP. Which is about Double of the GH5, being 12-bit Full Res at 120fps. I am guessing the GH6's sensor will have a similar 12-bit 120fps at 4k, but Panasonic will limit the bit depth to 10-bit, either to protect the S1H and EVA, or because of the absurd Red's patent for Internal RAW recording. If its the 2nd, Panasonic should Create a miniature the Yagh module, with a 1Tb SSD, 5G antenna and an SoC to create lossless compressed RAW. I am very curious to know whether the GH6 will have higher dynamic range and better highlight handling and noise pattern, and by how much. Apparently, the low light improvement between the GH4 and GH5 is about 1.5 stops, though the dynamic range difference is only 0.2 Stops according to DXOmark(though the GH4 is extremely noisy in most ISOs according to some users). Noise itself (at SNR of 2), may make the dynamic range difference a lot more. Maybe if the noise is a lot more controlled on the GH6, the video dynamic range should be a lot more (?) Would also love to see a Video Recorder in the GX7 size with the 20MP full Res 120fps sensor (with 10-bit video at 4k 120fps), with a multi articulating screen like on the S1H and EVF like on the GX7. With great AF and great IBIS, it could be a great camera for Vloggers and Guerilla and Emerging Budget Filmmakers. It could be a good addition to the GH6, possibly with slightly better low light capabilities.
  22. That's absolutely terrible news. He posted a very short last video, and I was trying to get his contact information. I used to love his reviews. He was brilliant and brilliantly witty. Can't imagine anyone else who was an advocate of the M43 ecosystem, like him. Panasonic and Olympus owe him a thank you note, in the least.
