I am wondering, how many people, on this forum are from India, and specifically, from Mumbai. I feel like the only specimen, of my species, here ... :P I asked, cause, we could exchange information on dealers, lighting, equipment etc etc, and maybe, even discuss films and media, over a cup of coffee, or something.

I wish Panasonic would have one like this, for the GH2, as well. It would be lovely, to be able to control it, through an external wire, on your Tablet. Or maybe, they could just add a wireless remote. hmmmm .... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.panasonic.lumix_link.activity&hl=en https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/panasonic-lumix-link/id456228089?mt=8https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/panasonic-lumix-link/id456228089?mt=8

Its not a review, he's merely reading out from the manual. Thought, I like the fact, that, they have made a short, out of it. Interesting concept (I saw it, in an AD for plywood, before) .

Thanks for the reply, Nigel. I asked, cause I had read a few unflattering reports about wi-fi Data Cards. hmmm ...
-
Has anyone used a wi-fi SD card? What brand? How was the experience, and how good was the file transfer speed? Also, were there any features, apart from the file transfer, available?
-
Heyyyy !!! Congrats. Please, ONLY shoot at 2.7k. And, then down-res it to 1080. Also, I would love to see the 4k on the GoPro. Gimmick or no gimmick.
-
I found this, and thought, that, it would make a killer companion, for the GoPro 3 Hero Black Edition. And, the price seems decent too, at $679. It does have some interesting features, as well (Failsafe & auto go home/landing, 10-15 mins of flight time, low voltage protection/ auto landing on low battery, 300 metre remote response distance etc). It apparently has Free Global Shipping too (this sounds suspicious ... hmmmm) https://dslrpros.com/Products/tabid/94/CategoryID/58/List/0/catpageindex/2/Level/a/ProductID/68/language/en-US/Default.aspx

The one, I mentioned, is FAR better than Light Panels costing almost Twice as much, is much lighter, brighter, and is perfect for various kinds of mounting. Also, I am assuming, that there are quite a few battery options. If the NP-F970 Sony battery, is compatible with it, you could get 12 hrs of battery life. There are cheaper battery options too (NP-F550, which retails for $19). Trust me, you won't have to bother with other brands. This one is Really bright.

This is 1 of the best lights I've seen. For the price, the size, the output, and the fact, that it can be both camera mounted (ring light, around the lens), as well as used otherwise. Also, its extremely bright. And, for $199, its a Steal. http://www.fvlighting.com/store/lighting/led/r300.html?acc=c81e728d9d4c2f636f067f89cc14862c And, yes, its Very Dimmable (almost down to glow-worm/ firefly brightness) :P

The Mark iii resolves more lines, and has almost no moire or aliasing. Why would you prefer the Mark ii, over it. Especially, if you are a post production editor.

The 14-42 lens costs $50-100 and the 14-140 about $500-600, new. A second hand GH2 should, fetch you about $200. Though, I think, you should keep the 14-140 lens. Its not fast (rather, its quite slow). But, it has a superb range (28mm-280mm equivalent). And, its a pretty good quality lens.
well maybe, didnt think of it. I'm on the road with laptop. Still I think WB should be the same if u want accurate comparison, no?
I Agree, that the video should have been whitebalanced to get exact perspective. But, I am saying, that, if you put that aside, you will realise a noticeable improvement in video resolution and detail. And, considering, that, it is the GH2, that, it is beating, its a Big Deal
In that ISO test video, you can see a lot more detail and less compression noise with the GH3. The tree branches are more defined. But I'd like to know how a hacked GH2 would compare. I know it'll be close, but I do agree with the colors too. GH2 is too clinical and that make sense with the green hue. I think the GH3 going towards magenta is good, comes close to what Canon does which I like a lot. I wish they would do a test with people. I think Philip Bloom did an ISO test in a bar for the D800 or D4? That was a great test to see how skin tones look at insane ISOs. In any case, good video and I look forward to the GH3 soon!
I think, maybe the GH3 pushes 4-2-0, as far as it can go. I am guessing, that, this is pretty close to 4-2-2.
^^You can see more details because from the screenshot posted in the link GH3 is brighter maybe due to magenta. To me noise looks the same. To compare cameras ISOs this guy should wb it properly imho. It's not a good ISO test when u set it to auto a let the camera do the magic.
Tom, you need a New monitor. I am guessing, that, you cannot notice the level of detail, either because your monitor's resolution isn't too much, or (which is more likely) you need glasses, and, you are not aware of it. Please look at the window grills, and the curtains, and the details on the trees and leaves.
I don't agree. Highest usable ISO is 3200. What other DSLRs do better for 2012? Only two spring to mind - 5D Mark III and 1D X. Both a LOT more expensive than the GH3. And in low light you need to stop the lens right down on those if you want manageable focus. Needing more than ISO 1600 or 3200 at F0.95 in low light is rare. As for tight spaces, I assume you're talking about shooting actors with the camera rammed up their noses. For that you will indeed be better off with a 50mm on a 5D Mark III rather than 50mm on the GH2. Oh I forgot - maybe use a 25mm!??
I saw this video on Vimeo the day before, and I was quite impressed, with the detail, in the GH3, at ISO 1600 and 3200. Also, the GH2 had far too much noise, at ISO 3200. Also, that famous green tinge, was not there, anymore. Incidentally, this guy has shot this test video, at f2.0, on the 20mm f1.7 panny lens. These are the urls: (The Vimeo Video) http://vimeo.com/54325211 (this guy's own blog) http://www.hybridcams.fr/2012/11/27/panasonic-lumix-gh3-le-test/ ISO Testing: At 1600 (GH3) http://www.hybridcams.fr/wp-content/uploads/1600%20ISO_GH3.jpg (GH2) http://www.hybridcams.fr/wp-content/uploads/1600%20ISO_GH2.jpg At 3200 (GH3) http://www.hybridcams.fr/wp-content/uploads/3200%20ISO_GH3.jpg (GH2) http://www.hybridcams.fr/wp-content/uploads/3200%20ISO_GH2.jpg One thing, though, I noticed, is, that, that, the colours in (AutoWhiteBalance) the GH3 leans towards magenta, and the GH2, towards green. Also, that strange flare, in very high contrast areas, still exists. You can check the windows and street lights, for this, in the video.
https://www.youtube....h?v=C_k1MS80SKk
This guy claims, they are also planning on manufacturing $600-800 kindda lenses, for $125 (1:20). Has he lost the plot? I would have guessed this to be on the lines of Hans Christian Andersen's famous fairytale/ short story "the Emperor's New Clothes" or a scam of the magnitude of one by Victor Lustig. But, apparently they showed their first short film, shot, on the bolex @ Cannes. Also, they have a lotta media coverage. Why would they go to all those lengths, if they were planning on escaping. I am, though, curious to know, what the terms of the Kickstarter campaign were/ are, and what kind of advance the first 100 buyers paid.

Andrew, damn neat video. I loved the different kinds of bokehs. Also, loved the last shot, when the train gets out of the station, right into the tunnel/ darkness. I loved the image coming out of the GH3. I wished you had shot the entire video in anamorphic. Also, the B&W is pretty neat. Did you shoot it right out of the camera, or shoot colour and then convert it to B&W? What was the B&W setting?

Panasonic GH3 real-world test (pre-production firmware)
sanveer replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Hey, I quite like the video, that comes out of the GH3. Its damn neat. -
You could try the GH2 (with the 14-42 lens) on Amazon. There was an amazing Black Friday deal, om Amazon, where the GH2 + the 14-42 lens was for $499. I am guessing, it's gone now. Though the same kit, is still at a decent $749 at Both B&H and Amazon (and around the same price, at other places, too).
-
Dude, that would be great. Go check it. I am sure, its great.

I believe some people already have the GH3, in their hands (those must the guys who pre-ordered). It is, apparently, supposed to hit stores, by this Monday. I am guessing, that, by Monday evening, there will be a Lot of videos, from the GH3, doing the rounds, I am sure the video quality is almost the exactly the same, as recent videos, which, btw, is pretty good. I am, actually, curious to know the quality of the plug-in mic, the wi-fi speed and app, and the other extras.

Hi Andrew, I have been watching video online, of shootouts between the GoPro Hero 3 Black edition and the Canon 5D Mark ii. I have noticed, that the GoPro, seems to resolve a noticeably more detail, that the Mark ii. Could you do a test (like the "EOSHD Blackmagic Cinema Camera Shootout "), with the GoPro at 2.7k and the 5D ii and 5D iii. I am sure, the 5D would kill the GoPro, in low light. But, in all other situations, the GoPro seems to be an amazing cam. Thanks in advance ;)

Great GoPro3Black Edition video, comparing it, to the former 2 GoPros. The improvement seems to be very good. Though, in low light, I notice the contrast has been increased, to keep the noise low (something Andrew did too, in one of his GH2 videos, if I am not wrong). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yZvPBBHAuiI&feature=related
If you don't get a b-cam that uses the same lenses as your A-cam that could be a additional cost I'd say. NEX 5N is a cheap body but not sure what lenses you're using on the 60D. If EF then you need the Metabones adapter and it is not cheap. Why not just pick up a used 550D / T2i as the B-cam? It is the same as the 60D when it comes to the image.
I agree with Andrew. If you use any other cam, the colour, and the resolution will be an issue, too. You'll have to work a little, on that, in post.

Andrew, the BMCC weighs in at 1.7Kgs, without the lens (and the SSD Cards). It IS pretty heavy. Not comparable with mamoths like the F65, but, compared to DSLRs, and, especially the M4/3rds. The 5 inch screen was a gr8 idea, though.

Insane shit dude. If they turn this into the GH3 form factor, we would have to start writing obituaries for Canon, Sony and Nikon (maybe even RED) :P
