Well, lets just say, that the MFT is at a strange stage, in its life. It is Definitely an improvement on the whole SLR bit, where the vibration and noise, downscaling of image for video and not to mention the movement of the mirror, poses some serious limitations. At the same time, due to many reasons (including floods, the economic slump, competition with higher segment cameras manufactured by Sony and Panasonic, the multi-million dollar scam(s) @ Olympus, no agreement between standards in the MFT and FT manufacturers i.e. Olympus and Panasonic etc), the MFT movement, has been slowed down, strangely, and inconsistently. Having said that, the MFT/ mirrorless camera, is the future of camera technology, especially, considering, that, it can overcome many restrictions (including shutter speed, noise, vibrations, etc etc). The fact is, obviously, that these haven't been explored too much by the Mirrorless camera manufacturers. Also, sensor technology and codec, has to really develop, and right now, the whole bayer pattern codec thing, has to improve. It is a 70s thing, and it has a lot of scope, for improvement (like the 4 colours that Kodak and Sony, recently, introduced in its Viewfinders, to make them brighter). Also,sensor technology really has to improve too, and Sony and Panasonic, and on the right path, especially, with the back-illuminated sensors (Sony has started making many versions of these). Panasonic, right now is struggling to position technology, both hardware and software, between the consumer, pro-sumer and very-highend consumer levels. Once it decides on that, and once it and Sony decide on the perfect codec, the mirrorless movement will gain full throttle. The GH2 and other MFT cameras feel plastiky, because they are meant to (they weren't meant to be weather sealed). That is something Panasonic is, rumoured to have worked on, for the GH3. Photokina, should, hopefully, put a lot of things, to rest.

I think Philip (Bloom) just gave Nigelbb a mild heart attack (or a severe one) ... :P Philip, I felt, that even though, your review of the BMCC was technically interesting, it was a little unfair. I feel, it has helped break the slow pace, of unimaginative camera building, and the slow pace of technological developments, that have been cause by the cartel effect of the big camera makers (Canon, Sony, Arri etc). Even though the BMCC is an over-weight, non-weather sealed, behemoth, and the tranfer methods, data size and speed will be a serious headache (apart from the fixed battery), it still is a very worthy effort, especially considering the price, the image quality, and that, BMCC is one of the last people at the HD party. Its next camera, when it comes, will consider all the feedback (obviously including yours), but, for now, this IS a worthy competitor, to everyone around. Barring none.

The new Panasonic SuperZoom, the FZ 200, shares the new Venus Engine 7 FHD processor (with the expected GH3). Its autofocus is insanely fast, and the colour in video, is pretty interesting, as well. Also, picture profile will be Much Flatter. I wish they had a good backlit sensor. It would have been great for low light (maybe even dynamic range) Its too late, though, to think of all that ... Though, I expect Still Picture Quality, to still, be pretty lousy.

Try the Slik 700. Its a heavy, and sturdy tripod, for about $100. Its a little difficult to get, but, I believe its a gr8 tripod.

Well, I guess there is No Possible Way, to have the same setting for all the cameras, and say, that, one performs better than the other. The thought, itself, is ludicrous. Also, the same applies, for lighting. For many different reasons. Some cameras have greener (or yellow) shades (hues), and others red. Also, for the same ISO setting, different cameras will show different levels of brightness. Apart from this, the GH2 has a very peculiar characteristic. Very often, you have to switch it on at Higher ISOs and Gradually, lower it to the required ISO, or avoid certain ISO jumps, from certain ISO settings. otherwise it cause noise and some peculiar version of banding. Its some kindda ISO Bug, which is very obvious, sometimes, and not so obvious, at other moments. Lighting, or otherwise. If that were the case, all the cameras should have shot the Same video, in the same Format, at the Same Bit Rate, at the same ISO, using exactly the same lenses. Among everything else being constant. Also, people stating that setting up the GH2 takes long, and is a tedious process, are obviously into the whole studio paraphernalia, where there carry huge Rails, and large Tripods, with huge screens to check everything, and lotsa equipment, and make the humble GH2 look like a bazooka, good enough to bring down an entire city. They obviously have no idea about Indie Film shooting, or using modern day DSLRs, the way they are meant to be. Having said this, I guess, its every filmmakers duty (whether a DoP, Director or Gaffer), to ensure, that every camera, is allowed to bring out the best results, keeping the Production Limitations in Mind. Imagine using these monstrous sized extras on a GH2, to shoot a film like the Primer or some other Microbudget Indie.It would draw so much unnecessary attention towards itself, apart from the headache of extra crew, extra equipment etc etc. I guess, taking resolutions to 4k and 5k and 6k, is making film-making more of a technological spoof, and less of film-making. Maybe, much like the 48fps, that Peter Jackson came up with. And, Ironically, its the same people who whine about Panasonic and other new age (Miroorless) lenses being too sharp. Well, after Publishing (web-casting, actually), the 1st 2 Parts of the Zacuto shootout, Zacuto was issued stern warnings, that all the big camera makes (Arri, Sony, Canon etc), would boycott them, and prevent them from manufacturing accessories for their (high end) products. To save face (and profits), Zacuto does a volte face, and comes up with a Ridiculous Balance Sheet for each camera, and also, similar condition shooting. Whereas the 1st Two Parts should to be viewed as Empirical Studies conducted, and the 3rd part should be viewed as jokes, to lighten up the mood. P.S. I am guessing Francis Ford Capolla will be retiring from Hollywood and Filmmaking. Very Soon.

I am usually only vary, with Higher End Chinese stuff. Since, I can usually just get rid of the cheaper stuff, if it doesn't work.

I was checking products of "[url="http://www.szlaing.com/"]http://www.szlaing.com/[/url]", and I realised, that, their prices are similar to Glidecam, which, they have obviously ripped off. Maybe, they were the manufacturers for them. I guess, all US manufacturers (as well as manufacturers from other countries), who outsource their production to China, have to suffer the inevitable ignominy of having their products duplicated in China, and attempted to be sold worldwide. Also, since the original product is manufactured in China, no real judgment on quality, can really be made. Btw, shipping is pretty expensive on this one.

The FS100 shoots at 24Mbps. I don't think its the bitrate, as much as the kind of compression, and the codec for lower end cameras, which,somehow removes details, for same size sensors. Though, for the GH2, people have been able to get over the problem, and will be able to do so, for almost all cameras (presumably), by increasing the bitrate and tweaking a little bit of the settings, i am sure, there must be some way to keep the bitrate low, and still maintain enormous details and DR.

Hahaha ... So true. With this kind of card, he is sure to have everything. Also, if the camera is even 50% as well weather-sealed as the Card, then, one can safely let it fall to the bottom of the ocean, and not worry about losing anything.

I would not have believed this, till i saw it. For everyone wondering what the whole fuss about over-priced, too soft, fast primes was, this may be the answer you were looking for. Apparently, Mitakon has been manufacturing the lenses for SLR Magic, and that is perhaps, where they got the precise know-how from. SLR Magic produces the 50mm f.95 (actually T.95), which is Much Sharper than the Voigtlander 25mm f.95. The only issues it had, during tests, was the strong purple fringing (chromatic aberration). Otherwise, it was almost as sharp as the Leica, at a fraction of the cost. While the SLR Magic retails for US$ 1100, for the 50mm f.95, the Mitakon 35mm f.95 retails for around 600 Euros (approx 736 US$). Panasonic are seriously weather-sealing their cameras. In every way possible. Now whether he GH3 is the beneficiary of such kind of weather-sealing, or some later model, that, will soon be seen. I guess, the only thing turning the tables, for the GH3, will be economics. Since most Japanese electronics majors aren't doing too well, partly because of the Thailand Floods, and partly due to to the over-whelming growth of Samsung, Apple (and LG, to an extent), it would be in their best interest to try and make a DSLR (DSLM actually), which outsells every other camera on the planet, meant for shooting serious Full HD. The GH2 already does that, without blinking so much a an eyelash, but, then, everyone who dismissed the GH2, or owns one, or wants to own one, of that pedigree, will look for the GH3, to do it. If Panasonic doesn't make Drastically better features on an already brilliant video DSLR, then it will be shooting itself, in the foot. But, this seems Very unlikely, if the new models of Panasonic, are anything to go by. I am guessing the GH3 will be quite an improvement. The only question, may be, how much.

I must admit, that, I am a little disappointing, that, the iPhone 4S beats the PureView 808, at video. Does Filmic Pro increase the bit rate, as well as improve the video quality, on the iphone?

If the pics, in the Comparison between various cameras, with the Panasonic are believable, then, the RX100 outperforms even the Canon GX1, though ONLY at lower ISOs. I read this this, a few days back. These are very important accessories, for some wanting to seriously shoot on the RX100. Especially for film.

Andrew, may I request you, to shoot the video, together with an iPhone, if you could, so that a face-off/ shoot-out, maybe the purpose of testing the video (and sound) quality. That way, we could judge it, in comparison with an iPhone, instead of attempting to use a DSLR as a yardstick Thanks
