  1. By the time 4K actually becomes a mainstream delivery format it could be 5+ years from now. Even "HD" brodcast in the States is often 1080i or 720p.  I think everyone is jumping the gun on the 4K for future proofing.   Using 4K to re-frame, track, zoom, that makes sense. But it's more of a luxury, less a necessity at this point.
  2.     So you need a beast machine to tap the true potential of the camera, what's wrong with that? I want to retain the option, that's all.  So I think I'm going to stick with the BMCC.
  3.   But i fear my eyes will see it, when i try to bring out shadow detail that has been thrown away!   There is a reason why .CR2 files (which use actual loss less compression) are so big for stills images...
  4. I think this is a brilliant move by Black Magic. The are essentially selling camera futures options right now. Some people will drop their pre-order of the BMCC to order the BMPC, this will loosen the immediate supply constraints.    So even if I have no faith in Black Magic's supply chain, i think it was a good move to announce now.   I wonder if a third party has made an investment that we haven't seen here?  That would be a good reason to expect something drastic might change with their supply chain.
  5.   Please correct me if I'm wrong.   If you record a format, then compress it, and it looks the exact same after playback, then it is "visually loss-less".   If you record a format, then compress it, and you lose no information whatsoever (including detail that can't be seen upon native playback) then you have a true loss-less format.    It sounds like the compressed Raw is going to throw away some information.
  6.     Remember, the form was chosen to be compatible with existing DSLR rigs.  BMC knows what they are doing...stealing market share.
  7.   Not at the compression ratio they are discussing for the 4K cam.  That would be impossible.
  8. Loss-less for viewing is very different that loss-less for editing.
  9. Over on Blackmagicforum, they are discussing the negative implications of the global shutter on DR.  Also, the hypothetical sensor might only support 10bit.  There also might be no version of uncompressed RAW on-board the new camera.   Of course all of this is up in the air, but there might be some pretty big "catches" to this whole deal.
  10.   I don't think so. It's still produces the best footage of any camera under $10K. v2 might not be out for over a year.  When does the s35 ship?
  11.     I do not hate the Movi, not by a long shot. I think it's really, really cool.  I just don't like the way it was presented. But maybe i'm just sentimental for the ol 5D2, and the yesterdays of progress at Canon.   Sorry for being so caustic.      The revolution will not be televised!   http://vimeo.com/62959319
  12.       You mean the one that was poorly focussed and poorly tracked @:40? You could do that with a glidecam, its a smaller setup than the Movi.
  13.     I have nothing wrong with advertising per se, but I do have a problem with false advertising.  Hyping it as a game changer on par with the 5D2 is false advertising.
  14.   Except that a better lens pretty much strictly dominates an inferior lens. Whereas for 95% of shots, a $300 tripod will look as good or better than the results i get from using this.  And in 80% the 5% of cases where it doesn't, my $500 glidecam will look just as good.   It's a gadget. It isn't even new tech.  Furthermore, this whole thing has been a publicity stunt, so I'm inclined to shit-talk it until further notice.
  15. Maybe its new type of beef jerky?  Or a new MacPro?   If it ends up being a stabilizer i'm going to call bullshit. Not everyone uses stuff like that, and there are cheep solutions abound.
  16.   I mean clown in a good way.  I may think his style is crazy, but he certainly has skill.
  17. From the Phantom HD.   http://vimeopro.com/laforet/laforetvisuals/video/17355509
  18. Laforet is a clown. I bet he discovered what a Macro lens is for the fist time!   But i bet it is the stabilizer. The man loves his helicopters.

  20. A light? Monitor?   It'd be hard to imagine an adapter that's expensive enough to be less "affordable" than the 5D2.
  21.   I think the endurance of any content is inversely proportional to it's competition. That's why expect that in the future art will be less enduring.
