  1. My biggest concern is that we won't even see this thing available until 2014. I really like the Kineraw s35 footage, but I'm starting to have serious doubts about these guys making it to market with these things.
  2.   The only thing i enjoyed about Avatar was the 3D.  At least it was novel (at the time).  The rest of the movie, plot, acting, script was terrible.    As far as the hobbit goes, i think i'd want to kill myself after seeing a second time no matter what format it was in.   I really think these are the type of movies you don't want 3D for: fast action and lots of camera movements. It like forcing your audience to go through a car accident over and over again. I think 3D works best with slower shots (or static), and more realistic perspectives.  I actually think it would work really well with your style, Andrew.     Rich, you're Kindle bashing is retarded. I don't know where to begin to explain to you how much easier(and cleaner) it makes my life. I read a ton of books and research papers.  Paper is no longer practical for me.
  3. So you're saying you thought The Hobbit in 2D was a great movie?
  4. I promise you, one day, things that are not in 3D will be considered novelty.  Like shooting "Good Night and Good Luck" in BW, just for the the fun of it.     And just because there have been a bunch of crappy movies made in 3D, doesn't mean 3D sucks. Tell me something. Have any of you seem a movie in 3D and thought, " damn, if only if it were not for the 3D, this would have been an excellent movie".     In other words, don't confuse correlation with causality. And don't dismiss a particular artist's tool just because you don't understand how it might be used effectively.
  5.     For the same reason, we'll probably see the new 5D3 firmware(or 5DC) about the time BMC starts producing in volume.
  6.   That's a silly thing to say. I think a better way to put it, is that 3D will suck until someone uses it effectively for an artistic purpose.
  7. If you think 3D is gone forever you're crazy. When it improves enough, and when people learn how to use it, it will be back for good.
  8.  Microsoft and HP don't belong in the same sentence with RIM. Microsoft is still the worlds #1 office OS.    My biggest criticism of Canon is that their marketing strategy(as late) has been piss poor. If they were making tons of cash, gaining market share, and had a rising stock price, who could blame them? But that isn't the case. It's clear that heads need to roll at Canon.   Did you know it's a family company?
  9.   A wise man once said, "They're not gonna kill shit, they're not gonna do shit. What can they do? They're a bunch of fuckin' amateurs"   FU Canon
  10. Isn't it a one click- and windows 8 becomes the windows 7 interface?
  11.   First and foremost, it does a good job telling the entire story in 77mins.
  12. As for the most important spec, does it come with a cool NASA logo?
  13. The full frame video looks exactly like the 5D3.
  14. "s35 crop mode appears to be true 1080p with no downscaling. 1Dx wont do this.       If this is true, then I concede the point. Thanks for the Intel.     Also, if someone can write a script to efficiently downscale the 4k 4:2:2 to 1080p, we might be in business. we can use the down sample to increase the bit depth too, right?
  15.   More like $5K gets me 4k and c-log. The 1DX already comes with crappy "1080p" 4:2:0 and it only costs $6700.
  16. I fuckin hate this camera. $12K, and it only records 1080 in 4:2:0 on board.  You have to be shitting me.
  17. More video, Moire problems.   http://fstoppers.com/canon-6d-showing-hideous-moire-problems-in-video
  18. Do you think we see this sensor anytime this year?
  19.   I don't think they're a rip off, but they are designed for the professional market. If i want to run STATA with more than 64GB of RAM, my only choice is a Xeon based system.  It's basically just companies using price discrimination: the demand curve for people who need more than 64GB of ram looks pretty different than the demand curve for everyone else.  Apple is not special in this regard. Pretty much all the big boys: Dell, HP, and Apple offer comparably priced workstations. In fact, i'd argue that the "Apple premium" paid for Apple workstations is less than for their laptop/desktops.
  20.   What are the specs?   I was thinking of going for :   i7-3820 GTX 690 4GB 32GB ram   @$2500   + Dell ultra-sharp 27'
  21. ^ Shooting in Raw isn't practical for everyone's workflow.  If you are making a documentary and you need to record hours of footage at a time, the BMC loses a lot of it's advantages over something like a c100 which is bundled with a bunch of features that make your life a lot easier.    But if Raw makes sense in your workflow, i think it's a huge advantage in terms of achieving a really polished and cinematic look.
  22. Although Xeon processors have a bigger cache, which makes them faster at some tasks, their biggest advantage is that they allow for more ram. But these days I think 32GB of RAM is plenty for editing video.
  23. I thought the whole reason to be on Mac was to avoid the "hassle" of windows.  This hackintosh stuff all sounds like a big hassle. Just suck it up and come back to windows.
  24. Looks like Apple is going to acquire some Kodak digital imaging patents. It's probably just for their phones, but you never know. It'd be interesting to see them enter the digital cinema market. Or they could acquire Black Magic, and straighten out their supply chain issues. You gotta figure BM is feeling overwhelmed right now.
