So why does everyone use it? The line i always hear is that the human eye is more sensative to green than red or blue. But is that true for everyone? What is the actual magnitude, and just how well documented is it? Are there any notable exceptions(in terms of cameras)?

Kineraw S35 priced to kill - 2K 12bit Raw (from 4K sensor) for $6K
HurtinMinorKey replied to Andrew Reid's topic in Cameras
Full frame versus tiny frame, higher bit rates, down sampling. It also wins the best preview clip award. -

I really think this could be the one. -
Sony full frame video cameras coming with universal lens mount

Big sensors jus't arn't enough. You need to downsample. I think it's what makes the c300 stand out. -
If any of you guys are ever in downtown SF, you should stop by the pacific energy center. They have a great exhibit there that shows a variety of different types of light sources and their effect on color. Its free to all.

Some of the Arial shots in Top Gun are strait-up ridiculously awesome. He also directed True Romance, which is a classic.
Part 3 clearly has shown GH2 is nowhere even close to any video camera. It performs exactly like a $700 m4/3 camera.
The first statement is proven false by the mere fact that we are even having this discussion. The second statement is trivial. Of course it performs like a 700$ m3/4 camera; it IS a 700$ m4/3 camera. But the point is, you need to pay 1000s more to get something that will perform as good under most circumstances, and 10,000s more for something that performs better.
That's what you expect from fanboys Their favorite camera didn't do well? Time to find why the test is flawed. Notice no one tried to find flaws in part 2 when they were happy with their camera's performance.
My favorite camera there is the C-300, so ... Anyway, Go through the older threads. You won't find Andrew lauding the setup of parts 1 and 2. He was glad that the gh2 was getting some recognition, but he wasn't praising the objectivity of their test.

In theory, A codec like this will take more processing power to implement. Therefore, I doubt it will be onboard a dslr any time soon. It'll mostly be for playback.

I'll admit, watching "artists" try to be scientists is entertaining.

^bro, I'm neutral in this fight. But I have to say, Zacuto totally jumped the shark in the final episode. watching it was a waste of time, so I approve of the editorial decision.

Looks to me like the 1d-X does a better job with color than the 5d3, but my opinion is based on a painfully small sample size. What did you guys think of this? http://vimeo.com/40379197

The F65 is so awesome, it doesn't even need to be on set to get the shot! Total garbage, from beginning to end. Zacuto....
It is still the licensing issue which is delaying the camera rather than any manufacturing problem.
Which in theory could delay it indefinately. The fact that it isn't being dealt with imediately is not a good sign. In other words, the parties may be worlds apart on the licensing fee. I see no other reason to delay a product release for a licensing fee.
[background=rgb(255, 255, 255)]"...cameras are now leaving the production facility and first deliveries would have commenced, however Blackmagic Design are currently waiting for a third party license to be issued before deliveries can legally start."[/background]
If that's true, then that third party has quite a bit of bargaining power. My guess is that a team of lawyers from Canon and Sony showed up at the last second and said “here are 397 patents that you are infringing upon with the production of this product. Here’s our number, have a nice day!â€

Then there is that whole, probably built by slave labor thing..... It's not always the case, but it often is. So F China.
the price is good, however, how many owners would graduate to cinema. 99% of owners will have their vid compressed on TV or youtube, defeating the purpose of uncompressed vid, although I've been told result isn't bad. Getting Da Vinci Licence is the deal maker for some
The purpose of the uncompressed vid is for the sake of editing, post, and the best aquisition possible. Once all that is done, a compressed interframe codec is always the way to go for output. Most Blu-Ray uses AVCHD and a bit rate that's significantly lower then what you get out of the 5D3, but there is a reason "No Country for Old Men" on blu-ray looks 100 times better than anything you'd ever see off a 5D using intra-frame compression. In other words, a better acquisition format will still look better once it's compressed intelligently.
But the Mkiii was just released so it will be 2-3 years before Canon responds. A lot of people may decide not to wait especially when there is no guarantee that Canon will respond.
In response to getting their pants pulled down by Sony and Pani, maybe Canon will magically improve the video on the 5D3 with a firmware upgrade. That would be hillarious.
PS. I'm still thinking about BM, Kineraw, the 1DC and the hack for cameras.
Speaking of the Kineraw, so far it seems to be the most impressive. That last clip of the s-35 was fricking ridiculously good. I guess it's not a fair comparison because it's suposed to be twice as expensive as the BMC. But the detail, and the highlight rolloffs from that beast were sick.
Fair enough, but man, if someone jumped on my work like that!
You'd what? Take it like a man? Be thankful that someone was paying attention? Moebius, Black swan was shot on 16mm Arriflex, 5D, and 7D. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0947798/technical I think they blow the 16mm up to 35mm before they transfer to digital.
Maybe you can go to the actual blog posting I wrote about this where I explain the production methodology and that the Steadicam shots are terrible and WHY I included them. http://johnbrawley.w...camera-footage/ Thanks for sharing your views.
Hey, there you are context! This is actually linked as a souce at the end of Andrew's blurb, unfortunately i'm retarded and missed it. Everyone feel free to gather around and kick me in the nutesack.
