1.
if they can improve the resolution it will be a deal breaker. I doubt Canon was so stupid to limit the resolution via software though
It's actually a subtle way to differentiate products. Pay a lot less for virtually the same capability(as a more expensive product), but loose your warranty.  So maybe Canon isn't that stupid after all.
i like Jeff Cronenweth style low key and lot of scenes light with practical lights... but his best work is Fight Club ...he is not DP who can work with digital ...he and David Fincher should back to shoot with on film...
I think he's awesome, and clearly Fight Club looks the best. But the social Network looked good too.  I think the choice of camera has been more of Fincher's choice, because he likes to shoot 100 takes of everything. I wouldn't be surprised if Jeff is dying to go back to film.
  3.
But the F65 comes the closest to a true 4K sensor -  20,000,000 photosites.  The Alexa ARRI has 7,462,400 photosites The Red EPIC has 13,824,000 photosites
Great post! Where did you get this info? Also, when they claim EPIC is 12-bit, does that mean that each photosite carries 12 bits of info?
  4.
this is amateur talk.  how can you say any of this?  sounds like a 14 year old just joining film school and not understanding film theory or the chemical aesthetics of film...
So you think that David Fincher is an amateur? That being said, if we compare the same director (and same DP) using different camera's, I think you'd have to agree that Fight Club(Film) looked better than either The Social Network or Girl With the Dragon Tattoo (RED EPIC). I think TGWTDT highlights some of RED's biggest weaknesses. Low light shooting, and painful post-production. The movie was just too long, and it almost looks like they didn't pay attention to the look as much as they did in the Social Network, which looked very good for a digital movie.
  5. ^I went to see it solely for the 3d. I was impressed. The fact that the rest of the movie was laughably bad didn't prevent my enjoyment, indeed it may have enhanced it. The movie does teach us all a valuable lesson: even though the white guys are evil, foreign cultures are powerless to stop them unless they adopt a white man as their savior.  :P ::)
  6. To be fair, I think they do add a heat conductor into the processor housing. But that sure is one expsensive heat pipe. Honestly, I bet the delay with the 1dX has more to do with making it hack-proof, than anything else.

They got Jeff Cronenweth? That's David Fincher's DP...who uses RED. That's quite the coup for Canon. I was wondering if maybe they would jump ship after The Girl with the Stupid Tattoo looked like sh*t, and this would fuel that speculation.
  8.
>:( I have not liked the new LCD Tvs that have the higher frame rates.  They make Avatar look like a Soap Opera.  Yuck!
It's probably not the TV, it's because you haven't set up your playback properly. Most of the cinema modes turn the motion smoother(which can cause this look) off, so make sure you are in a cinema mode. Also, are you using component video instead of HDMI, because this will cause interlacing, which will also make it look too smooth. I wonder if there is a chance that the techs setting up the showing might have f-ed this up at all.
  9. Do you thin there will be a 5D-C, like the 1D-C? With a digi5 it should be able to achieve at least twice the current bit-rate of the mkiii. It'd be a crime if they left this camera out of the cinema lineup. After all, the mkii started it all.
  10. The 1D-C took advantage of the 1Dx's untapped resources. Why shouldn't there be a 5D-C to take advantage of the 5D3's resources? The digi5 could handle 4:4:4 1080. If Canon doesn't do something like this soon, for under $6K, they are going to get creamed in this market.
