      I have one of those too. It forces me to use an even longer lens to avoid vignetting and is only useful for extreme close ups and macro shots. I haven't used it since I bought it.

You have to reposition the camera to focus. The Iscomorphot 8 1.5x is very easy to use (fully rack-focusable and has a minimum focus distance of about 2.5'), as long as you keep your aperture above f/5.6.

      Yes, mine is quite unusable before f/5.6. But once you put it there, it gives an unbelievable image (in my opinion). And it is rack-focusable (and focuses as close as 0.5m), which makes it the easiest, most user-friendly anamorphic that I have ever owned.

    I bought one to replace my GH2 but I am leaning towards returning it. Dynamic range appears to be quite good and I haven't seen any color banding yet. But there's just too much jello to be useful for me. Here's an example (watch for the moment when I deliberately bump the camera): http://youtu.be/GJqudomlxX8 I'm also seeing it in Macgregor's test video: http://youtu.be/kfSM7SlyVX8 I bought the camera because I was excited about the prospect of using my old Nikkor AI-s lenses with it, but I feel like I would have to replace them all with expensive AF-S lenses with VR in order to get a steady shot with this camera. I'm disappointed. I really wanted this to be the one! UPDATE: I tried the same test again but I switched positions so that the GH2 was on top: http://youtu.be/q5f58aeFYRU This basically nullifies the conclusion from my last test video. The problem was with my test, not the camera. The D5200 is still in the running. Sorry if I caused any confusion.

    Have your friend shine a flashlight at the anamorphic. Use the flares to make sure that your lens is properly aligned.

    Thanks, guys. I had fun doing this one.     I think that a big part of what many of us love about the "anamorphic look" is not from the lens, but from the diopters. They can be a challenge to work with but they do add a unique-looking bokeh that is not achievable by manipulating the aperture alone.   My model teaches photography for a living, so she's not afraid to be in front of a camera. I think that she's got a great face for cinema too. Maybe I'll see if I can write a short around a character that she could play.     It's Rich's amazing minimum focus mod. I can now focus wide open as close as 2'10" before the front element screws right off. It makes me nervous to do this so I usually limit myself to 3'6" or so. But still, it breathed new life into this lens for me.     I completely agree with you. Shallow DOF is overused and lately I haven't been using it as much. Actually, of everything that I shot here, I think that the Iscomorphot 8 1.5x at f/5.6 is my favorite look. Combined with FilmConvert, I'm getting a picture that I can't believe came out of a digital camera.

    I am pretty excited about this setting as well. With any luck I'll be able to test it against a D5200 this week.   I don't usually care much for cats. But some little creature (real or imaginary) is fortunate to be on the other side of the glass. That was a chuckle.       Some are saying that installing "Moon" is like getting a new camera. I wouldn't go that far, but it's the first setting that I have really liked.     Since I have all three at the moment, I decided to make a test for my fellow anamorphic enthusiasts:    http://vimeo.com/60401188   Not exactly scientific, but I tried to be methodical. The Iscorama is sharp wide open, but my Iscomorphot 2x has to be closed down to f/2.8 or smaller, and the Iscomorphot 1.5x really isn't too useful before f/5.6.   They each have their own unique character. Which image do you prefer?

    Was there some insane amount of detail at 1:00 that we can't see in the final video? It didn't look like there was. But that may be the first time that I have seen rainbow moire in 5DIII footage (and, unfortunately, it's there in the D5200 as well).

    I am also running Moon Trial 3. Best hack that I have used yet. I pretty much keep it on either ISO 160 or 640, though in your test 640 is cleaner!

    Andrew, The GH2 displays color banding right out of the camera (also when imported through 5DtoRGB), before the grade has been pushed at all. So far, I haven't seen any banding in the D5200 footage. It sounds like there is banding when shooting in the flat profile, but barring that, have you seen any banding in the footage right out of the camera?

    It's an interesting idea. It might help if you reveal a little bit about your background and why we should believe that you are able to execute this project when so many others before you have failed. What qualifications do you have? What past successes have you enjoyed? And what can you show us to assure us that this is not a vaporware project?

      Thanks for posting this. Maybe someone has a definitive way of finding out whether this is true 4:2:2 or not.   What are your impressions of this camera for video?
