  1. To my eye, the image from the D5200 doesn't look as crisp. I'll be curious to see some comparisons between 400% blow ups.    Does it enable magnified focus assist when plugged into an external monitor? Coming from the GH2, that's a big one for me.
  2.   Interesting. I never came across that one and I think that it looks like it  might work. In fact, I'd go for that over the Cavision; the velcro straps won't snap like the ABS can.
  3. I had the same issue. After much searching I ended up buying this: http://www.cavision.com/rods/R15-60LS06U.htm   It worked great the first time out, but the second time I overtightened it and one of the end-pieces snapped. Cavision sent me a replacement  for free but I have yet to set it up again.
  4. Great stuff, especially the skate video. There's something really special about the look from the 8mm anamorphics.   The Lomo square fronts exhibit rainbow diffraction as well, but I've not seen it with any other lens until your example.
  5. Nikkor 85mm f/2 AI-S is my favorite spherical for anamorphic shooting with my GH2, but you'd better have a good tripod if you are going to do this.   The 85mm Non-AI is also excellent and costs much less.
  6. Something I've noticed: anamorphic bokeh has a tendency to be more oval at the edges of a frame and more true-circular near the center. Clearly, this is a result of the curvature of the glass, but what focal length / distance / diopter combination gets you consistent ovals across the frame?
  7. Very nice. As far as I know, tilt shift anamorphic is a new frontier.   I think that I have told you before that your daughter has a great face for cinema (and I mean that, not everybody does!). And the architecture of Bordeaux looks so timeless. It's a perfect combination for shooting anamorphic films. I look forward to watching your next film!
  8. I find that for any lens with a focal length less than 50mm (on Micro Four Thirds), I can operate with a shoulder rig without shake/vibration. It's really only with true handheld, shooting out of a car window, or with some kind of an improvised dolly that I miss stabilization.
  9. I think that everybody here is secretly or not-so-secretly hoping to find an anamorphic that no one else has and to make that look their own.   This certainly looks promising. Congratulations on your find!
  10. I had time for another quick test, this time with the 35mm Square Front. At infinity focus, it is a true 2x stretch. But at close focus, it's only a 1.78x stretch. And here's what's really crazy: there is a vertical stretch of 104% as well!   I will have to try this on my other Lomos to see if I get the same results.   I also discovered that my 3x3 matte box will fit in front of my 35mm without vignetting (as long as I crop it to 1.5x). I was worried that I would have to buy a new matte box and filters that would offer enough coverage -- this is very good news!
  11. Lately I have seen these go for $2400 - $2800.
  12. Sometimes focus "breathing" (i.e. shifting field of view when changing focus) can give you an odd aspect ratio. For instance, my Lomos are more like 2x focused to infinity, but more like 1.8x at close focus. If you were focused at 11.5 feet (for example), the correct aspect ratio would lie somewhere between the extremes and would not be a standard stretch factor.
  13. I have done a test with both and I can't really tell the difference. Maybe there isn't enough motion in my frame.
  14.   I think these were made for Lomo Foton-A Anamorphic zoom lenses. If it is in good condition, you might get some good money for this.
  15. Incredible flares! Are you sure that you can't buy this from your client?
  16. I'm in the same situation as you. I have some money saved up and a desire to get out of 8-bit. But after canceling my pre-order for the BlackMagic, I've realized that there is nothing on the market that can meet my needs at a price I am willing to pay right now.   That being said, NAB is not that far away so I am going to hold out.
  17. This would not be practical for my purposes, but the idea that this level of depreciation can happen in such a short amount of time suggests that everybody here will have a shot at an Alexa by 2022.
  18. Cool look! I agree, a much more interesting look than the Iscorama. I think I remember seeing this little guy up on eBay a few weeks ago. Before then, I never knew that these existed. Is the +0.2 from Alan?
  19.   Thanks. I quite like the look that I am getting from these as well. With the help of a little servicing and collimation, I think that I've got the handling figured out. The focus will always have some breathing but I actually don't mind it. Also I have figured out how to monitor in 1.5x with my SmallHD so I can crop the footage as I am importing it and it's like the 2x never was (except for that amazing stretched bokeh).   What I really need here is an MFT camera with built in ND filters like the AF100. Otherwise, I can't really take this outdoors. I'm hoping that Panasonic will announce an AF200 or some other MFT update at NAB. I'll hold off until then before investing in a 4x5.6 matte box and filters to put in front of this thing.   The hack does allow for 4:3 recording, but it's only at 30 frames per second. I'd rather just crop in post.
  20.   I don't know where you live, but I think I'd rather live there. Less strip malls, fewer curious police officers, and more things to point a camera at.
  21.   Exactly. No more screwing on and off diopters. You can just pop them on and off very quickly. The lens is already very difficult to use so this would make your life just a little easier.
  22. Thanks for sharing. Both of these look pretty good to my eye. I'll see if I have time to shoot a comparison when I get home from work today.
